Asacol has been a godsend for me. This drug has literally turned my life around. When I first got sick 5 1/2 years ago I was a mess. I lost so much weight, my doctor put me in the hospital. Thanks to this medication I have been in remission for 5 years & have thankfully not had any real flare-ups,& my colonoscopies show no evidence of disease, & considering that my entire colon is affected I would ...

Would this be the American prescription answer to New Zealand's Ibsacol? I was diagnosed by biopsy as having Collagenous Colitis. A colonoscopy last month showed 2 benign polyps & diverticulitis. I am 77 female

I was diagnosed with UC in 1998. I had two more severe flare-ups in the first three years. I have been taking three 400mg tabs four times a day the entire time and have not had any more than an occasional spotty bleed, usually after a single spicy meal or a highly stressful situation. My last colonoscopy was given high marks, doc said 'whatever you're doing, keep it up'. My initial doc said NOT to quit smoking, and I haven't. He said go heavy on the red meat, not a problem, I love it. No fresh veggies or fruit (take vitamins instead), no carbonized drinks (stir over ice or add water to kill fizz), no whole grain, no dairy. Basic steak, potatoes and white bread...and twelve Asacol every day...has kept me out of the hospital for over seven years now. Knock on wood, this routine keeps me from cramps, pain, and the E.R.Read More Read Less

I wouldn't use anything else. It's helped me immensely. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 1988 and since the drug become FDA approved, it's the only thing that has really worked for me.

I am 18 years old and I have had Ulcerative Colitis since I was 11. I've been using Asacol for a few years and it helps but I still often have flare-ups. I took Pentasa when I first got diagnosed but I like this one a lot better.

I was diagnozed with distal colitis about a year in a half ago. For the first six weeks I was on Lialda but swiched to Asacol because the Lialda made me real nausious. This medication works well. I haven't had any bleeding in six months and my stomach cramps and diarea have been greatly reduced. In the last few weeks I have noticed a lot of hair loss and I am not sure what to do about it.

This anti-inflammatory pill has worked fairly effectively for my Crohn's symptoms. As a pill taken several times daily, it has helped with abdominal pain. However, it does not help at all if your symptoms become more severe (such as with Fistulizing Crohn's Disease). It is a MUCH better alternative to Sulfasalazine, however, and worth the extra cost.
