What best describes your visit?

I have been diagnosed with DME, and I’d like to discuss treatment options.

What to Ask Your Doctor

  • Can my DME be cured?

While there's no cure, treatment can stop DME from getting worse and sometimes even reverse it.

  • What's the best treatment for DME?

Your doctor will weigh the benefits and risks of various treatments to figure out what's best for you.

  • What can I expect during treatment?

You'll want to know what happens during treatment, and how often you'll need it.

  • Are there any potential side effects of treatment?

Knowing what to expect helps you understand what’s normal and what isn’t.

  • Are there other things I can do to protect my vision?

Good diabetes control helps protect your eyes. If you're struggling with it, your medical team can provide treatment and strategies.

I am receiving treatment for DME, and I still have symptoms.

What to Ask Your Doctor

  • Will my eyesight keep getting worse?

Your outlook depends on several things, including how serious your DME is and how long you've had it. Your doctor can explain your options.

  • Is there another treatment that might help me?

There are several effective treatments for DME. Your doctor can determine whether you'd benefit from a different type.

  • Is surgery an option for me?

If other treatments don't work, your doctor may recommend an operation.

  • Are there any new treatments on the horizon?

Your doctor can discuss what other DME treatments may become available in the future.

  • What happens if I have permanent vision loss?

Your doctor can point you to resources, like vision aids and vision rehabilitation training, to help you function with reduced vision.
