Edward Hook, MD

Edward Hook, MD, is medical director of the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Program for the Jefferson County Health Department in Birmingham, Alabama, and a professor of medicine/epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is also co-director of the UAB Center for Social Medicine and STDs.

Hook received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and completed his residencies at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospital and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Hook is an associate editor of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Infection and Immunity and edits for other professional journals. He has more than 125 journal articles, two books, and 24 book chapters in publication. Hook is active in many professional societies and currently serves on the STD advisory board of the Alabama State Department of Health.
