Ambulatory patient services, also called outpatient care

Any health care you can get without staying in a hospital is ambulatory care. That includes diagnostic tests, treatments, or rehab visits.

You may get outpatient care in a:

  • Doctor’s office
  • Clinic
  • Ambulatory surgery center
  • Emergency room
  • Outpatient hospital department

These are some, but not all, types of outpatient care:

  • Blood tests
  • Biopsy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Colonoscopy
  • CT scan
  • Mammograms
  • Minor surgical procedures
  • Radiation treatments
  • Ultrasound imaging
  • X-rays

Ambulatory care is one of the essential health benefits. Those are the benefits all new health plans must cover.
