Medicare Extra Help Program

This Medicare program helps pay the costs of prescription drugs covered by Medicare for people with limited income or resources. The program helps pay for monthly premiums, yearly deductibles, and prescription copays. In 2017, drug costs for most people who qualify are no more than $3.30 for each generic and $8.25 for each brand-name covered drug.

To get this financial help, you must be able to prove certain income and resource limits. You can apply for extra help online or at your local Social Security office. You automatically qualify for Medicare Extra Help if you are on Medicaid, receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or receive help from your state to pay your Medicare Part B premium.
