Jonathan Sackner-Bernstein, MD

Jonathan Sackner Bernstein, MD, is the director of clinical research and director of the Heart Failure Prevention Program at Northshore Hospital in Long Island, N.Y. He is also an assistant professor of medicine for the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Sackner-Bernstein is an expert in the diagnosis and management of congestive heart failure. He performed early work on the use of beta-blockers in congestive heart failure and is currently investigating several new therapeutic approaches to the condition. Sackner-Bernstein enables his patients and their families to stay up-to-date on heart failure treatments and resources through his web site, cardiacfailure.org.

Sackner-Bernstein lectures at national and international scientific meetings. He has published more than two dozen peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in scientific journals and has extensive experience with clinical trials, as a member of several pharmaceutical-company research committees and as a principal investigator for several studies. He is a member of the Heart Failure Society of America and the American Heart Association's Council on Clinical Cardiology, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He also currently serves as a member of the Advisory Council to Improve Outcomes Nationwide in Heart Failure. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal and cardiovascular medicine.

Sackner-Bernstein attended Jefferson Medical College and completed his fellowship training in cardiovascular diseases at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
