Joseph P. Bruner, MD

Joseph P. Bruner, MD, is on one of two teams of doctors in the world that perform in-utero repair of spina bifida. He currently maintains an office in, and is director of, the division of maternal-fetal medicine at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is also a consultant in maternal-fetal medicine at the Centennial Women's Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, and Baptist Hospital, and is a clinical assistant professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Meharry Medical College School of Medicine, all in Nashville, Tenn.

A doctor in the U.S. Army, Bruner has held medical positions and done medical training throughout the United States and the world.

Bruner received his bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine. He did his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Letterman Army Medical Center at the Presidio of San Francisco. He did a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Bruner is a member of numerous medical organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and the American Medical Association.

Bruner is the founder of the U.S. Association of Military Perinatologists. He has received a number of academic and professional honors and is the scientific reviewer for a number of medical journals.
