Kathryn Kolasa, PhD, RD

Kathryn Kolasa, PhD, RD, works at The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., where she is a professor, section head of nutrition education and services, and section head for resident education in family medicine. She has written or contributed to more than 90 major publications, as well as to a textbook, book chapters, bulletins and training manuals, videotapes, and major presentations. She helped develop an interactive videodisc course on cardiovascular nutrition and fitness, a CD-ROM program on nutrition and cancer prevention, and several computerized case studies. For the past 12 years, she has written a weekly nutrition column for her local newspaper.

Kolasa received her bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and her doctorate in food science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is a licensed dietitian and a member of the Society for Nutrition Education, the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine and the American Dietetic Association. She serves on the scientific board of the American Council on Science and Health.
