Keri Wiginton, Author at WebMD

Keri Wiginton is a freelance writer for WebMD. For nearly 20 years, she has been a journalist covering health-focused topics such as addiction, mental health, end-of-life care, women’s health, and racial disparities in treatment and disease.

Wiginton holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia. Her work as an independent journalist has appeared in the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Prevention.com, Bon Appetit, Houston Chronicle, and Austin-American Statesman.

Before building her freelance writing career, Wiginton spent almost 15 years as a full-time multimedia journalist. She held long-term staff positions with the Tampa Bay Times and Chicago Tribune. There she covered human interest stories and mental health topics, including managing workplace conflict, the importance of sleep for well-being, and how striving for happiness can backfire.

Wiginton’s experience navigating chronic illness, including depression, endometriosis, and migraine, drew her to medical writing and patient advocacy. Her writing has reached readers worldwide, including a series of first-person essays for the Washington Post about the benefits of mindfulness and meditation.

Wiginton lives in Madison, Wisconsin, with her husband and two cat brothers. She volunteers weekly with a local nonprofit hospice and grief center. When not writing or volunteering, she gardens, travels to the mountains, or walks anywhere there are trees.
