Does hand washing work to protect you from coronavirus?

ANSWER

Handwashing is a very effective way to prevent infection from viruses, bacteria and other organisms. Because we touch our face, and eyes up to 40 times a day, what’s on our hands can infect us. The CDC recommends that washing hands with water and soap for at least 20 seconds can reduce the risk of infection- that means counting slowly to 20, or singing Happy Birthday twice. If you’re bored with Happy Birthday, try the ABC song twice or look on YouTube for more handwashing videos and songs!
