Richard Hunt, MD, FACEP, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Furman University, and his Master of Science degree in Anatomy from the Medical University of South Carolina. Following his master?s degree he was an emergency medical technician with Charleston County Emergency Medical Services in South Carolina. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at East Carolina University, and his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Wright State University where he was Chief Resident. From 1988 to 1998 he was a member of the faculty of the Department of Emergency Medicine at East Carolina University. During his tenure there, he served as medical director of the helicopter and ground critical care transport service, and as Vice Chair. In April 1998 he joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse as Professor and Chair. He has authored many publications on emergency medical services, air medical transport, and motor vehicle crash injury research. He served as Vice Chair of the Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Services, and is past chair of the Trauma Care and Injury Control Committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians where he continues to be a committee member. He is the American College of Emergency Physicians liaison to the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, and is President-Elect of the National Association of EMS Physicians.
