Stephen Hochschuler, MD

Stephen Hochschuler, MD, co-founded the Texas Back Institute in 1978 in Plano, Texas, as a multi-disciplinary center for the treatment of spine disorders. It is currently the largest, freestanding spine specialty clinic in the United States, with multiple locations to serve patients.

A native of New York City, Hochschuler earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia College and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He has maintained his affiliation with the University of Texas Health Science Center as a clinical instructor, a position he has held since 1977. Some of Hochschuler’s other responsibilities include chairman of the board of the Texas Back Institute; board of directors, Texas Health Research Institute; and trustee for the Picower Institute for Medical Research. He is also on the advisory board of Vidimedix, Kinex, Relax the Back, Spinal Concepts, Oratec, Inc and Cambridge Holdings. In 1996 Hochschuler received the George Kozmetsky Distinguished Achievement Award from the Society for Design and Process Science of the University of Texas. He is the author of Back in Shape and contributing author of Lumbar Disc Disease.
