Suzanne Haynes, PhD

Suzanne Haynes, PhD, serves as senior advisor for science in the Office on Women's Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. She will be named president of the Lesbian Health Fund at the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association 18th Annual Conference this week.

For the eight years prior to her appointment, Haynes was chief of the Health Education Section of the National Cancer Institute, where she launched several community breast cancer screening programs. Trained as an epidemiologist, she has published 70 articles on women's health, including papers on women and heart disease, cholesterol levels, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, lesbian health, and breast cancer screening. Haynes has contributed to the work of the National Action Plan on Breast Cancer, the Federal Women's Health and Environment Intragency Committee, and other women's health initiatives of the Office on Women's Health.
