There seems to be a lack of distinction in this review between lithium OROTATE (available w/o a prescription), and Lithium CARBONATE (prescription only). I was diagnosed with Bipolar I when I was 16, (upon having my 1st manic episode requiring in-patient hosp.) I took lithium carbonate for more than 30 years. I then (slowly) transitioned to lithium orotate, due to concerns of side effects with th...

I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar Disorder when I was 6 years old and this vile substance was forced down my throat for 11 years. The end results during my formative years, and current health/future health were disastrous. Iv seen it erode away at the minds of family members who took it as well, and who sadly refuse to do without.

i started lithium a few months ago; had been taking prozac for ten years and never thought of myself as bipolar but i do get overexcited; i feel like a wholenew world has opened up for me. i am 55 and been thru lots of trauma and i could hear birds sing and see the steam rising from my coffee never realized i hadn't experienced either of those events in years. i did end up hospitalized with lithium toxcity 600 mg and almost died but now i am on 300 and we are monitoring my blood levels. i feel alive i talk slower. family and friends noticed my voice even changedRead More Read Less

I have taken so many different drugs in over twenty years & I have found this one most effective so far in controlling my mania & agitated moods. Yes in the beginning or when I change dosage I hate the tremors. They are aggravating & frustrating but they do eventually go away. And yes, the weight gain totally stinks. I hate it. But to be honest, I haven't found much else out there that doesn't that comes close to working. I'd rather dal with a very sad aggravating weight struggle than not being able to be a good wife & mom. Its hard. I don't there will ever be that miracle drug that does it all. It's which allows me to have a happy life. Read More Read Less

A little dizzy at first (when I started taking it) but am anxious to level out. I have shied away from using Lithium due to the stigma's attached. I'm setting those aside in the name of a healthier life.

Lithium works great for the mania. Been on lithium for 30+ yrs. DRY MOUTH CAUSES MANY CAVITIES. I am losing my teeth now. Drink constantly so I have to urinate frequently. Have dry thinning hair. Have been overweight for 30+ years but I'm not sure if that is due to the respirdal I also take.

Really seems to stem anxiety which leads to my depression, from the feelings of helplessness caused by anxiety.

Lithium destroyed my life. Lithium ruined my vitality, my sexuality, my creativity, and my ability to succeed I the world. Lithium robbed me of my life. I hate lithium more than anything.

Li helps but Seroquel turned out to be the drug that stopped the mania. This article is misleading as it states "do not take Lithium with antidepressants". Most bipolar patients require antidepressants with Lithium for effective treatment and this information is not accurate, even the FDA approves antidepressants with Li.

Daughter takes it for focus, which we believe is a side effect of her epilepsy. More info: The frequency of my 8-year old daughter's brain wave spikes (epilepsy) are treated with Depakote with great success, but there is a residual hyperactivity / attention problem (i.e., being able to work through a simple grade school worksheet, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., crying, independence, focus). This residual hyperactivity could be attributed to her brain wave activity (per online research). With low-dose Lithium Orotate supplement (5 mg Lithium split am and pm, brand Next to Nature, Inc.), she is able to function, focus, and be around family in a calm and playful manner. The doctor noticed the difference and wanted to know what happened (after the ADHD meds he perscribed weren't compatible with her and after testing highest possible in lack of attention and highest in activity). I understand Lithium Orotate is alternative medicine and could be contraindicated with epilepsy at high doses, plus touted by Jonathan Wright (sp?) who is on many quack lists, but we are thankful to the Lord that this supplement works for us at this time, and that we don't have to resort to substance controlled ADHD medicines that were the worst thing that happened to us since she began having seizures. Taking more than 5 mg/day seemed to be too much, taking more than 2.5 mg/dose also seemed too much. Husband didn't like the effects (too drowsy). I haven't tried it. Must be something in there to calm the brain down.Read More Read Less

i am 28 yr old, been on lithium 3 months, started with 300mg 2x daily and now 300mg 3x daily, with the additon of 50mg trazidone and 100mg of vistaril. my mood swings have decresed slightly, but i believe with further treatment of meds and therepy the will subside greatly. side effects of shaky hands, vision change, fatigue, and slight hair-loss. as for weight gain i have only gained 2ibs, all medicine has side effects, make your doctor aware of the ones you're experiencing and don't give up hope!
