I took St. John's Wort against my medical doctor's advice. He wanted to put me on an antidepressant due to anxiety and depression. Within a short time of taking SJW I started to feel better. My depression and anxiety were non-existent but he didn't feel it was the SJW that helped. I stopped taking it after several months and slowly but surely started to feel the depression and anxiety again. ...

I used tinctures in juice, per label instructions. I tried two 1 oz bottles of this and I didn't see any noticeable difference in my depression. Went on prozac and I did see a difference. I've since gone off prozac and have found that outdoor exercise, lots of fruits and veggies, getting a steady job, and california poppy were all effective too.

It worked great to lift up my mood. I felt like Little Miss Sunshine, but after 4 weeks of taking St John's Worts daily (300 mg), I became severely constipated. For 3 months I kept changing my diet to solve the problem. Then constipation disappeared when I stopped taking St John's Wort daily, and began taking it just twice a week. Constipation is not listed as a side effect, but it certainly is one , at least for older folks.

I have been on SJW for about a month and a half. So far, I have been very pleased with it. I've had mood swings for 20 years or so. I've been on antidepressants in the past. I wanted to get back on Wellbutrin XL, but insurance does not cover it anymore. So I went this route. SJW seems to help out a lot. Moods are up and down a LOT less then they used to be. Only complaints (bare-able ones at that) are some lightheadedness and I feel more tired than I used to. Nothing to stop taking it over. Very happy there is something you can just get over the counter!Read More Read Less

St Jons Wort helps me stay calm and more focuses. My mild OCD causes anxiety and confusion, but if i take it my head is clear and i can keep focus.

Natural, and did work like a charm. A slight issue with waking up a few times in the night. Overall positive mood change from first week.

It works. I just wish I could be certain about the concentrations and variabilities of ALL of it's active ingredients, eg. hypericin, hyperforin, etc. in each capsule so that I might be able to approach consistent dosing. Also, I wish I could find a review of manufacturers of St. John's Wort so that I might be able to compare.

Let me just begin by saying I've been on practically every depression med on the market and have had limited success. It seems however that a combination of Bupropion and St Johns Wort has been incredibly successful! Within the first day I was very social, happy, productive and I even found myself dancing and singing in public! Whereas before ST Johns Wort while I was using soley Bupropion alone I was only capable of minimal tasks (which is far more than I could do without it) And getting my work done. The cost is very cheap, the side effects are very minimal and Along with a good diet, exercise and other ways to keep up good health it makes a good addition! As a side note, the worst things I experienced from it was a little bit of sensitivity to light (But I'm already rather sensitive as it is) and a bad tasting burp! Read More Read Less

I would fall asleep with no problem, then wake up every night at the same time (4:20am) with my thoughts racing. I wouldn't be able to fall asleep for about an hour, then I had to wake up at 6am for work! Needless to say, I was tired all the time! I didn't feel like I had depression, so much as it was depressing to always be tired. I started taking St. Johns Wort and after about 2 1/2 weeks, I felt like a new person! I sleep throught the night like a baby and I have so much more energy. I'm much happier. Every once in a while, it stops working because I'll try a new brand and it may not be potent, so I just get a new brand. I highly recommend St. John's wort, just be careful when in the sun as you will burn easier.Read More Read Less

I tried several brands that I had poor experiences with. When I switched to the GNC brand, it was amazing. I don't have the mood swings like I did on the others. I am happy. My pain is more tolerable (I have chronic pain), and my sleep is better.

My doctor (an MD and a homeopath) prescribed a therapeutic dose of St. John's Wort for moderate depression. It was very effective for me, improving my sleep as well as lifting the depression so that I could think and make decisions and care about life again. My energy improved. The skin on my hands did become very, very sensitive. So much so that slight bumps or slight scratches were very painful. This pain was not just at the moment of impact, but would go on for some seconds following the impact. I was also more light sensitive, but the pain on my skin was the most problematic. It was a worthwhile trade-off to lift the depression, though. And when I was well established in my normal mood range I gradually reduced the amount of the supplement. This also reduced the sensitivity. Once I went back to the minimum dosage the sensitivity went away.Read More Read Less

I started taking two 300 mg capsules every morning for menopausal symptoms. I felt great and had no ill effects. During a vacation I forgot to take it for about 10 days and I became deeply depressed. I started taking it and all was well again. I gradually cut my dosage to one 300mg capsule a day-all is good. PLEASE wean yourself off sjw slowly if you want to quit taking it.

I have always been susceptible to anxiety and general malaise or depression. I have found the improvement using St. John's wort to be dramatic. I felt better just by the second day. And by better I mean without any change whatsoever in my physical state. No change in motor functions or perception at all. Just a generally lighter demeanor. Enjoying things and people more and seeing the better rather than the worse of things in general just comes naturally now; which results in a synergy of making all my interactions better. I have no idea if it affects different people in different ways but in my case it has made a major difference. It is economical and readily available from many sources. My experience has been very encouraging.Read More Read Less
