I first discovered SAMe ( I think from a radio program in NYC) about 12 years ago when insurance ran out and I could no longer afford antidepressants. The AD's were also no longer performing very well. Coincidentally (I thought) I was suffering from the symptoms of Fibromialgia....very badly. Thousands of dollars and 2.5 years of varying fibro treatments ...guess what finally knocked it out. A...

SAMe works better for me than ANY other antidepressant, BUT you have to first learn HOW to TAKE it. I have used it almost every day for over ten years now. I can't recommend ANYTHING more highly for depression. Trial & error has taught me: 1) SAMe MUST be taken on an empty stomach. 2) ONLY use it in blister packs. (If you buy it in a bottle, it is cheaper, but once the air gets to it, it becomes less and less effective, so by the end, you might just be swallowing an empty pill. Don't chance it.) 3) Shop around to see which brand works best for you. 4) Don't give up. 5) If you DO give up and quit taking it, step down GRADUALLY or you could become suicidal. This is true of any antidepressant. 6) Do not use if you are bipolar. SAMe helped me in so many ways, I can't laud it enough. My RA is gone, as is fibromyalgia, CFIDS, anxiety, and it's also great for jet lag, for some crazy reason I don't understand. I have taken it for ten years, and I know it works, because if I ever run out or forget to take it, I get very depressed again. Good news is, an hour after I take it again, I'm my own real, non-foggy, happy self again! I have also heard it is very helpful for liver function, even among alcoholics, but if YOU are alcoholic, please get help to stop that, too. My dad was an alcoholic. You don't want to do that to your kids or family or friends. Or YOURSELF. You're more valuable than alcohol. ;) Read More Read Less

Very intense arthritis pain in fingers. I started taking one pill 400 mg everyday. Immediate pain went away. I stopped taking Sam e and the pain immediately came back in my fingers. I am now hooked on Sam e. I found a great buy from Costco on pricing.

Been taking 400 mg/day for about 18 mo now. I was amazed at how quickly it kicked in. I felt like a new woman in about 1 week. One wonderful side benefit included a reduction in my tendency toward becoming anxious about little situations in life - no more heart pounding anxiety reactions or obsessing for hours over something that happened. And my ADD really calmed down and I've been able to focus much better. My only concern is that I've noticed my anxiety and depression have started to creep back in at times. I could up the dose if that would solve the problem, but articles on dosing usually recommend using up to 2 years. Does anyone know if you can develop a resistance to SAMe? Is 2 years the max you can be on the supplement? Read More Read Less

diagnosed with OA in left hip 2 years ago, not a day without pain since (averaging about a 3, scaling from 1-8). Absolutely randomly fell onto a box of these about 3 weeks ago now. omg. being pain "free" (occasional twinge, stiffness... average <1 and maxing out at a 2) for over a week and it's been long enough for me to declare it a miracle treatment for me. i imagine i'll need to take it forever, that the damage from OA will eventually cause pain this stuff can't touch? but right now: bliss. pure bliss.Read More Read Less

I have chronic pain. I have noticed that when I run out of Sam-e, I am worse, but then takes a few weeks for it to be effective again. It does work well for me. But that is my body. Other people may have different experience.

Within 1 1/2 weeks of taking 400 mg first thing in the morning, I have more energy and my mood has greatly improved. I am 59 years old and I was worried about messing up my stomach. It has not caused any stomach problems.

the year of a house foreclosure, moving to a new town, and my dad dying, I was extremely low, especially after Christmas. I saw SAM-e in Costco and bought some when I saw that it helps with mood. Within two days, I caught myself outside playing with my kids and enjoying myself tremendously, with energy and alertness, that I hadn't had in a long time. I took it every day for several years until dietary changes gave me more energy and cleared up the depression without the SAM-e. But I recommend it to anyone I meet with depression. Now I am thinking about getting some again, for knee pain. My significant other may benefit a lot from it, too, if he'll take it, for hip pain and low energy levels. Read More Read Less

For many years I have been on anti depressant medication and nothing seemed to help me. I really felt I was going crazy until I researched what supplements to take for depression and anxiety. SAM-E popped up on my screen and I thought, "I'll give it a try" and surprisingly enough my (chronic depression and anxiety) is manageable and I feel normal. I have no side effects, I take 3 tablets (1500 MG)(Mental Refreshment) as prescribed at 5am every morning as directed on an empty stomach and by the time I'm ready to get out of bed in the morning my anxiety disappears. I love this supplement, I also take PURE, vitamin C and D3. All natural, no chemicals and this works for me after many YEARS of my own research and getting sick and tired of stupid doctors and insurance companies. Never taking antidepressants every again. Good Luck!Read More Read Less

In my early 60's I developed severe arthritis in my hands. I'??m a guitarist, and after playing guitar for 50 years it was now excruciating. So I quit playing. But I missed it terribly, it had been such a big part of my life. After a couple of years not playing guitar, and missing it, I started taking SAMe, 200 mg daily. No effect, nothing. But I kept taking it. After a few months I doubled the dose to 400 mg. In a few weeks I noticed a difference, a reduction of the pain. I found I could play guitar a little for short periods. After several months at the 400 level, I increased the dose to 800 mg/daily. That made a huge difference! My hands were still somewhat stiff and I wasn'??t able to play as smoothly and freely as when I was younger, or attempt any fancy riffs without hurting, but I could play enough to really enjoy the music again. The only problem -- I was nauseous every day. Not all day long, but for part of every day, and occasionally the nausea was accompanied by crippling pains in my abdomen. Despite all that I actually continued taking 800 mg for over a year, hoping the nausea would eventually go away. It didn'??t. So finally I cut back to 400 mg/daily, and the nausea subsided. It does help some with the arthritis. I have never noticed any other side effects, and it has no effects on my mood one way or the other.Read More Read Less

I kept taking the 800 mg hoping the nausea would go away, for over a year. Finally I went back to the 400 mg dose and the nausea stopped. I've been on 400mg for another year so far and intend to continue. It helps some. I have noticed no other side effects from the stuff, and it has no effects on my mood in any way.Read More Read Less

This supplement helped my depression immensely at first, better mood, better sleep. After awhile I began to feel more emotionally even than elated, at which point I could have upped my dosage. However, it caused serious stomach pains! Some brands were much worse than others, but combine the severe pain and agony, with a somewhat steep price tag associated with upping the doses, and I quit taking it. This caused extreme withdrawals. I went through deep depression and low energy for about a week until I adjusted to life without it. Read More Read Less

Unfortunately this treatment did not work for me. It caused panic attacks and heightened depression. However inexpensive, it may be worth trying to relieve symptoms. It did not work for me.

I have struggled with depressive symptoms throughout my adult life that I attributed to Hep-C Virus (HCV) symptoms, as well as multiple attempts at treatment with nasty cocktails with serious side-effects. I cleared the HCV early this spring but never realized a lifting of the dark-cloud of sadness in spite of my "health" I found SAMe and after reviewing it started with 400mg twice daily. I realized improvements almost immediately. I was unable to renew my supply for about 10 days and noticed my depression returning until I was able to re-start it once again. The cost is a concern so I will start trying 400mg once daily. I would highly recommend this product!Read More Read Less
