I began taking Betaine HCL after taking Protonix for years...did not really know that Protonix was causing my heart fluctuations so after taking HCL for about 2 - 3 weeks I have been, not fully free but somewhat free of acid reflux and I say this because some foods just tend to upset my stomach. I starting having problems a few months ago (discovered by starting an exercise regimen) where food (protein, most notably) would just sit in my stomach and cause intense burning/cramping pain as well as acid reflux, belching, and other issues. I had sever gastric reflux for several years. I couldn't eat a hot dog without bad heartburn (some other foods as well). I was on PPIs for about 6 years and it kept getting worse. It was waking me up at night with acid in my mouth, and i was desperate. I heard about Betaine HCl and tried it. It has been over 9 years now with no reflux.
