Was diagnosed with high BP approximately 10 years ago and was prescribed several different types of meds and finally got up to Diovan and HCTZ. Due to all of the side effects from all the meds, I swithed...took a chance, tried Hawthorne Berries 565MG twice per day and noticed results within a week. BP is now down to 120/70 with no side effects. Natural, worked for me but it may not be for every...

I am nearly 70, and have been taking Hawthorn for 6 years now, my annual blood tests have never been better. The principal reason for taking was because my GP wanted to put me on Statin Drugs and I refused this recommendation!

I think that for a great many Hawthorne Berries will work. For example, my friend's husband used this to effectively to reduce his blood pressure. For me, I'm in the rare minority where this gave me extreme anxiety and complete insomnia. I tried this on two occasions and got the same results.

I have been taking for 2 1/2 - 3 years. It did put my blood pressure to a safe level. However, I started having pain and discomfort under my right rib. For the heck of it I discontinued and after just 3 days the pain is gone.

After By-pass surgery in 2000 following a heart attack, I was told that I had congestive heart failure and my Cardiologist prescribed medication for that. However the side effects of the medication made my heart beat slow down so much (low 40s in beats per minute)that the physician wanted to give me a pacemaker to speed up my heart beats so that I could take more of the medication. I chose not to have a pacemaker and I quit going to that Cardiologist. I then read about Hawthorn Berry (Nature's Way Brand: Standardized Hawthorn) and on my own I began taking 2 capsules once to twice a day. After a year's time on this regimen, I contacted a new Cardiologist and he ran tests which indicated that although I had some heart damage from the earlier heart attack, I no longer had congestive heart failure. Thus no need for the congestive heart failure medication. Boy was I happy about that!! Regarding Hawthorn's other benefits -- well, I can't tell whether Hawthorn Berry has helped me in cholesterol and blood pressure readings because I am still taking medications for those things. Perhaps the Hawthorn supplementation helps support those other medications, but I still found them necessary. Nevertheless I am very grateful to a kind Father in Heaven who guided me through prayer to find this beneficial herb that he has placed on this beautiful earth so that my health prognosis as a 60 year old man is very good with good performance in my treadmills and other tests. I am a firm believer in finding natural herbs where ever possible and Hawthorn Berry in my mind is a "God send."Read More Read Less

i been taking hawthorn cause i have high blood pressure. ive been on a couple weeks. i started cardio 10 min. im up to 30 minutes. i would adjust my exercise til i was reaching 130 beats so i can reach aerobic and fat burning. a strange but good thing happened. i had taken it an hour b4 exercise. well my pulse reached 130 but i was suprised. maintaining a certain speed my pulse dropped from its 130 down to 65 beats a minute and during my last two mintutes it returned back to 130. it stay at 65 for about 15 minutes and i checked and rechecked my pulse. same effort and sweating but its like my heart was finding the work easier.im interested to see how it progresses as its supposed to take 2 months to reach full benefit. much to my suprise im quite pleased and will not increase but try morning or evening and prior for the dose and see if it changes.Read More Read Less

I have replaced 20 mg Lisinopril daily with 1 gram of Hawthorn Berries and 1/2 gram Hawthorn Extract in a.m. and p.m. I took a bit higher dose to be sure I got some results and will lower as I lose weight. I have not seen readings like 127/78 in 10 years. I'm happy and thankful to be getting the lowered BP plus whatever other good things it's doing to my body.

Periodically my pressure goes up usually as a result of pain stemming from a condition called dystonia. And, I do not want a doctor telling me I have to take prescription blood pressure drugs. As it is, I receive botox A injections every 90 days for the dystonia. So, at 60 years old, I've decided to make this a regular part of my daily regimen because it DRAMATICALLY lowers my pressure without the dissertation length list of side effects that come with prescription meds! I take it in convenient capsule form! Recently, I began tuning in to the fact that a another great benefit is the extreme sense of calm that comes over me 1 to 2 hours after ingesting. I really like this feeling, because the dystonia causes tremors. I use the Nature's Way brand, by the way, which can be purchased at Amazon.Read More Read Less

I have been using herbal extracts of hawthorn berry for a couple of years, and it kept both systolic and diastolic bp down. It reduced the systolic bp first, and the diastolic bp came down after a month's use or so. It's a good idea to keep track of your bp yourself, and adjust the dose (within recommendations). I have used Baldwins extract (from UK), and also made my own alcohol-based extract from dried berries (4 oz to 1 pt 40%). It may be easier to bring capsules or teabags when traveling, though.Read More Read Less

I monitor my blood pressure daily since turning 55 and noticed over the past 1-2 years its been creeping up. Although I'm a vegetarian and exercise regularly, I believe the culprit is actually stress from my job, which has become more demanding as I'm aging. I've tried numerous relaxation technics which help to some degree. I'm not a fan of pharmaceutical drugs and always look for a lifestyle change or natural alternative. I've read about the many benefits of hawthorn, so I decided to see what effect it may have on lowering my BP. My BP was running in the 126-134/88-92 range. After twelve days of taking Gaia Herbs Hawthorn Supreme 500mg, one in the morning and evening between meals, my BP was in the 117-121/76-81 range. This is where I was accustom to seeing it two years ago. I will continue taking this as long as I see positive results...or retire! Read More Read Less

I have not taken this drug, but plan on it since I am having heart problems. My mom has taken it for 35 years. She has had leaking valves and also irratic heart beat. She is 96 years old, looks great, still drives, (I might add a very good driver in Mass.). Doctors are amazed at her condtion. Can't understand. So I believe it is worth a try for everyone!

Was getting terribly painful cramps in lower leg at night, and would have to get up and walk it out. Chiropractor said it was blood flow problems and gave me Hawthorne drops (10 drops at night). Wow, it worked, took approx 2 weeks, but now no cramps.
