Amputation Directory

An amputation is the removal of a part of the body that is covered by skin (not an internal organ). Common amputations include arm, leg, foot, and hand amputations. An amputation may be done because of injury, frostbite, gangrene, and more. Where the limb is cut will depend on how severe the problem is and how well a prosthetic limb will fit. Some amputations are accidental -- they may occur in a car accident, due to an animal bite, or due to other trauma.
