I had a terrible sinus infections creating a very bad cough. My entire body hurt from coughing including my temples in my head, neck, shoulders, chest, stomach, back and ribs. The Tessalon lessened the severe coughing almost immediately. I still cough, but not nearly as bad. It does, however, make me sleep a lot. Of course, rest is a good thing. I would highly recommend this medication to help reduce coughing.

This medication was prescribed along with a Z-pack. I feel 100% better in regards to my other symtpoms but the cough is just as aweful as it was initially. The cough is exceptionally deep and very hard to control. I wake up during the night still on a consistant basis. It is as though I am not taking anything at all. I;m very disappointed.

About 8 years ago, I ran a medical office. After a long bout of Bronchitis, one of my docs finally gave me an Rx for Tessalon Perles. It was like a miracle drug! I slept... quietly! I turn to Tessalon Pereles when nothing else works - it's easy, there's no taste and it's fast acting. Honestly, I didn't think there were any side effects, until I found some on a website. I had a cough for 6 weeks that I couldn't get rid of. Doctor has diagnosed bronchitis. The perles have reduced cough to nearly nothing after 6 days.

Perles are best used for a 'spasmodic' cough, one not necessarily caused by excessive mucus.

Medication is near useless. I have had no change in the occurrence of the cough. At best the cough is not as deep but still persistent.

I have bronchitis a couple of times a year and also think I have a mild case of asthma. This drug works like a charm. I take 2 100mg perles at night and do not cough all night long. I take 1 during the day if I need it and the cough disappears. Wonderful medication for cough.

I've taken this medication for bronchitis, and although I didn't cough quite as much while taking it, the difference wasn't very noticeable. I was disappointed with it.

I have COPD and get brohchitis every winter. This is the only thjing that helps my cough. At the start of taking this medication I had an increase in coughing, and bringing up mucus. I have a sinus infection which has produced an awful cough. I finally begged my doc to give me something, even a narcotic but since I also needed something for during the day he prescribed this stuff. This so far Tessalon is not helping me. I don't understand why it helps some people and not others. I am going to take the capsules closer together and see if this helps. I am very unhappy right now. I am on 3 weeks of antibiotics for the 2nd time and you would think I would lose the cough by NOW! overall I am dissatisfied with this product.Read More Read Less

I had a bad case of pneumonia in the last three months of pregnancy. I was about two days away from being put in the hospital, when they put me on new antibiotics and this medication. I was coughing until I couldn't breathe. I took this every 6 hours or so, 100mg. It worked like a charm. I would say to people who are experiencing lots of side effects from their meds, drink lots of water while on medication. Most people walk around dehydrated, and in that state medication doesn't circulate around your system in the proper manner. This is one of the best cough medicines I've taken. My doctor gave my 11 year old daughter 2 phills a day and it worked so well she neaver coughed one for 2 months! This worked so well after just one day!

My 12 year old daughter was prescribed this medication for a cough. After taking it for only 3 days, she developed severe swelling of her hands and joints, as well as hives. Please be aware that these are side effects of this drug, as her doctor did not feel that her condition was related to Tessalon perles and directed her to keep taking them for cough. I chose to not give them to her anymore, and all symptoms went away.

Over the counter dextromethorphan (400mg) had no effect on controlling a severe cough. 100mg of Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) almost immediately helped to relieve my symptoms.

My doctor prescribed this medication as a an alternative to a narcotic cough supressant. I was still up all night coughing.
