When I went to the doctor I was obese and my thyroid was underactive. The doctor put me on 88mcg of L-Thyroxine. It kept changing until I learned from a nurse to take it 1 to 2 hours before eating. My medication has been at 50 mcg for 2 years now and I have lost from almost 200 pounds to 135. I am very pleased with this medication and have no side effects from it.

I would rather be taking methamphamine. (Kidding) I have been on this med for years and I can fall asleep on a dime. Not exactly on a dime, but I have no energy whatsoever. There has to be something to restore some of my energy. I am on 88mcgs. HELLO!!!!!! My doctor gave me a B12 shot. I slept for two days.

Have not been able to tolerate meds for hypothyroid. Interact with many of my current meds, Lamictal, Estradiol and Prevastatin. This med causes insomnia, fatigue, muscle aches and severe cramps in the calves.

Prescribed 25 mg synthroid because of low hormone count diagnosed during annual physical; lost about 10 or more lbs over several months. 2years later rec'ved repeat diagnosis, prescribed L-thyroxine 50mg.Suffered immediate feelings of lethargy, limited imp[rovement in hormone lefevel, regained most of lost weight. Now prescrHave feeling brand name ibed 75mg; haven't noticed much improvement. Susect original brand(Canadian?) was superior.

Following bi-pass surgery and hietal hernia surgery, my thyroid was not working. Also prescribed Prednisone for plural effusion which can interfere with thyroid function. I am experiencing very bad indigestion.

For once, my fingernails are strong (not thin and papery like they were). I have noticed dizziness in the morning or when arising from a prone position, especially after doing yoga. Any thoughts? Was hoping to lose a few pounds; not happening! Hate waiting one hour before eating after taking in morning.

Since the removal of my thyroid 11/2009 I've been on this medication, the doses has been adjusted which helps with keeping the TSH levels within range. Unfortunately, my weight has increased from 169 lbs to a 223, doesn't matter if I diet or not. I try to remain active, I've gone from working out a minimum of 30 mins per day to approximately 3 or 4 days a week and I really have to push myself to do that, problem is the next day after working out, I am so exhausted and ache so much that that I can barely move the next day. I have sleep problems, muscle aches (even without working out) and pains, little hair thinning, always cold, tired, brain foggy, forgetfulness. I'm pretty sure that these complications are side effects of the medication..Read More Read Less

L-Thyroxine generic for Synthroid has been a great relief for me... prior to being diagnosed, I noticed that major lump in my throat... it has gone down considerably and I can take hot showers, eat watermelon and chocolate without choking.... it's been really nice!!! I can go without the weight gain though.....

I seem to run down half way through a box, the effectiveness seems to be lost even though I keep it refrigerated. Not as good as the medication some years ago. I have had Graves Disease for 35 years so I am familiar with the sensations.

I am experiencing hair loss. I am concerned about the difference in Levothyroxine 50 mcg and L-Thyroxine 0.05 mg. Are they the same in strength? I am only borderline hypo.

It has helped with some symptoms like mood swings but in the last 3 years I have gone from 125 (which I have been since 30ish) to 150. I also have new sypmtoms of feeling like my joints hurt, muscle tightness, memory loss and lack of energy. I have been told by my doctor that my weight gain has nothing to do with my thyroid or medication and do I want to have a dietary consultation. I am so tired of feeling like a hypocondriac!
