I write this with the intention to share my experiences with the highly potent and very addictive medication, Fentanyl. I myself use the Duragesic Patches (by Janssen), I have found through trail and error that the patches Fentanyl (the Generic brands by other companies just don't have the same Strength or potency as this brand name I use). I have unfortunately been on the patches for what seems l...

The Patch works really well, nearly too well. As a 38 y old Landscape contractor with 2 bulged discs in my lumber pushing on my sciatic I was unable to get out the front door, let alone try and get into my ute to get to work. I have been bulging discs for the last 20 years, but this time it was pinching sciatic nerves. nothing was helping, MS Contin,Tramadol, Endone, Valium, and ended up in emergency. Had quartersone injection for a nerve block. Didnt work. Ended up on the 50 patches for a month before surgery. Surgery was last wednesday. I stopped all medication as I didnt have any pain and no one had told me otherwise. Bad decision guys. I have been coming down like a junkie for the last 5 days. I was rushed back to hospital in an ambulance as they thought my heart rate was going to cause me to crash and burn. That was yeasterday 4 days in which was the peak of the withdrawal. I have turned the corner now and can see the light, but please be carefull coming off this medication it is so powerful that not having it could kill you. Withdrawal symptoms - Short of breath,Chilled to the bone, no energy, insomnia, emotional. Day 5 the chills have gone, can breath better, have a little more energy but still not enough to function. Hoping it is all upwards from here. I would do it different next time, come off slowly, cut the rate down, drop off other opioid meds, drop patch strength slowly, and then get ready to come down. I was only on this for 30 days, some of you have been on it for years. Prepare yourself. You need support to do this, my wife was here to help and my Mother was looking after the kids. I feel lucky that I had the support. Be carefull- this med is 80 times stronger than Morphine.Read More Read Less

it helps very much with chronic back pain i tryed back sugery and was unsuccsessful, but a doctor wont just give you this and thats the problem they should be able to care about patients who are really suffering out there with pain , i've had multipul e,r, visit's and i have permenent nerve damage ,because a doctor waited to long ,i can not stand to even be aroud people when i'm in pain . it gets that bad for me and a doctor will tell you everyone is different .but the proper tests should be done sooner and doctors should ask you what makes you as comfortable as possible . and thats the whole problem here . they more often don't Read More Read Less

I am allergic to many of the morphine based pain medicines and to hydrocodone etc....I have very bad back problems (won't bore you with details). Some of the pain meds do nothing at all for me, even the strong ones. I was at my wits end as was my doctor. The patch gave me my life back. I was able to work thru the day without crying from pain. Many of you are complaining about the patch not sticking on to you. That is why you need to get the company that makes the patch to send you the overlay to put on top of them. The company mails them to me for free. I called and complained and they told me to just give them the number on the bottom of my box and they came in a day or two. I keep plenty on hand now. The company has me fill out a form to send in in advance and they send them for free. Call customer service of your drug maker and get some. They are wonderful! Best wishes to everyone. I hope the patch helps you as much as it has helped me! Read More Read Less

For all of you having trouble with the patch staying on, in the instructions, there are 2 types of bandages specifically made for the fentanyl patch. Thru a local (non-chain) pharmacy, they ordered me the Bioclusive 2x3" patch. It is a clear patch and will not absorb medicine as bandages might. Works wonders for me---my patch never comes off unless I am taking it off. Try this and you will be amazed. You should be able to order through any "Good Neighbor" or private pharmacy. I have Kaiser Insurance and they gave me the wrong advise because they don't carry this patch. Good luck to you allRead More Read Less

This medication was a life saver for me. After a bad car accident, surgery...this was the only thing that helps! And until just very recently never had a problem with them staying on..I think they are making them different now! Wears off sooner and falls off by 2nd day.

Failed neck surgery, nerve damage, severe o/a (of age of 80+yrs old).Fentanyl generic doesn't work as nearly as brand. Tho,no insur. brand is $400/mo for 50mcg. I will change back this mo. Been on over 8yrs. Uses Vicodin ES in eve. when not working/driving. I get such relief with this patch. I've never abused, have been dealing with chronic neck pain over 20yr from mva, hit by garbage truck. I work PT as ped.nurse. Allows me to be more active in daily activities, & with grandsons. Hoping something else will be developed in future.Read More Read Less

The Duragesic patches work great for me, I suffer from severe chronic lower back pain.I use the patches along with Percocet 3x day.I have found that to get the patch to stay in place well,I clean the area with rubbing alcohol, let the area where I am placing the patch dry, then I apply the patch. If anyone still has trouble with the patch staying in place, then Nexcare makes a fantastic water-proof tape.Cut 4 strips of the tape, and tape the outer edges of the patch. But usually if you clean the arear well with rubbing alcohol first, the patch should stay in place with no problems at all.I am on the 75mcg Duragesic patch and can function great with normal everyday activities.Without the patch I could not function at all. I hope this info helps someone.Read More Read Less

I've had chronic pain with fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel,6 surgeries within the last 3 years for knee replacements and broken collar bone. I've been on the Duragesic patch for the last 6 months. The Devel's Patch. I hurt worse, spent times in the EMC room for pain, mood swings, fevers, nausia, chills, and the major one is breathing problems. I have to use a inhaler, my heart is beeting faster, which scars me. I've talked to my Doctor he seems to beleive in the patch. I've asked around about the patch. All I;ve heard is negative results. My pain meds were working better. The Doctor is trying trial and error. He is not listening at all what should I do? I need some solutions. I never thought I would be going through this. I'am trying to wein myself off but it's not working. So what know? Read More Read Less

After close to 3 yrs of chronic bone (clavicle) pain and taking vicodin 500 & 750 daily, my Dr. had me try the patch. First 25 then moved me up to 50 after 2 weeks with the hopes of reducing the vicodin. It worked!! Then I realized that I was having an allergic reaction as my feet swelled about 3 times their size. Dr. took me off the patch and back to the vicod which just doesn't work! Not to mention what it's doing to my kidneys/liver. Anyone with a similiar situation?

If it was one year ago,I would not be happy with this treatment.I found the patches every where but on me. I did find that if you rub alcohol an let it dry, the patch sticks great. It took some time to get the right level but Doctors cannot read your mind an if you are like me,I was scared that I was going to get that look. You know that one that says you are a druggie. So if you cannot tell your doctor this without the look, or they will not listen. Get a better doctor. They are out there,

For the past 8 years I have suffered with chronic baack pain. I've been thru a lot of diffrent type of pain relivers, and have found the most consistant relif with the Duragesic TD patch. It helps me have the extended reliff to get out of bed in the morning. The only problem I have had is, the patch does not stick to my skin after the first day. I found that by using a I.V.Prep wipe befor i apply the patch helps hold it on.
