After reading all the reviews I was scared to take this. So, I made sure to drink a full glass of water before I took it and right before bed. I took it with lunch and with dinner, in the middle of the meal. I never experienced any symptoms and took two a day for one week.

DO NOT take this if you are allergic to sulfa drugs. I only took for two days and I had a severe allergic reaction to this medicine. My eyes started turning black/purple....looked like I had not slept in weeks. Chills so bad my teeth chattered and my entire body was shaking. Excruciating body aches all over my body, as if my muscles were being ripped out of my body and I started having a horrible...

Was in this medication for a week 4x per day for 7 days, had an upset stomach during yhqt week. When I took the last dose within 12 hrs I was very ill. Severe abdo pain, felt like entire digestive system from just under diaphragm to lower abdo was soaked in acid. Bloated abdomen, very sore just to touch. Vomiting, had to go to hospital fir IVFluids and morphine for the pain and I can handle a lot of pain. Next day burning reduced abdo very sore to touch, exhausted, aching all over with some nerve pain. Slowly improving at this stage. Got rid of the UTI but will never take again. I am age range 45 - 49 but the age selector wouldn't allow me to select that age range.Read More Read Less

I almost died from this medication! I broke out in such severe hives, and anaphylaxis two days after finishing a 5-day dose. I ended up in the ER getting epinephrine to stop the reaction. I've been on steroids for days and still feel all off. There is no telling what else it has done to my blood cells and brain. The serious side effects and amount of injury it has caused innocent victims should be enough to get it off the market! Up till now I have trusted Dr's without looking into medications myself....NO MORE!Read More Read Less

This drug almost killed me and has hospitalized me 3 times. It mimics sepsis but the common denominator was this medicine that almost killed me in September. This drug should be taken off the market. Its dangerous! I need to know if anyone reading this has had the same experience. 1 dose and it caused me to go to the hospital twice. The 2nd time, I was in the ICU and almost died. Just got out of the hospital again after taking one dose and now we know for sure it is this drug causing this severe sepsis mimicking reaction.Read More Read Less

Prescribed following dental surgery for some reason and was given no explanation. If it was for pain, it had no effect whatsoever. I will contact the prescribing doctor today and find out why. I will also post a negative review on the dentist.

Bad, bad, bad just ALL BAD. This is nothing I have ever experienced before from any antibiotic I have ever taken and I have never had any severe side affects to any other antibiotic. I thought I caught covid or something but the symptoms happened right after I took this medication. My throat started flaring up and I was extremely tired suddenly. I only took 3 pills before I started researching this "medicine" which thank God. My body was telling me to stop taking it after the second dose but when I tried the third I knew it wasn't just in my head. I got up to do something and immediately had to lay back down out of a sudden dizziness followed by shortness in breath, stomach pain and a pulsating light headache and the inability to move for like 5 mins. I feel like I'm dying and have depression out of no where.. My first time writing a review to warn everyone that you are playing with your life if you take this drug NO JOKE. Read More Read Less

Had a UTI for about three weeks before being prescribed this medication. 100mg 2x daily for 7 days. I have taken three pills, 1 yesterday, 2 today. I have had nausea for 4-5 hours after taking each pill. Last night i got severe lung pain and needed to take albuterol via nebulizer. I get abdominal cramping and bloating as well. Today, after my second pill, i needed to take two additional breathing treatments throughout the day. I have asthma that is controlled well and do not take treatments like that. This medication caused shortness of breath and tightness in my chest and lungs. My UTI symptoms have completely subsided, which is the only good part of this. My urine IS a rusty/orange color despite my levels of hydration (drinking over a gallon of water per day). I also have white particles floating in my urine. So it has been effective in treating my UTI, but i will be switching to a different medication due to the side effects. Read More Read Less

I have had a uti that required two doses of Levofloxacin, which finally seemed to clear it up. In the mean time my gynecologist suggested that I see a urologist to keep any future UTIs in check. The urologist did an extensive urine analysis and put me on a protocol of more Levofloxacin and then prescribed 30 days of Nitrofurantoin. I took it in the a.m. & felt fine but by the afternoon I was tired, had chills then a fever. I blamed it on exercising in the morning and working outside doing yardwork in the heat. On the 6th day, I felt fine in the morning but got very tired in the afternoon and laid down for a nap. I woke up vomiting. I was extremely weak.. My husband rushed me to the E.R. They put me back on Levofloxacin after a chest xray indicated that I had walking pneumonia. I went home; felt fine & my urologist said for me to resume taking the Nitrofurantoin after I finished up the Levofloxacin. The first day I took the Nitrofurantoin again I got very ill in the afternoon with uncontrollable vomiting & diahaerea. Back to the E.R. C.T. scan normal but I was diagnosed with dehydration & lactic acidosis. I am not one who ever has a reaction to any medications I have taken. I will not be continuing to take the Notrofurantoin. After 3 days of taking nitrofurantoin I started having chest pain, sore throat and sore jaw. It's now been 5 days after I stop taking the medication. I still have chest pain and sore throat.

So it worked. Reoccurring UTI is gone, but at a cost. I read a ton of reviews on this website and knew I may have symptoms, but honestly thought I would be fine because I have a strong stomach and rarely ever experience side effects from medication. Boy was I wrong. These antibiotics absolutely destroyed my gut - which is usually in great, working condition. Within the first 24hrs I had somewhat severe stomach pain (was always worse towards the end of the day for some reason), and I could tell my digestion was very off. My stomach seemed to be struggling after meals; bloat, lots of gurgling, feeling a lot of air moving around and feeling like I needed to pass gas or use the restroom but nothing happened. I'm also usually very regular and have hardly ever struggled with constipation. I had no nausea, but did experience a drop in appetite. Luckily within 48hrs of being off of it, and giving my stomach a big boost on probiotics/fermented foods to try to repair the good bacteria in my gut, I am feeling almost normal again. All in all I'm glad to have the UTI gone, but I will remember the name of this antibiotic and ask for anything else the next time I need to be prescribed. Read More Read Less

My Dr. Prescribed me this medication for my UTI. I only had two side effects from the medicine. The first time I took a dose I noticed I was a little lightheaded but knowing me, of course I didn't eat anything before taking the medication...I'm hard-headed lol but the second side effect I had was sleepiness. I walked around like a zombie until I fell asleep ??

Emergency Prescribed 7 days worth at 2x100mg a day. First day felt ok. 2nd day I was nauseous, face flushing, heart racing, dizzy, shortness of breath which then caused a panic attack. 3rd day was lethargic, jittery and then had full blown panic & had to be rushed to urgent care. Had panic attack symptoms for hours each day until the last day (day 7) where I went into severe hyperventilation (couldn’t catch my breath, tingling over my body, my hands & feet went into spasm, and my heart was racing out of my chest. 911 was called & they came to check me over. They thankfully checked me over (blood sugar, oxygen and ECG) & determined I was having horrible side effects from this antibiotic. I did not take my last dose. It has been 3 days since I’ve had the antibiotics in me, and I’m still having lack of appetite, dizziness, shortness of breath, extremely weak & feeling panic/depressed. I will never take these again. I wish I had seen warnings online before taking them. Read More Read Less

I called my doctor and they said to stop the medication but there was nothing they could do right now for the nausea I just has to wait it out. I just want to crawl in a hole till its over. NEVER take this medication.
