I am on this medication due to a stroke 10 years ago. Doctors still aren't sure if it works but I know it does. Not knowing that I wasn't taking the drug for a week, I told my husband that I was forgetting words, was mildly confused and didn't feel as mentally sharp as I usually did. He confessed to me that the prescription has run out and that I had been off of it for a week. As soon as I took it again, I was back to normal. It certainly has been beneficial for me and I will continue using it..Read More Read Less

My husband has mild to moderate impairment and was unable to formulate a sentence in many cases when questioned. After starting this along with 2 TBS of coconut oil per day there was an immediate improvement within two weeks and his mood and function improved. I am still learning as a caregiver what to expect. He does seem to have plateaued and is now 9 months into treatment. He cannot play cards or board games any more and does not look at this email as he often did before he was diagnosed.

Mum has been taking this medication for approximately 9 months. Noticed very quick improvement which has gradually come to a plateau. The pharmacy made an dispensed the medication into the morning dose in error and my Mum was like a zombie, very confused, had a far away gaze. I checked the medication try and found the error. Appetite is poor, taste has changed but now make mum a soya milk, complan drink with hot chocolate + a little double cream to improve nutritional intake which has helped greatly. My Mum has reported seeing things when she has woken in the night but on balance of the benefits of the medication, this is less distressing than the alternative. My only real concern is that the pharmacy keep changing to generic brands which they sometimes forget to identify on the tray and this can cause my Mum great anxiety. The tablets are just identified on the tray as Donepezil. It concerns me as I feel they do this as a much cheaper option and not necessarily in the best interest of the patient. Read More Read Less

My mom has been on this medication for about 5 weeks. The dosage is 10 MG, started her on half a tablet the first 4 weeks before bed time. She was taking Trazodone 50 MG for sleep, during this time I had to wean her off the Trazodone and slowing introduces Melatonin. During the first 4 weeks she said she was having vivid dreams and has been having trouble sleeping. She is experiencing nausea, frequent urination, loss of appetite, excessive tiredness. Now that she started the full dose of 10 MG, she is also having migraine headaches, severe depression, anxiety and nervousness. Not sure if this is another adjustment period for her, will have to call her doctor to see if she needs more time to adjust. I have notice that she is more responsive and more alert since starting the medication. Read More Read Less

I tried this medication on 2 different occasions, about 2 weeks apart, both times, I awoke in the middle of the night, got out of bed and did very crazy and dangerous things. I think this is a very dangerous drug for some people. An 83 year old male

Mom has been on this (10mg) for several moths, and there has been no effect - positive or negative. Neuro just says to keep taking it. He doesn't live with it, I guess.

I am 65 years old & while taking this medication I began having some illicit & unwanted sexual dreams. I was left feeling so disturbed that I've just stop taking the medication, but was wondering if anyone else was having the same or similar results.

I have been Taking care of Mrs. A, 86 female widow, for last 3 years; Doctor Visits, medication, monitoring, so I know her very well. After 4 week trail her major "complaints" are: Has VERY vivid mixed Dreams that are either full night mares or just confusing dreams that " SHE CAN'T "wake herself UP out of them"-she says Like a nightmare about a nightmare that gets her very agitated. Mrs. A would, loudly, have conversations and arguments as she talks in her sleep. ( I know that the brain-during rem-sleep "Restrains us physically" so we Don't "act out" dreams and hurt ourselves) Mrs. A' second complaint is that when she does wake up she is ;overly depressed, confused and talks incoherently. Them she would become very aggravated and argues to EVERYBODY- about incoherent/ non-existing topics. She wouldn't SNAP out of it until hours later. No apologies. She has Alzheimer’s stage 5,"Senior Dementia ," needs a walker & chair and in general is NOT really a Nice or "personable" person, or Social. I have also, after closely hourly/daily, have been Monitoring her with Donezpil- )as I handle her doctors & medications & house upkeep, shopping, meal preps, bathing and just gradually it has been very noticeably building up that during the day now is more; rude, defiant and combative with everyone and about everything. I take care/ go with her in her wheelchair, to various doctors and very knowledgeable about all her MEDS and possible interactions. Since the last month I have not seen any signs of any Increase-in-Memory, or becoming more Social or "awake" more to try to remember even current or up-coming up coming events . And actually , now, she has Increased her Base-Core's self-centeredness to a higher state. I ( and doctors agree) know there has been no real "positive" aspects of her on it. She is on a few other pills including an anxiety pill, a SSRI, so there are alot of others interactions and situations in Mrs. A’s life too.. Read More Read Less
