My mother started 10 mg of Donepezil about 3 weeks ago. I've called her neurologist this morning after researching possible side effects. I've had her to the Dr. twice because she has been so weak, depressed, nauseous, loss of appetite, spent entire days in bed, complains of aches/pains, nightmares, talking in her sleep, pale and looks very dehydrated. The Dr. ordered blood work which came back fine and chest X-ray which came back fine... I'm now leaning toward this medicine causing the problems. Have been taking donepezil for about 5 weeks. I thought it was helping me, but I am having second thoughts now. The last two nights I have been awaken. I was going to adjust my head to my pillow, but when I lifted my head I felt very dizzy. I tried to sit up in bed, but I couldn't. After I laid there for a few minutes I slowly sat up. Most of the dizziness was gone. I sat in my easy chair for a while and went back to bed and didn't wake up until 8am. This has happened the last 2 nights exactly alike. I don't know whether it was caused by a side effect of the donepezil or maybe by an interaction from another prescription. Right now I am taking oxbutynin, omeprazole, 325mg aspirin, vitamin D and a multi-vitamin.Read More Read Less

I asked my husbands doctor if there were something for dementia and he put my husband on this,it has had "remarkable" results all positive.He had dreams at first but they passed in a little time. I LOVE this med, my sweet husband is back in the swing of things and it is wonderful.People who try this type of drug need to understand that 1 drug might not work for a person and they need another or a lower dosage but it is very well worth the time and trouble.

My 90-yr-old mother had no side effects at all with this. It seems to help her process information and make better decisions.

I see no difference or improvement with this med.

Sleeplessness at first, and lots of dreaming, but that all went away after a few weeks of taking the drug.

My father had dumbness all over and servere dizziness.Started 4 days ago....

This is the second time my mom has been taking this medicine. she was doing fine on it the first time. the only reason she stopped taking it was her perscription ran out and I didnt realize it until she started asking me the same quetions over and over more that usual. She has sense been taking it again, right now she is having some dierreha with it, and is starting to be her old self again as far as her mood and depression.. its not a cure but i will take slowing it down over having nothing at all. I HAVE PARKINGSON'S DISEASE. THE PK MEDS DO NOT WORK AS WELL WITH THE DONEPEZIL AS IT DID BEFORE I STATED DONEPEZZIL

My 83 yr. mother, has tremors, no energy, speaking has become very hard to do and sits most of the day. Walking is very unstable too. After one week of taking 5 mil each day..wowie what a difference!!! She talks all the time, walks more stable and is a happy lark! Thank you for making a wonderful women happy for a least awhile!!!

this med has not worked for my mom, it has made her worse, the tremors, weakness and dizziness are too much. she seems like a different person on on this med.will stop and speak to Dr.

I have periodic bowel cintrol problems, not diahrea but loose stule.

taking this medication has made me sick so I stopped taking it, I got stomach irritation and kept vomiting and couldn't eat anything, so I stopped taking this medication and have not had the problem since I stopped taking it.

hard time sleeping,nightmares

my mom just started taking this medicine,i,see the difference in her way of thinking,the way she inneract,with her children,when before,she just was not herself.I'm grateful,that she's coming around,to getting better.

terrible. felt like i was druged. my head feels swoled. a bad head headake.

Memory is shaper. However I do see a change in mood and behavior. When someone is a Great Gentleman all their life and now is more anxious to be "Boss" it makes for a harder life for both of us. Some trouble with sleep and eating less. There is weight loss. At this time, it's a difficult decision whether to continue or not.
