My husband was prescribed Aricept back in November and it's improved his memory/confusion... I noticed in about 2 weeks that he wasn't as confused and had better recall. I know it's not a cure but it helps and it's very obvious right now.

A year ago my mother did not know who i was. Out of 10 children she was always closest to me. After taking aricept for a couple of months i had my mom back. She is now active mentally and physically. Thank God for aricept.

My 90 y/o mother takes Aricept 10mg for dementia. Has taken it for 10 months now. After about 4-5 months I noticed a increase in her dementia. Restless nights, more confused not during the day also. Not sure why but I am going to d/c and see what the next few months reveal.

Aricept has worked very well for my 87 yr. old mother. The BIGGEST problem is how much it cost. She has to choose between proper nutrition and her medication because she can't afford both!!!

This medication has been a Godsend. My husband was forgetting many things and unable to remember words, actions, events. He started taking 5mg each night and now his memory has improved imensely. We are thrilled with the outcome.

Experienced "vivid dreams and night sweats". Mental "sharpness" seems to have improved slightly.

My Mother had no short term memory for many years and at 86 had 2 surgeries within a week and woke up without any long term memory as well. She is on Aricept and we are having terrifically bad time with her wanting to go home (to her childhood home) and she says her parents are with her. Could this be from the Aricept, I did not find much to indicate that it was but no where else to turn. Thanks.

I just want to say for people considering Aricept, not everyone has such a negative experience. My mother has been taking Aricept now for about 2-3 years. She takes the lowest dosage. 10 mg was hard for her so she went back to 5. However, except for nausea, it benefits her so much. If she doesn't take it, I can tell right away. Her memory and thinking skills are much improved and I believe that Aricept has significantly slowed her progression, since she was first diagnosed around 3 years ago. She is still at home and can manage daily tasks fairly well, although she can no longer drive or do things like balancing a checkbook. She is 77 this year and hopefully will continue to have a slow progression of symptoms. One thing that continues to be a major problem though, is her loss of appetite. She has lost approx 45 pounds over the last year or so, so I'm worried about the effect this will have on her overall health. Aricept has been a godsend for us. Read More Read Less

wow- what a nasty drug...my father started on the lowest dose and started seeing Elvis perform in his room..then he began singing spiritual hymns all thru the nite. We figured we would give it more time, but the behaivor got worse. He wanted to put up the christmas tree so satan santa would stay away - he wanted to waltz with his beagle, Henry and then dress him up in a wedding gown. We finally stopped the med. crazy.

My Dad, 81, started 10 mg of Aricept at 6PM. He was throwing up and dizzy from 9PM to 9:30 AM the next morning. He fainted and cracked his head open at 10 AM. We spent the day in ER and the hospital. $15,000 later. ER said to stop the Aricept. We will never take that medication again.

Mom, 81 and midstage Alz, short term memory problems exacerbated by hip fracture 8/2008. Started on Aricept and then Namenda. First week on Aricept saw real loose bowel/heavy BM episodes, not pretty. After the higher dose of Aricept started real bad hallucinations/nausea/lightheaded/ER visit, talked with neuro and we stopped them both. Nasty with my Mom!

Not sure if the side effects are worse than the actual illness. Vomitting, diaarrhea, stomach pain, weak, sleep all the time, bad dreams, noises in the head and weight loss. Was told side effect for last up to 3 weeks but didn't think my mother would make it that long. Stopped pills. This was the second time to take Aricept. Would not recommend this pill. Don't think they know enough about it.

My 79 year old mother started on 5mg Aricept for Parkinsons, didn't seem to be a problem, until she was put on the 10mg, then all hell broke loose, vomitting, diarrhea, at the same time, stomach pain (severe),rectal bleeding, couldn't eat, got very weak, wanting to sleep most of the time, and I had to take her to the Emergency Room 5 times in a matter of 1 month, 2 of the times admitted, they couldn't figure out what was going on, sent her home, then I'd have to take her back within a couple of days, same severe stomach pain. I took her off the aricept before the last discharge from the Hospital. I took her for a test with her Gastro, and he didn't find anything to explain her condition, but since She has been off the aricept she is slowly gaining some strength back, and feeling alittle more hungry. I would rather have her back forgetting things than for her to have to go thru that again. Also found out my Mother's sister with Parkinsons was on aricept for a short time and had same symptoms, she took herself off, and is feeling better! So beware of Aricept, or you could be hit with a lot of Hospital bills!Read More Read Less

This DRUG is on the market for monetary profit for the drug reps, physicians, & pharmacist. My father was put on this drug by a doctor unnecessarily. He was a very intelligent person and very mobile for 8l years old. After being on this drug for about 3-4 weeks, he bacame immobile, weak, stopped eating and had to be hospitalized. Eventually, this drug helped along with another one led to his death. Please be very aware of any and all side effects of this drug if you or love ones are taking this drug.Read More Read Less

My Dad 71 years old had bypass surgery in 2005 just started taking this medication were told for early stage dimentia. For 1 week in that length of time his mobility is totally gone. He can't do anything for him self. He has uncontrollable urination and is now catheterized. His urologist say's to keep the catheter for 1 month and check back with him if the urination persist then I don't know what's the next step. I am completely against this medication in that length of time and will speak to the neurologist that perscribe this medication to him about changing it. Do not recommend! Read More Read Less
