My husband was prescribed Aricept back in November and it's improved his memory/confusion... I noticed in about 2 weeks that he wasn't as confused and had better recall. I know it's not a cure but it helps and it's very obvious right now.

Started my 80 year old mother on 5 mg aricept today. Very scared for her after reading so many of these posts. Very few, if any reflect positive results. Wondering why Dr.'s continue to prescribe this drug.

I took Aricept for about a year with no side effects for a mild memory problem. I saw a slight improvement. Toward the end of that year, I experienced an irregular heartbeat and shortness of breath over a period of weeks and wore a Holter monitor. I quit taking the Aricept and the heart problem ceased.

I have early onset Alzheimer's, moderate. Aricept 5 mg too much but it motivated me, able to complete tasks. Feels like end of LSD trip that goes on and on. Now, nightmares, anger, feel poisoned. Will quit soon. Using cannabis (medical marijuana) provides harmony, restful sleep, zero side effects. I think it was useful for 2 months, now is just a problem. Also doctor told me I did not need to take my supplements, 1 week later felt more unstable. Back on B complex sublingual, magnesium, curcumin. Melatonin 1 mg sublingual helps me sleep. Namenda was worse. I'm quitting Aricept after reviewing posts here. Thank you to those who made comments.Read More Read Less

My father aged 81 years has been on Aricep-10 mg for last 5 years. the drug has suited him but now oral nasal secretions have increased and are dripping.even eyes are watery. i have stopped the medication for last 10 days and the quantum of fluid dripping has considerably reduced. only my apprehensions are about the state of the gains as far as the disease is concerned

87 year old mother put on drug. She weighs 112 lbs - nausea and vomiting severe at the very start. Doctor wanted her to stop and restart 1/2 doseage. She is back to her old self (with the dementia) after stopping drug. We are not going to give it to her again - she was too sick - not a good drug.

My wife was diagnosed last year and started the drug in January at 10 mg and has felt reasonable better results in mental recall and cognitive activity. Some cramps; no nausea; a little more sleep but not much. She may move up to the 23 mg level soon. Not sure on any side effects for that. She is fully functional but misses things (sight) and forgets dates, etc. This is the disease, of course. Hopefully this med slows it all down. She is 69.

other than causing diareah, this was a waste of time and money, as is the time spent with g.p and neurologist, my next step is a trip to a gerontalogist

This medication put my mom in a mental psychosis. After 6 days, she had no clue who or where she was, very combative. Her eyes were fixed and dilated. We put her in hospital and sat with her for 48hrs until drug got out of system. It took her 2 months of physical and occupational therapy to get motor skills back.

I am the wife and caretaker of my husband with early onset Alzheimers. It is very difficult right now as he is in complete denial, but has depression and does not feel comfortable alone. He refuses to see a Neurologist. His primary MD started him on Aricept. It seems to help a little. I know the worse is yet to come. I am a retired RN so I have taken care of patients with this diagnosis. I hope I can have the strength and patience to see it thru. He is a retired teacher and it is sad now as he has difficulty remembering. What a horrible disease with no hope. It is difficult for me to stay supportive and care for him 24/7. He is 82 yrs. old.Read More Read Less

My mother, who is 79, was prescribed Aricept by her physician to slow her form of dementia. Within 3 days of taking this drug she was having delusions of people being in her house at night along with nausea during the day and night. Unfortunately, for my mom, it took 3 weeks of having 2 or more delusions a week, for us to realize maybe it could be the drug causing them. The fear I saw in her eyes when she thought she was losing her mind will never leave me. When I called her doctor he said to take her off the Aricept...the delusions stopped IMMEDIATELY. My advice is be careful and watchful in giving this drug to elderly loved ones. Read More Read Less

My father took 5 mg to start off. I was willing to try anything to help with the dementia. the first day i noticed zombie type behavior. i assumed it was his body getting use to it. Let's say after 4 days i threw it out. His behavior became more erratic. STAY AWAY from this drug! The reviews of POOR are accurate.

Giving my mother this medication was the worst decision I've ever made. I wish I had consulted online forums prior. The neurologist prescribed it, and despite the fact that our GP was strongly opposed to her taking it, I wanted to give it a try. Kids of Alzheimer's patients are almost desperate. Within 3 days my mother started acting like a crazy person. She went from highly agitated one minute to almost comatose the next. She put food in the oven (which she never did), turned it on and forgot about it. I had gone to the store for about 90 minutes and when I returned, the house was full of smoke, all the detectors were blaring and she sat on the couch watching TV as though nothing was happening. That was the last straw. She has done fine and continues to do fine with the Namenda. Be VERY careful about giving this drug to a loved one unless they are supervised 24/7 by someone who knows them well and the difference in behavior if observed. This drug SHOULD NOT be on the market. It is dangerous. Read More Read Less
