I was diagnosed with Parkinsons January 2010 and immediately put on Azilect. My initial symptoms was a thumb twitch and occasional hand tremor. At this point 2 years later, it has not progressed beyond the initial symptoms. The hand tremor is worse when under stress, if I get cold or position my hand a particular way. Is it the drug or do I just have a case of mild Parkinsons? I will continue on it as my results are wonderful.

I have been taking Azilect for 15 months. I and my doctor are very pleased that I have not gotten worse in this whole year. I wish I weren't so stiff and so very tired.

I have been taking this drug for nearly 1 year, and it has been very effective in treating the symptoms that were bothering me the most. The armswing is no longer restricted and the constant hand tremors have completely disappeared, with only an occasional hand or arm twitch still evident. The most frightening things were occasional episodes of complete disorientation, when I would lost awareness of where I was or what I was doing. These spells would last 30-60 seconds, and have now completely ceased. The only disturbing symptom still evident is an occasional slight balance problem. I am very happy with this medication, and so is my physician, who has pronounced my condition and progression as remarkable.Read More Read Less

My doctor prescribed Azilect when I developed an off-and-on tremor; she explained that it may not affect my tremor. One year later the tremor progressed to almost a permanent irritation; so I began taking Mirapex ER 1mg. After 3 months w/o improvement, I increased to Mirapex ER 3mg. After 1 month with no improvement I stopped taking the Azilect, and for 3 weeks I've felt better. This seems contrary to what most reviews suggest. Anyone have similar results?

As far as we know Azilect worked fine for around 6 months, then my husband started going numb on his left side. I did not associate this at first with the drug. I was reading over one of the printouts and saw this was one of the rare side effects. I showed it to our GP and he is taking him off gradually to see if the problem stops. He has one more week until he is off completely. I hope and pray that this solves the problem.

I believe this drug has slowed the progression of PD, must catch early to be effective.

Reduced moderate to severe shoulder pain. Seems to reduce tremors in my left side a bit, but still have them esp. under stress.

Using Azilect in combination with Mirapex seems to help reduce tremor in my left hand. Biggest concern with Azilect is the inability to use OTC cold meds because of possible severe interactions. Is any such OTC medication safe to take with an MAOI?

After 3 years of Azilect I am still mostly happy with it. Mostly only because it is an MAOI and cannot be taken along with many other drugs. Sometimes a decongestant would be nice, expescially when you have a cold.

After four years on Azilect I still have only mild resting or stress-related tremor in my hands and forearms. The only change is now the tremor is bilateral whereas it was one side when PD was first diagnosed. I have had no medication side effects other than weariness, which is resolved by a short afternoon nap. My PD exclusively neurologist says I have the slowest progress of any of his patients. It may be the Azilect only, but I also exercise regularly with the emphasis on strength, balance, and mobility. Read More Read Less

Newly diagnosed. this is my first drug andf I am pleased so far. Tremors and joint stiffness seem to have reduced considerably. Tremors only occur now towards the end of the day or when I am under a lot of presure. Main lingering problem is sleep interruption which is not caused by the drug but hasn't been helped either. I avoid sleep medications because I still work alot and my job requires alertness.

Just like another earlier user, my Parkinson's aggravated after Rasagiline, with lower limb freezing, and a perennial fear of falling, taking over me ever since the dose was titrated up to 1 mg/day. I am hardly able to walk, even though working on the exercise cycle has not been a problem. I seem to get painful muscle cramps every moment, that hinders me from walking. I seem to get bizarre thoughts and a feeling of insecurity, that I never had in the course of my disease since the past eight years. After perusing the existing reviews, noticing that there are others like me who have found the drug useless,I have decided to stop the drug, since, I feel that it has added to my problem.Read More Read Less

After my third month on Azilect I'm getting arrythmia and joint pain in my non PD wrist. As this drug's sole purpose is (allegedly) to slow progression, I'm not certain that I'll be staying on it given the side effects.
