Took 10 days of 500mg tablets for severe sinus infection (horrible swelling of my face around brow bones, under eyes), my worst infection of my sinus area in a very long time. I get an average of 2 sinus infections a year, due to malformation of the sinus glands. I have taken Levaquin before and never had a problem, so when I began to get these wierd side effects I looked for causes all over ...

It was effective in eradicating the infection, however, I had extreme nausea, vomiting, severe muscle pain, jointpain. I felt like the worst case of flu I've ever had. I also experience vivid nightmares and cold sweats. I completed the run of antibiotic, and was over the urinary infection, but the effects of the medicine took longer to wear off than the infection.

I am not for sure if its the infection its self of my type one diabetes---but my glucose has stayed high throughout the treatment---I highly recommend close monitoring---high glucose makes you feel even worse.

I had been feeling sick for 4 weeks before taking Levaquin and finally went to the doctor to get something for my cold. My doctor gave me Levaquin. On day three of taking it I couldn't walk and had so much pain in my joints. I felt like I had been beat with a stick.

I don't even know how this is allowed on the market. After my first dose I had the most vivid dreams I have ever had. For the first time I felt pain in my dream. My teeth getting kicked in, the wind getting knocked out of me. With the second dose, on the second night I experienced truly the most terrifying night of my life. The nightmares were so vivid, I cried and threw up in my sleep. I was afraid to be by myself, and I wouldn't let my husband turn off the lights. After getting out of bed, with sweat dripping, I stood in the shower and felt as if I had the flu. My muscles ached in my back, my legs, my arms. This is bad stuff. Please DO NOT take it...get a different prescription if you must.Read More Read Less

The med worked great on the problem, but the other problemthat it created was a night mare! I could no longer bend the joints in my knees after 2or 3 days of drug use, and the pain was excruciating. These effects have remained for two weeks so far. Though they are resolving slowly, I would rather have taken a different med! It is not worth this much pain!! Watch out!!

I was supposed to take 500mg of this drug for 14 days. I've made it to day 6 but finally called my doctor and asked for something else. It makes me incredibly lightheaded, anxious, and manic; I'm afraid to drive. The nausea is so bad, and appetite loss so severe, that I've lost four pounds in just five days. I'm starting to feel pain in my joints. I've never had a bad reaction to a drug before. Although this cleared up my sinuses, it's not worth the extra side effects. Go for a zpack or penicillin instead.Read More Read Less

Levaquin has caused me so much pain in my joints, knees, wrists, and ankles. I was in so much pain while on the meds that I couldn't get up or move without almost in tears. Now, 9 months later, I can feel my joints deteriating and in pain with the change of the weather. I just turned 30 with no health problems ever and I feel like I have the joints of someone with arthritis. I would NEVER suggest this medication to anyone. I have tried to get the word out to many people because it has caused me so much pain and I don't want anyone to feel it either. 100% of people who have taken it have had very similiar side effects that I have.Read More Read Less

I was on it intravenously for at least a week following abdominal surgery, presumably as a cautionary measure, because the hospital had had problems with with operating room and some patients had gotten staph infections, etc. Three or four days after the surgery I developed pancreatitis and became really ill. They took me off the antibiotic soon after this. I then developed a case of hives all over my body which persisted for almost 6 months, although it gradually diminished. During my recovery period I began to get severe pain in my lower legs. A year after the operation I was playing tennis and ruptures an achilles tendon, which took almost three years to heal. Now it is ok, but I have developed tendinitis in my feet. I suspect that the high doses of levaquin had something to do with this weakening of the tendons in my extremities.Read More Read Less

I had a terrible reaction to Levaquin. I started it on a Friday and by Saturday night I had diarrhea and my stomach and chest felt like it was on fire. I couldn't sleep and had strange half-dreams floating thru my head. I looked it up on WebMD, wanting to be sure it was the medicine and found others who felt the same way. I quit the drug immediately and it took several days to get back to normal. Don't take this drug!! Also, years ago I had the same reaction to Cipro...didn't know it was the same class drug. Thanks to all of you who reviewed this drug and shared your reactions. The doctor seems to believe I am exaggerating when I call him.Read More Read Less

Expensive. Even with my insurance! It's helped clear up the sinus infection after 5 days, but the bronchitis is taking much longer to clear up. Not feeling any better with the bronchitis, however I can now breath out of my nose again!

I had a severe and rare allergic reaction to this medication involving involuntary tremors, full body bloating, nausea, abdominal pain. Only after ending up in the emergency room thinking I had a new problem did I find out that this medication was the cause of these symptoms. It has been 3 days since I stopped taking Levaquin and I am still trembling, bloated, nauseated and in pain.

No problems and it was effective. I was very tired at first but I attribute this to the infection rather than the medication.

I have taken it 3 times for UTIs. Each time, it made my mouth and tongue develop huge white blisters that were painful and took weeks to go away after the course of treatment. I lost 9 lbs in 6 days the first time this happened because I couldn't stand to let anything touch my tongue. Since I am diabetic, it was hard to control my blood sugar. I told my doctor to never prescribe it again.

I have been used Levaquin 500 mg for a week for a supposed infected gland. The pills were huge and during that time I had nausea, stomach pain, insomnia and strange dreams and nightmares. Not only did I have those side effects but the infected gland got bigger and my arm pain worsened. I'm 17 and not even supposed to have this medication. I don't know why my doc prescribed it...
