I have been unable to take any of the osteoporosus drugs for the past several years. Reclast is working for me both as an easier application, once a year, and better health. One thing I have noticed is that my fingernails no longer break and are becoming hard. The same with my toenails. I took Reclast 2 months ago and so far so good. My veins are very tiny and hard to find so I take the IV in...

i had one dose of reclast. My symptoms scared me. I had a headache, treated with tylenol. My joints were screaming the second day. My jaw locked. The third day my eyeballs swelled to the point I couln't close my eyes. I am due in one month for the second dose. I also am hae]ving bone density done in two days. Depending what it shows determines if I go through with reclast again.

I had a very good experience with this medication. I am not able to take any of the other medications due to complications. My physician explained all the risks and benefits prior to my infusion. The only problem I had was a slight fever the next day and I am not certain it was from the medication or the start of a cold I caught from my family. I will see how well it works in a few weeks after some tests.

after years of actonel/fossamx meds for my osteoporosis, we decided to try the reclast iv. i also have ibs and at any given time some stomach issue. however, i had the iv in nov.08 and other than the "flu like" symtoms the mentioned, and that were helped with tylenol. i have not had any other problems. i wont have another bone density test till next fall, so we really wont know how effective it may or may not be. but the inconvenience of taking the actonel/fossamx was just too much for me and after years on one or the other of these, there was NO improvement of my osteo. i am hoping the reclast shows some improvement. i marked the stars in the effectiveness boxes because i could not submit, but i have no idea how effective it may or may not be.Read More Read Less

Last year I started to notice a lot of hair loss. After the 2nd infusion two months ago, the hair loss continues. Do we have to choose between hair loss and bone loss?

I had been on once-a-month Boniva therapy for about 6 months. Although he never really explained why, the doctor suggested that I have the (once-a-year) Reclast injection. When I was referred to this doctor I listed each and every health problem I had as well as every medication I was taking. Despite the fact I had these problems he never warned me of the intensity of the pain and/or side-effects I would have to endure after this treatment. I take Nexium for a hiatal hernia, and also have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which causes pain in my lower abdomen due to the formation of gas from eating certain foods, stress, etc. I also have osteoarthritis in my spine. Six days ago I received the Reclast injection. As soon as the injection was administrated I was told by the nurse that my “bones would ache for a couple of days." If anyone is considering this treatment I would suggest they talk to their doctor at great length, and go over every health problem they are dealing with and the medications they are taking for these conditions before making their decision. I now endure intense back pain almost constantly as well as nausea, severe gas, bloating, stomach and lower bowel pain six days later. I purchased anti-gas pills at the pharmacy which help somewhat after my evening meal. I discontinued taking my arthritis medication because it can cause more stomach pain so I take Tylenol a couple of times a day, but it still doesn‘t help the back pain. I am dealing with the problem as best I can, but I would not recommend Reclast injections it to anyone if they have arthritis, a hiatal hernia or IBS! From my personal experience I can state that I am very dissatisfied with the Reclast injection therapy. Read More Read Less

like several others, i was not given good instruction before the iv was run. i imagine being very well hydrated and having taken a good amount of calcium prior to beginning the treatment might have been helpful. now, almost two weeks have passed and i feel pretty normal. now, it's just wait and see what the dxa says in 9 monghts. like others, the day after i was very sick...flu-like pain and nausea that was very severe...i would have gone to the er if i could have. the next day the pain was still very bad. again, now, almost two weeks have passed and i feel pretty normal. now it's just wait and see.Read More Read Less

My ribs all felt as thouugh they had been broken, front and back. could not take a deep breath because of pain in ribs, breastbone. Ibuprofen would not touch it. could not lay down, roll over, get up etc without assistance. i have to go back to work Monday morning. sunday evening I am feeling a little better, but I would not do this again. pain worse than c-section, shingles, knee surgery. My 65y/o mother had her first infusion last March, and it has been a nightmare ever since. She began with weakness, pain, jaw pain, and fatigue. In October, she started with swelling in her eyes, face, and hands and feet. She has been to several doctors, including 5 specialists at Mayo. Everyone admits that there is something wrong, but it is not their department. Of course, nobody will admit it is from this drug. This drug is nasty and should have never been put on the market. She is suffering everyday and had to take a leave from her job in November.Read More Read Less

My doctor recommended this medication because I could not tolertate any other osteoporosis medication, but after reading these postings, I rejected the idea. However, after three bone breaks in three years and one concomitant surgery, I went ahead with the infusion. For two days thereafter, I had flu-like symptoms but then felt fine. I had some serious hip pain but that could have been a coincidence since I occasionally suffer from a pinched sciatic nerve. That too is now gone, and I'm back to speed walking 6 miles 6 days per week and lifting weights. While I don't negate the horrible side effects experienced by some of these reviewers, I'm glad that in the end I listened to my doctors instead. However, I'm not yet able to attest to the efficacy of this medication until I have another bone scan.Read More Read Less

I am 53 years old and was told that the side effects of this medication were some muscle and bone pain. If I had known then what I know now there is no way I would have ever taken this medication. It feels as though every bone in my body has been fractured. I am at risk of loosing a job that I love because I have been out for so many days. I wasn't told about drinking water before or after and I probably thought what many of you did. If a drug company can put out a medication that causes this much harm I would have had to sign my life away to be able to receive it. I have had more warning for ibuprophin than with this medication. I regretfully think now that had I stayed with the once every three months medication it would have taken four hours out of my year as opposed to the 3 weeks this med has already taken and it is not over yet. Please consider this when trying to make the decision to receive this treatment.Read More Read Less

I am 56 years old, with osteoporosis. One month ago, I had the Reclast IV injection. The first 4 days were fine, no symptoms. By the 5th day my jaw hurt so bad that it hurt to talk or eat. That lasted about two weeks. I also have blurred vision still to this date. After about two weeks, I started having severe heartburn, and spasms of my esophagus. I hope there is no permanent damage to my jaw, vision, or esopahgus. I will not take this drug again, as it seems I am one of the one out of ten who have some of the bad side effects.Read More Read Less

Had an infusion of Reclast yesterday at 11 am. No side effects so far a full day later. I must say that some of the reviews made me very apprehensive, but oral treatment affects my digestion and don't work. So, the lesser of evils idea prevails and I had it done. Can't tell yet if it works, but I feel well and have none of the reactions described in negative reviews. Perhaps they will come later. I'll put up with a lot to avoid increasing osteoporosis. If any bad effects occur, I'll add another review.Read More Read Less

Less than 8 hours after infusion I had the worst chills in my life. I even broke a tooth from the teeth chattering during the first night. It held a bridge that it no longer can hold. For the past 6 weeks I have had pain in my lower back and legs, constant and extreme hot spells and chills. I have been unable to function and had to retire from work. I have left the house only to go to the hospital, doctor's office and dentist. My dentist is unable to replace my broken tooth and bridge and says I now need dentures; but he tells me that no local dental surgeon will pull my teeth because I have had the Reclast. I was not told to have dental checkup before the infusion, as I now know is recommended (my dentist said that he would have vetoed it), nor was I told to drink water beforehand. A few years ago I had a triple bypass. It was a much better experience than taking Reclast. Read More Read Less
