Went from 80 degree curvature to nearly normal. At time of injections had severe bruising and swelling. Went away in a few days. Three injection times separated by several weeks.

Had the injections on 10/22/15. My doctor is the only practitioner in the state of Vermont administering Xiaflex. He does about sixty procedures annually. Two cords were injected and I went back two days later for the manipulation of my fourth and fifth fingers on my right hand. The injections were moderately painful, but the Novocain injections administered before the manipulation were quite painful. My cords did not snap – the doctor said they were like pulling taffy. At almost three weeks post treatment my fingers bleed at the connection point to my hand every time I do the hand exercises, and both fingers are still quite discolored. Every day I can use my hand a little more confidently, but I have quite a bit of stiffness at the knuckle in my little finger. My little finger went from a forty-five degree angle to a twenty-three angle and my ring finger went from about twenty degree angle to zero degrees. As long as the bleeding stops, the discoloration disappears and my hand returns to its full use – then I’d say it was worth it. Please follow the post treatment therapy exercises and wear your brace while you sleep.Read More Read Less

9 out of my 10 fingers are contracted. Had NA 5 out of the last 6 years. Two weeks ago I had 2 vials for my right hand 2,3,4, fingers (the pinky was destroyed by an orthopedic dr.) Dr. Pess sprayed my hand and then injected my wrist and palm with lidocaine. The injections of Xiaflex was no big deal. My arm became bruised from the tips of my fingers up and through my armpit. I went back a week later and he snapped (wow did they crack!) the fingers making them all straight. Now a week later most of the bruising is gone but they are still somewhat swollen. Also had some ripping of skin and bleeding. I do have what appears to be cord (lymph system) beneath my armpit that was not there prior to the Xiaflex injection. When I stretch my right arm I feel tightening from my forearm up to my armpit. I hope that will go away. Both of my hands open and close as if they had glue in them. I will say this: find a real good dr. if you are going to have this done. I had a doctor do NA (orthopedic hand specialist) that didn't know where to do the NA. Dr. Pess in NJ is meticulous, a real expert in Dupytren's. Read More Read Less

My doctor, who happens to be a plastic and hand surgeon, injected my hand 5 times in two cords. There was swelling and bruising but only in the hand. He did not open it for 5 days when he did 3 openings. The skin split but I had some physio the next day and wore a splint at night. Did physio 3 times total and the splint people sent me home without one because I am doing so well. I do exercises everyday and massage to get rid on a bump that is still going away. I still have some soreness in the hand but I have not used it much for about 7 years. I am very pleased.Read More Read Less

Injection was very near the dominate hand's thumb in the thumb/forefinger web space. I did this to postpone the removal of those collagen plaques in the web space of thumb/forefinger in my dominate hand. Edema set in the hand big time when the cord snapped the very evening after the injection. Good thing I took off those two days from work for the hand was so swollen the second and third day after the injection. (I also had the weekend bonus - so 4 days off.) The lymph nodes in the dominate right arm's armpit were involved for 3 days. Lymph nodes in the knee on the same hand's side were involved. This "ain't" surgery, but, it is invasive. Please consider hard about enzyme injections. If you have this disease in your feet, it could affect with those existing nodules, too, on the side of your Xiaflex injection. It has happened to me. All told, if the dominate hand is affected with the thumb/forefinger webspace, it might be a ticket to stop the pain of thumb use. I had the injection 6 days ago, and I'm already noticing that I can handle the car steering wheel with no pain. Read More Read Less

bad management of post-treatment experience. Doctor and website not trustworthy. Injection (10 ) in cord. v. painful. Hand, arm. lymph nodes swelled. Hand not functional first week. Occupational therapy helpful - and much more realistic about recovery. Now 3 weeks later , hand is swollen, stiff with some trigger points causing pain. Functionality in some ways better, someways worse. Hand has a lot of never-endings - some damage to be expected. It will recover. There will always be a range of body reactions but I am offended and handicapped by the inappropriate - almost delusional information I was given by surgeon - and the Endo Xiaflex website is a fuzzy, marketing mess.Read More Read Less

My husband had two sets of injections for his 4th and 5th finger. Within 2 days, his whole arm became purple with pain under his armpit. The next day, he had bruising all around his chest. He called his Doctor with no response. Almost 2 weeks after his injection he had a blood clot go to his heart. He said goodbye to me. Luckily, the fire truck, ambulance and cardiac unit were fast and did a successful angioplasty. Time is tissue with a heart attack. His pain was horrible with multiple rounds of morphine. Did the blood clot come from all the bruising? Again, my husband called his Doctor and, again, no response. I was almost a widow and we were rewarded with thousands in medical bills mixed with terrifying fear memories. Also, the 5th finger was a total bust...worse than before. We will do the traditional surgery this time.Read More Read Less

Xiaflex injection was done by a doctor who was in on a study. She has used Xiaflex fifty times. The procedure was painful the way she move that syringe around trying to get all the lumps around the cord for my little finger. She did say that physical therapy exercises are VERY important for a successful outcome and that I need to use a palm splint at night time four months to keep my fingers straight. I have been concerned about swelling, but it's not an infection because there is no heat at the area, just a lot of bruising. Read More Read Less

There was a slight improvement but it did not last long. After a few months I am back to the same angle of contracture that I had before: ~45 degrees. That may not seem so bad, but it is if you are a professional keyboard. My doctor did not opt for a second injection--his reason was simply his assumption/belief that a second injection wouldn't help.

I have had multiple surgeries for Dupuytrens, culminating in the loss on the pinkie finger. This has to be a viable alternative. For me, a very painful experience. But don't let that stop you. Pain was from injections, thereafter its just a throbbing, day 2-3 things eased up. Nodule disappeared, 12 months on, all good. Finger remains stiff at knuckle, but no lump. Just had second injections for another nodule. I'm hopeful for similar results.

I had the shot in my pinky three weeks ago. Super painful. Second day Doc Manipulated pinky but no apparent snap of the cord even though he tried very hard. Pinky straightened only about 10 degrees. Still can't put hand flat on table. Cord in palm still tight. No apparent improvement and still sore. So far very marginal improvement. Thinking about a second shot but probably won't do it. I also have peyronies and based on this would not consider xiaflex treatment

I posted on 5-9-14 about my experience. Here is an update. It is now Sept, 6 months after xiaflex injection and the palm of my hand and pinkie finger are still black and blue. When I golf it becomes completely purple, there is still pain especially when I try to chop food, use a scissors, knit or sew. and the Doctor says there is nothing that can be done. I just don't know where to turn for help. If anyone has any ideas please post. Thanks

The injection of Xiaflex was quite painful. I did get a degree of swelling and had the contracture split after the second day by minipulation. I now sleep with a splint and will have hand therapy once a week for 3-4 weeks. The degree of pain was more than expected but it beat surgury. After 6 days I do have some soreness in my palm but it better than stiches. The video on the Xiaflex web site should be somewhat more honest as to what you expect, my hand surgeon warned me so. I would use the Xiaflex if needed in the future. I only wish I was not awake for the injection as well as the novocain injection for the manipulation (snapping of the cord). Read More Read Less

this drug/injection did not work at all and was an expensive waste of time & money. After the fact my doctors'office personnel told me they have had many people state it is ineffective. Surgery or another method is my future solution.

I have had surgery, NA treatments, and now Xiaflex - one week ago yesterday. I still have MINIMAL bruising, NO swelling, and range of motion beyond expectation. My Dupuytrens was limiting me in daily activities, but now I can do most things. I have a little pain when I make a fist, but it is worth is as the ROM improves Daily. I will wear a night splint for a month. I recommend this treatment.
