I was at first very hesitant at trying this drug after reading the comments about the sexual side effects but I decided to take the drug I'm glad I did have been taking for about two months my trips to the bathroom at night went from five or more to two it does take a while to work and no side effects I have not noticed any sexual side effects from this drug so far I'm am 55 years old I had been taking flowmax it was great at first but stopped working for me I hope this helps

I have been on finasteride for well over 15 years. It stopped my hair loss. I don't if I have actually grown any new hair, but I have not lost any more hair. I started taking it early on during my hair loss so I believe that played a role in how effective it has been for me. I am very happy with the results. The only drawback for me is there are sexual side effects - it does reduce your ability to ejaculate.

Reduced PSA from 8.1 to 5.2 after taking for 6 months. Dr. wants the number lower. Did not have trouble urinating to start. Loss of sex drive, no semen, weight gain, 180lbs to 200lbs. 2 biopsies with 16 core samples taken and both came back negative. If the PSA does not go down more will have an MRI of the prostate done.

I have used this drug for over 10 years. Started to get a receding hairline in my mid 20's so I began the drug to stop the hairloss. I didn't really regrow my hairline, but it did stop/slow the process of losing my hair. I have lost no hair at the crown which I think is because of the finasteride being that I ham in my mid thirties now. I started taking this medication a little over a year ago. It seems to stop further hair loss and I see very small hairs trying to grow if I look closely. No side effects to note. I think I will be looking at a hair follicle transplant maybe. I heard its not too expensive and I would see results immediately. Sexual drive seems to be the same. Erections seems to be the same. The hair growth I have seen is NOT significant but maybe another year it will be more noticeable, hopefully.

I have been taking this medication 3 months now. So far, it has stopped the balding patterns in their tracks, but I cannot tell whether or not my hair is growing back. It is too early to tell. I have had no unfavorable side effects.

The only side effects that I seem to have are sexually related. I have always had an extremely high libido, "blue steel" erections, and normal ejaculation (quantity at least). Even at 54, I was able to enjoy sex more than once a day. Now, libido has diminished, erections aren't satisfying to my partner, and although I still can have an orgasm, there isn't enough semen to notice. In fact, my partner actually questioned whether I tried to "fake" an orgasm. Not sure that I'm willing to sacrifice that part of my life and personality, just to pee a few less times....will consult with urologist and see if there is a solution. Hey, at 70.... My prostate is normal size again and I have only one side effect. To that, the guy on the radio in the Florida Keys refers to his "ying-yang" saying: "When it's gone...it's gone. I ain't taken no pills to make it go again." I agree, and won't be taking Viagra.

I have been suffering for years with enlarged Prostate. Recently I was in the hospital with CHF and on diuretics. I finally got the doctor's attention about how painful every urination was and he put me on Finasteride. It took about 3 weeks to start working but WOW, what a difference it has made. I can again urinate in large amounts, instead of dribbling; I only get up once at night instead of 3 or 4 times, and it allowed me to lose 70 lbs. quicker by making the diuretics more affective.

prescribed 5mg for enlarged prostate to keep from getting larger over time. started ok, have been on it about 21 days. Got rash and lumps on my head.. maybe related maybe not. Have had severe testicular and scrotum pain and swelling for three days. NP told me to discontinue use, nothing else they can do. No lack of libido or erection. No decrease in ejaculate. Not worth the pain though... I'm done with it!

Have taken for 6 months for BPH. Diagnosed with prostate cancer 2 years previous. BPH and erectile problems for 8 years {unable to maintain an erection more than 5 min.) Was added by doctor and have been on Terazosin for 5 years, which worked. Doctor added to lower PSA>> has gone from 8 to 3.6! Using Viagra for 2 years and everything works fine! NO SIDE EFFECTS. None I am noticing. Only side effects are from Viagra, occasional headache, upset stomach, sinus problems.

No sex drive,shrinkage of sex organs,moody,Libio gone,Dr. says too bad, take it for the rest of your life.Going off drug this week,cant take,even my breasts,are tender, awful, someone needs to help us out here ?

Have been taking about a year. Slight improvement with frequency of urination, no real improvement with low urine flow/urge "to go". Decreased sex drive, ED issues, decreased semen volume. Going to discontinue for a couple of months and hope to get my mojo back.

My mouth and tongue fill like they are raw and blistered.....can this be caused by this medicine??? Has any body ever had this reaction?

Took it for about 20 days. So-so results, compared to Flomax, but had intense (scary) bleeding from penis after sex. Just saw my urologist and he said "sometimes that happens with finasteride". Anybody else? I'm done with it.

I am 59 and taking this drug for an enlarged prostate. After taking for 45 days, I see no affect on the reduction of night urination frequency and have low to no ejaculate. Erection is not a problem. I am going to cease the drug and see if the symptoms stay the same or worsen. Since there is no evidence of the enlarged prostate causing peostate cancer, the inconvenience of frequent urination urgency is a welcome trade-off to loss in sexual function. Take away my sex and take away my life!

Started receiving negative reports and confirmed side effect that the doctor dismissed when I requested to try another medication
