I was prescribed Brilinta following a heart attack (cardiac arrest)and the placement of 3 stents. I had no side effects that I could attribute to this medication. Effectiveness? All I can say is I have had no further heart issues in the 15 months following. My cardiologist stopped the medication after one full year.

I tolerated this med for 5 months following stent placement. Was warned about the bruising and bleeding. Month 6 this drug turned on me and the anziety and shortness of breath about took me down. I saw the cardiologist and he replaced with Plavix. Only 5 months left and I can get off the thinners.

I have been on this medication for about 2 months. For the last 3 weeks I have found myself frustrated with constant joint aches and lower back pain. I thought it was from the cardiac rehab I am doing but I have stiffness and discomfort not just in my legs but also neck, shoulders, elbows. My lower back is the most frustrating of all because I should be feeling great from dropping 30lbs and being able to ride the stationary bike for 45 mins at a medium level without losing my breath. Instead I am walking feeling stiff and with fear my back will give out. I hope the bigger goal is worth all this misery.Read More Read Less

I started taking this drug in July after having 2 DES stents placed. For the next 30 days had a rash everywhere and severe roving joint pain. I had no other alternative because I couldn't take Plavix. I hung in there hoping the side effects would subside. After 4 weeks they did but I still have the easy bruising that is apparent in the large purple spots on my body. Cardiologist says there is evidence that 6 months may be long enough so I am hoping to only have 4 months left to then be started on natural blood thinners. Read More Read Less

5 months ago I had 2 stents put in my left circumflex artery, it was 100% blocked. The following week after the procedure I felt great, like a kid again! But after I was prescribed Brilinta that all changed. I now have shortness of breath, feel tired all the time and have no appetite. I've lost 15 pounds and have no motivation to work. I need to find an alternative drug soon !!

From the beginning of taking this I was short of breathe then after a week or two kept gasping for air the instant I went to sleep. I took Titrolac (which is no longer made, like tums) because I read this is a symptom of girds and sure enough it helped instantly, I can sleep again and it almost eliminated the shortness of breathe. But today abpout 6 weeks in I am weak as a kitten and terribly light headed. I too am very sensitive to Plavix and Effient after taking them over periods of time with gradually worsening side effects..but different. I am considering talking to my doctor about rotating all three as to alleviate the gradual toxicity each one presents.Read More Read Less

What a horrid drug this is. I had taken clopidogrel(Plavix) before and had no problems, but the D.r who placed my stent was all excited about Brilinta. I requested that I be put on clopidogrel but he sent me home with this drug. Within a day I was short of breath. Within two days I was also extremely dizzy and failing faint. I wasn't sure if it was a post-stent side effect so I waited 3 horrible weeks for my next appt with my actual cardiologist, who was not the same person as the interventionist who placed the stent. He immediately recognized the symptoms as associated with Brilinta. He took me off of Brilinta and put me back on clopidogrel -- and my symptoms disappeared. I wasted 3 weeks of my life because of this terrible medication.Read More Read Less

I received 5 stents and 4 angioplasty's within 7 days in April 2013. Two years later, I'm still pleased to be alive but all the dye from those angios nearly shut down my kidneys. Back to 50% function but diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy. Have experienced alarming shortness of breath, and often wonder if I'm going to have another heart attack. Didn't realize that shortness of breath was so common. I have to carefully consider all activity and originally thought the shortness was asthma. I do have asthma too so I treat that, but it doesn't help the shortness of breath. Also get really tired after minimal work, even just vacuuming the house. Seeing my cardiologist again next week and we will discuss all this. I'd rather be on Brilinta than anything less effective, but I need reassurance that it's the right med for me. had 10th stint put in mar 10 and started brilinta to prevent blood clots. was told to take it easy, with no lifting more than 10 pds for a week. i noticed i was short winded and a constant headache. my asthma doctor suggestion changing from advair to symbicort and the headaches stopped. i started walking on day 8 slowly and managed 3/4 of a mile. today mar 21 i am walking 2 miles. i do get a little light headed if i get up too fast, diarrhea and short winded at times. truthfully brilinta is working better for me than the 5 years of plavix. at least i can have grapefruit againRead More Read Less

This medication along with the aspirin that my cardiologist had me taking caused severe bruising. At the beginning I was taking Brilinta, aspirin, and over the counter Niocene. Within 2 weeks I had started having nose bleeds and bloody black stools. I had to stop taking the aspirin and only take the Brilinta and Niocene. Then after a year my insurance company would not cover this medication and I switched to clopidogel.

Double drug eluting stent in March, 2014... coming up on 1 yr on Brilinta. Started on Plavix resulting in severe heartburn... no such result on Brilinta. Shortness of breath is a factor but could be from other factors. In general, happy with my tolerance of this drug. Wonder tho', if there has been a "Brilinta Rebound effect" after stopping the med. similar to the "Plavix Rebound" which has been suggested in some studies. Can't find any info on this. Notice there is a recent study suggesting Brilinta be used for 2 years, rather than 1, after a drug eluting stent. Plan to ask my Cardiologist about this.Read More Read Less

3 years ago I had a heart attack (thought it was heartburn) 2 stents were put in an artery that apparently split from plaque build up (I used to smoke and drink, a lot sometimes). 2 days later I was getting exhausted walking around the hospital. they went back in and put another stent between the original 2, because it clotted between them (also put 1 stent in another artery while they were in there. started with Plavix for about 6 months--Doctor switched me to Brilinta--said it quits working faster in case of any future procedures. slight breathing problems, but I also have mild COPD. A mild nosebleed rarely. Also take low dose aspirin. I take 1 90 mg. brilinta in the morning, and 1 in evening--Doc says I need double because I clotted between the stents. I have had no serious problems--am very satisfied....Read More Read Less
