I have lived most of my life in sunny Florida, Georgia, California, and Texas and would spend all my time outdoors if it were possible. So I realize I am just paying for past lack of diligence in protecting Scottish skin. This is my second round with Fluorouracil, 5%. The first time I treated only the back of my hands and the skin is now soft with just some age spots. The whole process took...

I can only describe its use as pure hell. Imagine putting your head in a fire ant nest and you will come close to feelings I've experienced. At times I've been unable to function; driving I've even had to pull over and stop. I could go on, but this is enough for you to get the impression. I'm sure it performs its intended function, but that needs to be on someone besides me!

Right now on day 8 of 14 plan. I only had 2 small scaly spots on my face to begin with, but many, many red spots that I didn't know I had showed up after taking Fluorouracil. Burns slightly when I apply twice a day, but that's about all ... except I look like I have a bad case of the measles. Hope it works as planned.

Am 13 days into a 14 day treatment. Am hoping that the end result will be worth the discomfort and inconvenience. I look like I should be quarantined, and have ben asked numerous times if I have the chicken pox. I am treating only my forehead, as Dr. chose to freeze off the lower areas of pre-cancer. So...I had about 12 blister burns below forehead and the Fluoroucil has my forehead looking raw, blistery and now oozing and scabbing. Very humbling experience when you can't go into hiding for a month. Sucking it up and hoping the end results in another month of healing are worth it. Hard to sleep at night due to burning sensation. Was hoping to see pictures posted somewhere to help me know whether I'm supposed to look this horrible! Maybe another site...Read More Read Less

First week was not bad, the mild reaction was expected. Then lots of red patches occurred on both arms so I went to doctor on day 11 to make sure it was ok. Dr said to keep going, looked fine. On day 14 today, noticed patches have turned brown, not as noticable, hope it means getting closer to the end. Can't imagine using this on my face. Got uncomfortable burning itching and slight peeling of face just from rubbing and scratching nose with the topical residue on hands after applying. Can't imagine what full strength would be like. Used on left forehead and temple area. Finished 3rd week and many more red spots have shown up than before starting treatment. I have no open sores but very red spots that itch. If this works as expected it is worth the discomfort so far.

I was advised to use the cream on my nose to clear up a tiny red spot on my nose. I am on day 15 of a 21-day treatment 2x per day. My nose is now covered with a red burning rash, along with my upper lip which I decided to treat at the same time as a precautionary move. This is extremely uncomfortable but I am glad it is doing the job it is supposed to do. Hopefully no more Mose treatments on my face. Applying cold cloths or ice packs helps relieve some of the burning and itching.

The whole process took about 3 weeks. This time I am doing my whole face and ears. This one took more planning. I am taking 3 weeks off work to go underground until my skin starts healing. Right now I am on day 8 of 21 days, 2x per day. Already getting lots of red splotches of carcinoma that I had no idea I had. The red spots are already feeling blistered and they hurt a little in a hot shower. Best to do this in a cool time of year and mild temperature showers. Cold water splashes help a lot. I anticipate the splotches will get very red and may even open up my skin as bad cells come off and are replaced with healthy skin. I am determined to get through this with a sense of humor and some beautiful new skin. Other posts are inspirational. Thank you.Read More Read Less

Those on this site who are complaining about this drug should have to experience repeated bouts of mohs surgery, especially on the face. That takes months to heal and is a complex process. This is a great drug and should be prescribed easily. With all due respect to doctors, anyone who has done a lot of sun, especially baby boomers, needs to start treatment with this rather than let their skin go to skin cancer, full blown. The only problem with this treatment is that it is not used enough and dermatologists, especially, as Oboma said (! and whether you agree with everything he said) let things go and then charger you more. Remember: it's your life. Skin cancer kills.Read More Read Less

applied to entire face 2x a day for 10 days. First 5 - 6 days, no side effects. Day 7 thru 10 redness, tenderness, felt like a sunburn. It is pulling spots up that I didn't even realize was there. I am 4 days post application. Starting to scab and itch. Hoping this means I am healing. I think it is working for me and I will be more careful in the future. I did sleep more than usual, almost felt like flu symptoms. No appetite.

I had used this on my face successfully but unfortunately used it mistakenly on my genital area instead of a jock itch med. I used it for a few days until my wife looked and told me I was using the wrong med. I am in agony - saw the derm and he told me to use cold compresses and medication he gave me but this is excrutiating. This morning I also called 911 - if anyone reads this and can make any suggestions to me, please post here. I will try anything and am now calling for a pain medication.

First two weeks applying med was good. Third week burning raw feeling. Then chest stabbed over. Burned and itched like crazy. Scabs came off. Now red and burning again. Not sure if this is suppose to happen a few times till it heals. Wakes me up at nice. I have been using neosporin and that helps as well as icing my chest. Wish I knew how long it takes to heal completely.

Just starting the third week. My face is red and looks like I have measles. First week wasn't bad at all. Second week, burning, painful and loss of sleep. Hope 3rd week doesn't get any worse.

I am in day 8 of 16 for treatment for worshiping the sun as a young woman, the redness is getting very red, and sore to touch, hopefully it heals faster than it took to do the process, I cant go to interviews or meeting without people thinking I have some disease, hope it is well worth it. And in the future I will wear hats and sunscreen. I will rerate this process when completed

I used this twice a day on my face a year ago. It was very painful; but the end result was fantastic. My doctor has not removed or frozen any cancer on my face for a year! I am on day 6 of using twice a day on my forearms and hands. Yes, it hurts; but I'm hoping for great results. I can already see how much cancer it is bringing to the surface. My advice: try to tough it out through the burning. It's worth it!

I am on day 14 of using this product on my complete face. It was to get rid of pre-cancerous, sun-damaged cells. First week, nothing. Second week, redness like a bad sunburn. Later part of week, lots of dark spots, scabbing, very painful and itchy. On Day 12, there is minimal swelling, and it's harder to open my mouth wide to eat (it stretches the burned skin). Even though I've been very careful not to get in my eye area, my eyes are still runny, and now puffy. It's painful to sleep at night, as I like to sleep on my side, but can't sleep on painful skin. It was great for Halloween last night, as I didn't have to wear a costume! Face looks absolutely TERRIBLE, and I'm worried people will think I have Ebola or some other terribly catching disease. I've been keeping a low profile to avoid people in general. See my doctor in 4 days and hopefully he will tell me to stop and I can start healing. I am very hopeful for good results and that this will possibly repel any skin cancer. Looking forward to healing! Read More Read Less

I used this on my nose a surrounding areas due to sun damage and keratosis. Nothing for the first two weeks. After that, for the next two weeks, my skin got very red, sore and scaly until it peeled off. The result was great. I applied the cream twice a day. It doesn't look like it is working for the first two weeks. After that it hurts and looks bad but you need to stick with it. A week or so after the last application you will notice a huge difference. My nose never looked better (lol). I am now using it on my forehead and the sides of my face. I'm three weeks into it and am having the exact same experience and expect the same great results. This is good stuff. Read More Read Less

I am doing my fore arms twice a day. It took many days to see any reaction at all. Then my skin blasted bright red spots with small swellings. No pain ever. scabbing started at about 14 days. After 18 days my arms look much better. Scabs are getting smaller, the redness reduced. I feel very good about doing this. It has been much easier than I anticipated. Next my Dr. is having me do my whole chest & several spots on my face. That might be a different experience as the skin seems to be thinner, not sure! Read More Read Less

Not sure how to rate this drug yet. I just finished 14 days of .5%, daily use. I have sore, burning, bright red, and pealing face and chest. I also have some scabs on my chest. I did go to work one day this week and in the clinic where I work, nurses told me it looked like the measles and I should be sure to tell people it was not contagious. I tried to calm it down with Aloe Vera Gel, but that really burned. I have not had a re-check to get any relief from these symptoms. I have been using asprin for pain. Read More Read Less

Cannot figure out how to revise or edit my earlier post, so I write again. After some quick searching, I find the Mayo Clinic recommends a 5% cream for those with skin cancer. If I had cancer, I cd be persuaded to do this, but I presented with one small rough patch, for which the Mayo recommends 0.5% or 1%. This makes sense now, as it seems I've been taking 5 or 10 times the correct dose. I look like a blast victim and the itching is very serious. I can hardly open my mouth to eat for fear of splitting open at the corners of my mouth. DermNet NZ calls this a "powerful destructive medication" and they're right. Please take the time to find out which dosage is correct for your condition. You can always move up from 0.5% or 1%, but once you get going on 5%, you're in for a lot of grief if you're putting it on your face. Good Luck and Be Careful! Read More Read Less

I just completed 2 weeks of twice daily applications to my lips. Had a squamous cell on my lip removed 3 months ago by a MOHS surgeon, he suggested I do this treatment as he saw very damaged skin from the biopsy, actinic chellitus is what he called it. I hope it works, but too soon to tell. I did have the results he prepared me for, blisters, oozing, pain, itchy, dry lips. I use a lot of aquafor! there is one spot that did not peel off yet so he had me do 5 extra days, hope this works!
