I have lived most of my life in sunny Florida, Georgia, California, and Texas and would spend all my time outdoors if it were possible. So I realize I am just paying for past lack of diligence in protecting Scottish skin. This is my second round with Fluorouracil, 5%. The first time I treated only the back of my hands and the skin is now soft with just some age spots. The whole process took...

I can only describe its use as pure hell. Imagine putting your head in a fire ant nest and you will come close to feelings I've experienced. At times I've been unable to function; driving I've even had to pull over and stop. I could go on, but this is enough for you to get the impression. I'm sure it performs its intended function, but that needs to be on someone besides me!

On day 11 of 14 day single daily dose treatment on my upper chest. My doctor indicated that if there was no abnormal cells, I would have no reaction. Well, who knew! My chest is completely crusted over the itching is almost unbearable, but I am staying with it. I didn't realize there was so much damage. I will definately be ready to start applying the healing cream in three more days. Use it, it works!

I used this drug for three weeks, twice per day. Unsightly red spots, two large areas on my temples, sore (like a bad sun burn. Last day resulted in a small amount of bleeding on my forehead. Much better than developing cancer. I persevered thru the pain taking an over the counter pain medication. Realize the sore red areas prove the medication is working. Now I simply wait for the healing process to conclude. One final note, I did refrain from seeing people as much as possible as I was getting uncomfortable stares. Read More Read Less

The pain was excruciating. Worse than any sunburn I ever had, endless for the four weeks of treatment.

my Dr. was very forward about the effects of this drug. He has me using it on my face and upper chest 3 times a week to avoid the bad inflammation and large white spots in the red places if applied every day. I have had no side effects. just redness, itching and after two and a half weeks. some peeling. He checked progress after two weeks. supposed to call after one month unless problems. My brother used this product but had so any pre-cancerous lesions that his dr did a chemical peel of his face. Read More Read Less

Absolutely would not use this on my lips again. My lips bled and would wake me up at night with the pain. Overall, I was satisfied.

After 10 days of using the cream twice a day I had very little reaction. Day 11 - lips totally blistered and red sores all over my chin. Very painful and ugly. I am hopeful it is working. My Dr. gave me a prescription for Picato and at $700 a tube, I am staying on Fluorouracil for 2 more weeks and hope to be done. Very helpful reviews.

On my third go around with the medicine. First time was my entire face, second my ears, and the third my right arm. After the first time I had to really psych myself up for rounds two and three. The pain and irritation is pretty intense which make sleeping, thinking or interacting in a civil manner difficult. The side effects are worth the peace of mind knowing that the medicine works as intended. Need to do my other arm next, but will need to take time to ready myself mentally.

I have Actinic Keratosis (AK)on my lower lip due to sun damage. I have done numerous treatments. The redness and burning sensations start at day 3 and 2 days later, what look like blisters, change to open sores. The they ooze in places and burn all the time. I wear a hospital mask during the most difficult-looking week as to not scare people (or gross them out). It is a very uncomfortable treatment,Healing begins when it starts crusting over however, I will do anything to stave off cancer and keep my lip.Read More Read Less

On day 15 of 21 day dose, the effects were very red and angry and significant swelling of entire face. Stopped at 18 days with doctors permission. Moisturize with vaseline or vanicream several times a day and I took 800 mg of ibuprofen for the burning and swelling. Doctor prescribed special cream for after care. Not pleasant at all but very effective.

I had multiple sunburn experiences in my 20's and paying the price now in my 40's. Was told by Dr. to use for 12 days, after we removed and burned more than 4 suspicious spots on my chest and shoulders. By day 3 of using this cream, it was so uncomfortable, with itching, burning and blotchy redness that I stopped and immediately went back to Dr. She said it was doing it's job and to go back to applying. I was able to tolerate 8 more days using this product on my chest/neck. It was horrific but boy, the after-effect was amazing! We wouldn't have been able to burn or remove the amount of cancer spots that the Carac cream pulled up! I am pleased that this product help remove my pre-cancerous cells. I am diligent now with sunscrean and SPF clothing. A tan just isn't worth my health. Read More Read Less

Severe headaches 25 minutes after applying product to entire face. Pain cause lack of attention and sense of dizziness. It took 5 to 6 hours for headaches to cease. Rx was for application of Efudex twice a day for 5 weeks. Rx was revised to include and immediate halt to application due to complaints. Nurse insisted I could not be experiencing symptoms as the treatment is topical and not systemic, though the literature does very clearly indicate treatment can be systemic with topical application. Doctor did not follow up, so I am unable to give his assessment of my experience. Read More Read Less

At the end of week 2 of treatment. 1st week was not bad with only minor redness of the cheeks and misc. spots of redness at affected areas over face. 2nd week has increased pain and redness of the areas being treated. Scaling and burning of the areas being treated is occuring. The treatment seems to be working based on other experiences I have read about.

Prescribed for 2 red patches of suspected keratosis on end of nose (couldn't be in a worse or more obvious place). Applied twice a day for 10 days, then 10 days off before starting a second 10 day twice a day application treatment. Can't see any difference yet but seeing the specialist in one month's time for analysis. Going to Spain next week and worried about how to protect nose if sun comes out.

I'm in week three (two of fluorouracil, now Prutect to moisten and heal). It's as everyone described, but not as bad. It's slightly itchy and I can't wait until I can wash my face again without pain, but totally bearable. I've been in numerous social situations (work, dinner out, board meetings, shopping, new Pilates class) without problem. I was afraid children would scream and run at a glimpse of my fact. Never happened. So don't let the minor downsides keep you from doing this, if you need it.Read More Read Less

I had to discontinue after 10 days, as the my scrotum had swollen as was oozing some clear material right through the sac. Horrible burning. Now 10 days later still ooozing and burning. Unbearable. Worst pain I have had in 70 years. I do not know results yet.
