I have been struggling with migraines that only started around the time I turned 40 (so for a few years now.) One every 3 weeks or so but they were getting bad and nothing really was helping. I was resistant to medications because I was fearful of long term side effects and just the idea of taking strong medications was foreign to me. Finally my doctor convinced me to try Trokendi XR 50 mg. I've b...
I found out from my doctor that there is another extended release medication on the market called Qudexy. He told me that it had clinical data showing a reduction in side effects, especially for the brain fog that I had. Trokendi doesn't have a clinical trial. It is newer than the Trokendi, but worth asking your doctor about!

Like most everyone else, I started low dose and worked my way up. On the 25, 50 and 100MG I was still having migrains, but not many side effects. My dr. Started me on 200MG and I became a different person, for the worse. I had no energy, I was confused all the time, no appetite.. just physically here. Id drive, and forget where i was going. Go shopping and forget what i bought. Have meltdowns in parking lots because i couldnt find my car, and had no memory of parking it. I don't recommend it at all. I'm getting a Cervical Medial Branch Block procedure this week, hoping for the best. I refuse to take Trokendi anymore. Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Trokendi XR for the prevention of cluster headaches. I also was on Verapamil for BP. The Trokendi did wonders in blocking my headaches and I thought I had no side effects. UNTIL I started losing my hair in clumps. When I spoke to the pharmacist, I was told that both the Trokendi and Verapamil could cause hair loss. My doc weaned me off the Trokendi and changed my blood pressure med. The hair loss stopped immediately. I have no idea which one was causing the hair loss or if it was just a combination of the two.Read More Read Less

I have taken this medication for a little over a month and has helped great for the migraines but definitely not worth the side effects. Memory impairment, nausea, acne, numbness and tingling in hands and feet, nothing tasted good, altered mood, infection, and not being able to perform my job without the fear of endangering someone's life was just not worth it.

Trokendi XR was great in preventing migraines. Worked wonders. But I had a weird and not common side effect, severe cough and bronchitis for four months, for most of the time I took the medicine. I hope this information helps someone.

Take 50 MG at night for Migraine Prevention. While it works for this, the side effects are horrible. My vision is weird. Every now and then my one eye looks cloudy, if that makes sense. I'm foggy brained, have trouble concentrating and my patience is at zero. I also have tingling in my face, feet and hands. I occasionally have pain in my left arm pit area, not sure if this is common, but I had it prior while taking Trokendi, switched meds it went away, went back on Trokendi and it came back. My anxiety is also high. I feel like the side effects outweigh the benefits. Read More Read Less

Turned me into a different person. I was so agitated all the time. I had no patience with anyone. Made me very moody. Loved ones were very concerned for me. Helped the headaches however. I never write reviews but this drug needs to be taken with caution.

Used to take 50mg topamax daily, but was still struggling with migraine management. Tried to increase dose to 75mg but the side effects of the medication were untenable. My neurologist suggested that I try Trokendi XR, thinking I should be able to increase the dose without the negative cognitive side effects...which is exactly what I have been able to do, and successfully manage my migraines. I now take 100mg of Trokendi XR daily. My migraines seem to be well managed, and I don't experience anything close to the kind of negative side effects that I was experiencing when taking 50mgs of Topamax. Thumbs up for Trokendi XRRead More Read Less

My Doc switched me from Depakote to Trokendi XR about a month ago. Started out with the 25mg, then 50mg and then 100mg until migraines stopped. I sleep very well but have trouble with memory and energy-motivation during the day. I feel the tingling sometimes but it's better than dealing with the migraines. Tried Topamax before but this is better, although I wouldn't mind losing some weight. I ran red lights while taking Topamax. I was just totally in a fog with that stuff.

I was put on Trokendi Xr after being taken off of Topiramate after I had brain surgery in April of 2014. I was on Trokenid XR for a total of eight months and just got off the medication this week. I had a lot of the severe side effects. After the first two 3 weeks of being on this medicine it caused a drastic change in my mood, depression, thoughts of suicide, dramatic increase in memory loss, tingling in the hands, legs and feet, I could never get enough sleep, and I also was very aggressive and irritable. I did not have a seizure while on Trokendi XR, but the side effects that I was having with this medication were not worth it for me.. My doctor has now put me back on Topiramate 2x a day, 50mg in the moring and 100mg at night. with all of that being said I would like to say that Trokendi XR did a excellent job as a preventative and could work excellent for someone else> Read More Read Less

It started working well for the migraines for the first few weeks then the migraines came back. The side effects were horrible for me especially for the thinking and concentration. I was at 100mg and it wasn't worth it due to always feeling my arms tingling and being confused.

Trokendi helps to prevent migraines, but the side effects are the same as for topomax or worse. Dizzy, tired, cognitive problems.

Trokendi XR has lessened the severity of my Tonic-Clonic seizures but has made me extremely tired and caused my mind to be very foggy and unclear. I find myself having a hard time focusing my thoughts and it makes me feel very dizzy. I will be switching to a new medication as soon as possible.

I have had migraines most of my adult life. I have been having 1-3 per week. I started taking Trokendi XR 50 mg and didn't have one for almost 4 weeks. I had one that lasted for almost 3 days. My doctor increased me to 100 mg. I have not had a migraine again for 2 and a half weeks. The side effects are annoying but much better than the migraines.
