I have been on many antidepressants over the past 8 years in addition to other treatments such as therapy, lifestyle changes and was even on the verge of getting ECT for my MDD/BPD. All of the treatments I tried had limited success as far a depression goes. I started using Brintellix about a month ago and it has been, by far, the best treatment I've ever used for depression. Side effects were min...

I've been on 10mg for two months now. I feel better than I have in years. More energy, more myself again. Like a fog (the fog of those other meds) has lifted. But this med does come with a price, as it seems most of you have also found - the gastric irritation. I now have an ulcer which needs to be treated.

It is hard to rate my experience so far since I have just started this medication but I am very hopeful based on my Genesight results. This test analyzes genes that may affect a patient’s response to antidepressant and antipsychotic medications. I have been on so many antidepressants and mood stabilizers for the past 15 years and I have struggled my whole life. My psychiatrist did this mouth swab and I got my results back just this week. The results are so interesteing because they show how I metabolize certain medications and which antidepressants will work best for me with a lower chance for side effects. Looking at the results, I'm amazed at how most of the medications that have not helped me or have not been tolerated through my many trials in the past are on the "use with increased caution and more frequent monitoring" list. I am only on day 2 of Brintellix 10mg so it's too early to tell if I have finally found my answer. So far I feel good and don't have any side effects. Amazingly, some of the other medications that I have found to work well in other categories are confirmed on this test. Fingers crossed. Read More Read Less

A few things my provider told me to do while I have been on Brintellix: if I get nausea, take the it at night with a small snack and I will sleep through most if not all nausea; if I get a little "restless" I may be able to take Brintellix every other day especially if I am seeing improvement in my symptoms; as I feel better to make sure I am eating healthy foods and walking at least 10,000 steps (exercise/walking helps keep things moving); and finally, I'm lucky that my insurance covers Brintellix but my copay is still $50 He gave me a savings card where I pay $25/prescription and the company that makes the medicine pays the next $30. This makes Brintellix only $25/month! I have been really happy with this medicine. I have been on only 10 mg but I know I can move up if I need to. Like I said, I am really surprised at how well I am feeling. More so than I have been in years-5+ on 225 mg of Effexor XR. I hope the tips my doctor gave me can help some of you out there who are getting better but having some troubles with side effects.Read More Read Less

I have vertigo. In the past, I have taken Valium and nortriptyline and cymbalta but had terrible constipation. Also, I took vybriid and Valium which was pretty good. At least when I took brintellix it was effective and I did not need the vallium. I just had an itching problem but am taking 10 mg of lotardin (claritan) which has helped. This is the first medication in 5 years that has really made a difference with my vertigo problem and my mood is so much better.

My experience on Brintellix has been so negative that it is the first time I've ever felt driven to write a medication review on any website. In short, I suffer from OCD and depression. I had been taking Lexapro and Anafranil for the fairly successful management of both, but at the nearly complete cost of my sex drive, which has always bothered me tremendously. I switched from Lexapro to Brintellix because my psychiatrist told me about the lack of sexual side effects. Like most people on here say, nausea and other stomach troubles were prevalent for about a week every time I increased my dose. The worst of my problems, however, were the dramatic mood swings I experienced on this medication. Even at the lowest dose of 5mg, I called my psychiatrist to report that within the first week, my mood would suddenly drop considerably for hours at a time on and off. I wanted to give Brintellix some time, though, so I went up to 10mg and eventually 20mg. At 10mg, I became very irritable on this medication in addition to mood swings; the smallest things people would say or do I would find extremely irritating in a way that is not characteristic of me. At 20mg, my mood swings became so dramatic that my therapist told me that my symptoms reminded him a lot of his patients who have bipolar disorder, which is not something I have. I would be going along for days at a time with a decent to good mood, only to suddenly feel myself plummet into deep depression for no apparent reason. I'm talking about complete and utter sadness. The tiniest things would make me cry heavily—it was really out of control. And then, hours later, I would be fine! The only upside of this medication for me was that it indeed did not give me any sexual side effects. I wanted to leave this review so that if anyone else out there is taking this med and feels frightened by intense mood swings like what I've described, you're not alone.Read More Read Less

Lots of nausea, it goes away pretty quickly if I take it with food. Constipation, and some weirdness in my stomach. I am experiencing sores in my mouth, which does not seem to be a side effect. I do have to say my mood is way better, I am out of bed and participating in life, I've been on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin which improved my mood but not to this degree I actually feel happy. Not just numb. Im only on week 2, and my dose is at 10mg.

I have been on the medication (5mg) for bipolar depression for about a week now and am experiencing the some of the more common side effects such as nausea (which subsides after about an hour), dry mouth, vivid dreaming, and a decrease in sex drive. However, I am also convinced it is adversely affecting my coordination, small motor skills, and/or nerve sensitivity in my fingers. Specifically, I keep dropping things (mostly smaller objects), which is very rare for me. I don't know if I will continue this medication for this reason. I find it unnerving (if I may be permitted a small pun).Read More Read Less

I have been on Brintellix now for a couple of months. I also take Wellbutrin and Zoloft. Side effects at first were minimal. My dosage was increased from 10mg to 20 mg (while discontinuing the Zoloft) but I began to have suicidal thoughts daily. Back on Zoloft, decreased Brintellix back to 10mg and suicidal thoughts stopped. Irritabilty is ridiculous, I thought it was because of other issues, but looking back, I feel that the irritabilty has only increased on the Brintellix along with an intense sensitivity to heat. Took Brintellix 10 mg for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Dr. then increased dosage to 20 mg because my anxiety was coming back. Started the 20mg two weeks ago and my anxiety got really bad. Woke up really anxious and stayed that way most of the day. Would feel gradually better the later it got into the day and at night. That's when I took it, at night. Apparently I was feeling better later in the day because it was when the med was on its way out of my system and when I took it again at bedtime it would get my anxiety amped up for the next day. Dr. says that the Brintellix was probably amping up my anxiety so it's not the med for me. Read More Read Less

Been taking for two weeks. Would rather cut off my hand then take this. Been on lots of antidepressants in my lifetime, nothing anywhere near this awful. Causing extreme irritability, extremely unsteady, General confusion, brain fog, dreadful mood swings, sharp shooting head pains, chest pains, diarrhea, hot, cold, insomnia, abnormal dreams, increased appetite, feeling worthless...you name it, this caused it. Never ever again. Now afraid of all psychiatric meds. Stay away from this. Can't wait to see Dr to get this changed. Completely unable to function.Read More Read Less

It took about 8 weeks for me to realize that something was not right. At first i thought it was due to high stress situation, then I realized it was my medicine. Within a matter of 3 days (had taken for almost 8 weeks), I began to feel like I never have felt in my life. It is a horrible feeling. I was so down, I couldn't even make myself "fake smile" and I felt like I was going to lose my mind. I also was only sleeping 2-3 hours a night. I called my Dr. immediately and I am going off of it. On 10mg, going down to 5 and then back on viibryd. I hope I never experience this feeling again, nor anyone else for that matter.Read More Read Less
