I used Ortho Evra for years, had to switch because new insurance wouldn't cover it. Until the generic came out. then I switched back. I see bad reviews, but I don't have a bad review for this medication. It can take a body 3 months to adjust to birth control. Generic's inactive ingredients are slightly different than the brand, so that probably accounts for many people's bad side effects. My a...

Like others, Xulane showed up unexpectedly at my front door when my mail order came in one month instead of Ortho Evra. For the first month it appeared to be a decent patch. The second month went okay as well it seemed. Side note: the Xulane patch does not re-stick at all once it peels off even just the tiniest bit. Ortho Evra does stick back on. When I put on my first patch for the start of the t...

I have noticed more mood swings, increased sexual appetite, and minor itching/burning 3 hours after I put the Xulane on, never had the itching with Ortho Evra, however with the ortho patch I had this awful gummy line around the patch, and when I took it off I'd have this discolored line around the square, and that still isn't going away. Overall I prefer the Xulane, comes off cleaner.

I was on Ortho Evra patches for almost 10 years before switching to Xulane. They are identical, although the Xulane patch is actually slightly smaller. Ortho had some initial side effects which were gone in 4 months. I have only lost 1 patch in 10 years and it was while waterskiing - I also lost my swimsuit bottoms!

I have used Ortho Evra for years and then I was switched to Xulane. I don't like the skin irritation, which I still have from the last 4 patches, last week was my week off, I thought the irritation would heal, but still there. I even wear a Tommy Copper shirt for my hurt shoulder, thought it would help clear up my skin. I did tell the pharmacy about it coming off, they suggested really expensive Nexcare Tegaderm Waterproof Transparent Dressing to apply over it so it would stay in place. That is exactly what I need ANOTHER patch on me.Read More Read Less

This patch rubs off after 4-5 days and causes me extreme nausea, emotional lability (moody as heck), and intense migraines.

I was on the Ortho Evra patch for about 9 months. It was great. It was the first birth control I had found to ease my period symptoms. I get very painful cramps and migraines. Ortho Evra got me down to about one weekend of migraine. Much better. Then I was switched to Xulane about 7 months ago. It starts off as fine so you think it's all good. I am now to the point where I once again have painful cramps and migraines. The past 2 weeks I have had a headache every day except 1. Some of the headaches have morphed into migraines. I am spending half my time with headaches or migraines. I don't do fun things anymore because I'm too tired and don't feel well. I used to love running. I have instead stopped running and have gained weight. I am also more emotional. I have had my current roommate for a year and a half. Now suddenly, she is so mean and I can't stand to be around her. Trust me, she didn't change that much. I have cried more in the past 2 weeks than my entire year. I wasn't even crying about anything in particular. It would be something small and definitely not cry worthy. I have an appointment with my doctor soon and will be asking her to switch me back to Ortho Evra. At the very least, I will not be taking this medication any longer. I have also developed dry eyes since starting this medication.Read More Read Less

While on the Xulane patches, I experienced sharp pains in the thigh to knee area, which made it hard for me to walk without limping. Two days after I took it off (that it was out of my system), I had no pain. Ortho Evra never caused me pain like that.

I have been on Ortho Evra for years when the mail in pharmacy switched me to this drug. I have had horrible cramping on my periods, my breast are really sore, and I have had two break through periods that are heavier and last longer than normal. I would much rather pay the cost of name brand.

I've used Ortho Evra for over 10 years, switched to Xulane when CVS gave it to me lol. I had break-through bleeding and acne (which was never an issue with Ortho Evra). I'd rather pay for the name brand!

I used the NuvaRing for 7 months before switching to Xulane due to low libido. I have been on the patch for 3 months, and my libido has increased. My first period after starting the patch came a week early and lasted 11 days while my normal cycle lasts 6 days. The next period was on time and lasted 6 days. Since I started Xulane, I have experienced headaches every day. My appetite has increased and has resulted in an 8-pound weight gain. This month my breasts have been sore and have swollen a whole cup size. My energy level has slightly decreased, and I often experience nausea. I had a rash one week from the patch because I placed it on a more oily part of my back. It sticks well if it is stuck to completely bare skin. Even the fine, barely visible hair should be shaved if you have a problem with the patch falling off. I chose the patch for its ease of use of only remembering to change it once a week. If the headaches persist for a couple more months, I may consider a transition to the pill. Even though the headaches are normally not bad enough to require medication, they still drain my energy and affect my overall quality of life.Read More Read Less

So Ive beeb on the patch for about 8 or 9 months. I used Ortho Evera for about a month before I was sent Xulane. The only side effects I ecperience was after the first week of starting Ortho. I have experience no sode effects with Xulane. It does occasionally have adhesive problems but overall it has been satisfactory. Ive worn it in the shower, to the beach, to the pool, in a river and not once did it fall off. So far I have not gotten pregnant and when my year perscription has run up and I visit my OBGYN I will ask her to renew this product.Read More Read Less

I switched to this method of birth control October 2014, and it has worked as far as my cycle being normal so far. But the only issue i have had so far is the itchy and rash looking bumps it left on my arm. Not sure if its cause it was exposed to the sun. But ill give it another month or two before i switch to another brand or something. But i do love using the patch better than having to take a pill everyday.

I have been on Ortho Evra continuous use for the control of endometriosis for 12 years and after the initial time getting used to the new drug, have not had any trouble. Since my insurance has made me switch to the xulane patch 6 months ago, I have had nothing but problems. The patches are smaller, which is okay, and I don't have any problems with them falling off. However, I have had bleeding for three weeks at a time on more than one occasion. Every week on patch change day I have breakthrough bleeding. Not a happy camper.Read More Read Less

I have been on Ortho Evra for 9 years and have been very satisfied. About 3 months ago (without any prior warning) my prescription switched to Xulane. I was actually thrilled that there was now a generic patch and it was going to cost me less than the Ortho Evra. I gave it a shot and will never use Xulane again! My husband and I agreed we will go back to condoms before using that drug again. I was extremely tired all the time and very moody/irritable. It was terrible! I finally said "screw it" and took the patch off one day. Two days later I was a completely different person! Even the night after I took it off I was already feeling better. Everyone is different so you should give it a try but as for me I will NEVER take this drug again. I am working with my doctor to get back on Ortho Evra. Everyone says that they are the same drug but they are absolutely not! Xulane has some work to do.Read More Read Less

I really have not had that many problems with the drug except PIMPLES. The pimples are in odd places too. They are on my panty line on my buttocks. I surely can't wear a bathing suit anymore because of the pimples.

I switched to Xulane 3 months ago because of my insurance. Is it effective as Birth Control? - so far so good, but other reviews worry me. Ease of use? - I like the smaller patch size and it doesn't itch like Ortho Evra did for me. But, the worst thing for me as to why I give this a 1 star for satisfaction are the HEADACHES! For the week that I'm OFF the patch, I have a headache for about 5 days. Not sure if it's a Migraine but I'm extremely irritable and I just want to sleep in darkness. I've read that I might be experiencing withdrawal. Could be true, almost as soon as I put on a new patch, I start feeling better. But then a day later, another headache, this one lasting only for a day. I also get a headache on the day I change my patch. I need to be fully functional for my family and this BC does not work for me. I've asked for a new script for brand name Ortho Evra. I'd rather pay the $ than suffer!Read More Read Less

I had a similar experience as some other reviewers. I also had to have my Dr. call in a new prescription so I would only get ortha evera and insurance would cover it. The reason I am writing this review is that I had issues switching back to ortha evra after being on the generic; issues like if I had taken a week off. After much effort I peeled back the prescription labels and compared the two boxes of patches. The amount of active ingredients IS NOT THE SAME. The generic only has about 75% of the medication as ortha evra. I have no doubt that is what is causing most of the issues in these reviews. Read More Read Less

The second month went okay as well it seemed. Side note: the Xulane patch does not re-stick at all once it peels off even just the tiniest bit. Ortho Evra does stick back on. When I put on my first patch for the start of the third month...it all went downhill. I had THREE periods in one month and all inbetween those I had breakthrough bleeding everyday. Every. Single. Day. For four weeks I was bleeding and I was very over-emotional and moody and depressed. I lost interest in things that I loved doing all the time. The only change in my life was the new Xulane patch. I went to my doctor and had her only allow Ortho Evra to be sent to me. She did several tests as well for other possibilities as to why I might be bleeding nonstop. All came back negative. After my "first" period being off of the Xulane patch, I finally stopped bleeding and my cycle went back to normal. A normal cycle for me since the start of my very first menstrual cycle has never included any spotting or breakthrough bleeding ever. I feel happier now and have more energy and feel like doing things that I love again. Xulane is a dangerous drug. It appeared safe and effective the first couple of months but it turns out it is not.Read More Read Less

I too have been on the Ortho Evra patch for over 10 years and a few months ago i had to switch over to Xulane because my insurance no longer would cover the original. I have been on it for a few months and since i have been experiencing EXTREME fatigue ( i can barely get through the day) and have been very emotional. I called my insurance and told them Xulane is not the same as the patch and asked them about covering Ortho Evra again. They said i have to have my doctor send them a note basically explaining that i have tried it and cannot continue because of the side effects and asking them to cover the Ortho Evra. I have made an appointment with my doctor to discuss this. It seems like the insurance is willing to cover the name brand if your doctor tells them you can't do the generic. I suggest you try this first as well before you spend money on the name brand. Read More Read Less

Great! I have been on Ortho Evra for ten years and I was terrified to start Xulane after reading the reviews but I just started my second box and haven't had a single problem. It has never fallen off or come loose (I wear it around my hips so its always covered by clothing/bathing suit) and I run every other night and went swimming in the ocean on a rough enough day that one of my contacts was knocked out. I have felt no side effects and I find it less painful to take off and it leave less residue than Ortho Evra did.Read More Read Less
