I used Ortho Evra for years, had to switch because new insurance wouldn't cover it. Until the generic came out. then I switched back. I see bad reviews, but I don't have a bad review for this medication. It can take a body 3 months to adjust to birth control. Generic's inactive ingredients are slightly different than the brand, so that probably accounts for many people's bad side effects. My a...

Like others, Xulane showed up unexpectedly at my front door when my mail order came in one month instead of Ortho Evra. For the first month it appeared to be a decent patch. The second month went okay as well it seemed. Side note: the Xulane patch does not re-stick at all once it peels off even just the tiniest bit. Ortho Evra does stick back on. When I put on my first patch for the start of the t...

As many review below I have switched from Ortho Evra to Xulane due to insurance coverage. I absolutely recommended Ortho Evra as it was easy and care free. Xulane not so much. I dont have any problems with the patch sticking-I apply mine on my upper thigh/lower hip- but I am constantly exhausted and fatigued which before I never was and regularly active. Ive noticed I'm hungry ALL the time and have became very very irritable. Ive been on this patch for 3 months now and nothing has gotten better. I also have spotting ALL. MONTH. LONG. I cannot deal with these side affects any longer. This is not what I was expecting when they told me "theres no difference from ortho evra" and I no longer feel like myself. Would not reccomend and switching back immediately even if i have to pay over $100 Read More Read Less

Like many other ladies, I previously used Ortho Evra for the past three years. Ortho Evra had its problems, but those problems are few in comparison to Xulane. I, too, was switched to Xulane since my provider will only cover the generic. I have been having headaches on and off, experiencing dizziness, extreme fatigue, faintness, bloating and mild depression brought on my onset mood swings. I liked the smaller, Xulane sized patch, initially and even noticed that it was sticking pretty well. Unfortunately the one positive thing went out the window, when I noticed that the patch had rolled up and completely fallen off today after just 4 days of use. Just beware of these things happening and pay close attention to your symptoms when first switching over to Xulane. If switching back over is an option, then I'd recommend going that route none I am actively exploring options.Read More Read Less

Prior to this, I have been on the OrthoEvra birth control patch for ten years and it was simple and easy. I got switched to the Xulane patch by my insurance company….. NOT A FAN!! I'm gained 15lbs, gone up almost two cup sizes, have been experiencing frequent migraine headaches and vomiting, and more often than not I'm bleeding in between periods. And on top of it all, I've been miserable and moody. Its honestly not worth being on. I'm either switching back or changing my birth control all together. The only thing I will give it credit for is preventing pregnancy…. because feeling the way I do, I don't even want to be touched, let alone have sex.Read More Read Less

I have always used the name brand version of the birth control patch (cost me $50/month with my insurance) to regulate my cycle and was excited when this generic version become available as it is free with my insurance. Turns out it isn't worth it. I can rarely get the Xulane patch to stay on for more than a day or two and end up fighting a reoccurring battle with medical tape and large band-aids to keep it on. It rubs off and slides around after a shower, while moving around sleeping at night, and when clothing rubs on it... even if it is on my upper arm (which is supposed to be a more secure place to put it as there is less skin movement). Even worse is that now that this generic is available, my insurance charges twice as much for the name brand. It will now cost me over $1000 a year for the name brand if I want to switch back. :( I am more than disappointed with this product.Read More Read Less

I have been using the Ortho Evra for 10 years when my insurance decided to go with Generics ( I have never paid for the patch or a co-payment, that's how my insurance was set up). Started using XULANE for almost 3 months now and my side effects are: HAIR LOSS, ulcers in my tongue, headaches, dizziness, fast heart palpitations, weakness, tiredness, short breath, 1 week of bleeding prior period, periods were longer, painful and dark blood, my LYMPH NODES( swollen), are acting up since the are trying to filter foreign particles in my body, I believe it is this PATCH. I am a very healthy woman, I work out, yoga everyday, I eat clean all the time, organic, non GMO. I do everything there is to take care of my body. Haven't been sick since 2005... Till now. So, for me this is actually crap, that I decided with my doctor consent NOT to take it any more. I will rather pay for the ORTHO EVRA patch once I'm done detoxifying my body from this crap !Read More Read Less

I have been on ortho evera for almost two years, and I got switched over on my last refil, I'm not sure why either. I would love to actually comment on it but i really can't as I can't get a patch to actually stick on my body for more that 2 or 3 days at a time, I plan on switching back immediately

My 25 year old daughter has cerebral palsy and is developmentally disabled. She has worn the Ortho Evra patch continuously for two years in order to prevent menstruation. Insurance required her to switch to the generic about 2 months ago and shortly after that she began spotting, which then became heavier and continues until now. I've just contacted her doctor about switching back to Ortho Evra, and hopefully her insurance will cover the expense. If not, we will discontinue Xulane and consider other methods of preventing her periods. Read More Read Less

All these eeviews I read scared me, but then I thought of all the people using it only the people with something negitive to say will be looking to spread the news. I was on ortho for over a year and now have been on xulane for 3 months, the only side effects I've noticed are some gasyness/boating, and every once in a while I feel very tired. But besides that it sticks great, im not pregnant, and yes ive been testing since a ton of people said they got pregnant on it. I havent had a single one fall off and it actually adheres better than ortho. By the end of the week its so stuck that it actually hurts to peel off , thats not falling off. Also my period have been roght on, havent missed one and haven't been late. Read More Read Less

I began using the generic patch Xulane in June, I used as instructed. I used ORTO EVRA for the past three years never had any problems except a patch occasionally falling off. A few days ago, I realized my period had not come, on 7/28/14 I took a pregnancy test which confirmed, I am indeed pregnant. Not sure, how this could be as I used the patch just as the Ortho Evra. Needless to say, this is not effective, and would rather pay the $120 for the brand name.

I was on Ortho Evra for about a year and I loved it. I was worried about switching to Xulane because I had heard about it falling off constantly, but so far I have been on it for about two months and it hasn't ever fallen off. It sticks just as well as Ortho Evra. As for side effects, I haven't noticed anything except for a bit of weight gain, but I think that might be due to me not eating healthy enough and being lazy and not from Xulane. The only thing I really dislike is that it made my period come earlier and last longer. On Ortho Evra, my period always came exactly five days after taking off the patch, usually in the morning, so I could always expect it. With Xulane, my period came after five days (at midnight) at first and then my next cycle it came after four, and both of my periods had spotting. The spotting was worse for the first period but it was still there on the second, and with Ortho Evra I never had any spotting. I don't use it for birth control so I can't say how well it works for that. Overall, it's not bad but I did like Ortho Evra better. Read More Read Less

since the first day i put it on i was sick, nausea, chest pains, headaches and pain in leg. I have been on brand name ortho evra for 10 years and never had any issues. I was paying $120 a month for brand name and when i got switched to the generic i didn't have to pay when my mail order sent it to me i figured i would try it, xulane is terrible i was sick for over 5 days and once i pull it off after 3 days i started feeling alot better. Well my doc told me i was having allergic reaction to the xulane patch and he put me back to my ortho evra. I think i rather pay the $120 a month instead of being sick from the xulane patch that was free with my insurance.Read More Read Less

I was on the brand name othro evra and was switched to the generic brand which sucks! I used evra for almost 4 years and just once it fall off. But this one since I got it on april it has fall off 3 times which means in three months it has fallen. Only one month I had all three patches without a problem. I want othro evra back which i will ask my doctor, this generic brand sucks!!!!!

Patch begins to peal off within minutes of application. I have tried it in multiple recommended locations and none of them seem to work. Because this product exists, I can no longer afford the name brand. Will have to talk to doctor about switching to a different option because this just doesn't work!

I was on Ortho Evra for 3 months then had to change to the generic version due to the insruance. For the first month, it caused my areolas to be VERY dry and itchy. They started to flake. Had me scared so I went to my OBG-GYN. She said it was normal. Ive been on Xulane for three months now, my areolas have gotten way better. They dont itch as much. Too be extra cautious I would moisturize my areolas everyday after I shower to avoid them from itching and being dry. But besides that, the patch sticks well even when I work out. Like everyone else I was very worried the day that I was switched to the generic version of ortho evra. I had been on it for a little over a year and it worked great and I didn't want to change it. I called my Dr. and she confirmed that they were the same and it would be fine. I've been on xulane for two months now and I have had no problems! I think it actually sticks better than ortho evra! I'm a lifeguard so I'm in the pool sometimes, and I also workout and it sticks through both! I'm surprised everyone has bad reviews for it because I don't think I really have anything negative to say about it. Read More Read Less

After being on Ortho Evra for 7 years, I was switched to the generic patch two months ago, and I have not been happy with the change. I never had any major side effects on the brand name patch. However, the generic patch has made my migraines much worse, I've had no energy at all, and I've started to get a rash from the adhesive on the patch. Not to mention that the patch doesn't stick that well in the first place. The last straw was finally a migraine that lasted three days and kept getting progressively worse, plus I was spending all of my days off sleeping and could barely manage to get out of bed. I took the patch off out of sheer frustration, and just one day later, I am feeling almost 100% better. My headache is gone, and I am nowhere near as tired. I have already called my GYN and asked for a new prescription that specifies "No generic."Read More Read Less

I was taking Ortho Evra for 10 years and get switched to this horrific medication. It starts to peel off after 2 days, even if you dont exercise or swim. Im going to pay more to get switched back to something that I know works.

I started using Ortho Evra in January of 2013 (I had been on Depo Provera for six months before that, and prior to the shot I had used Junel FE.) My doctor told me that the patch didn't cause any weight gain in excess of 5 pounds, at my yearly check up I'd gained twenty pounds. But all things considered I was happy with Ortho Evra and decided to stick with it, it didn't make me feel crazy emotional and it was easy to remember. A few months ago my pharmacist gave me Xulane instead and honestly, it doesn't seem any different to me. I like the patch because it's smaller than the original brand name. I haven't had any trouble like the other ladies that have posted with the patch not sticking. Overall, I'm satisfied and I haven't seen any adverse side effects from the switch.Read More Read Less

While I've only been using this for about two months, the only complaint I have, like others, is that is does tend to peel off. My solution has been to put medical tape on all sides and that seems to keep it on while still remaining unseen (if worn in a spot under your underwear). It does the job; of course mood swings are a problem with almost all birth controls as well as weight gain-it's just a matter of your body adjusting to the medication. I'd give it some time before deciding to switch to something different. Read More Read Less

After being on Ortho Evra for over 9 years I was not happy to be switched to Xulane without prior knowledge; even when the pharmacist gave it to me he didn't say anything about the change. Well after 2 months of being on this patch I've had 2 come off while in the shower, that never happened to me with Ortho. They also bend and fold as I move around and stick to my clothing all problems I didn't have with the other patch. I'm always hungry and tired, I have put on 5 pounds in the 2 months and that is very abnormal for me. Well of course after the change my menstrual cycle is all out of whack. When I missed last month I called my doctor she said it could just be my body adjusting (well if this is the generic version there should be any difference right...WRONG) Because when I missed again I took a pregnancy test and just found out this morning I'm pregnant! SO how's that for ineffective? The makers of this patch should have done some more product testing before releasing this patch into the market. What good is a product that not only doesn't do what it's supposed to do but is meant to cut down on costs but will end up costing more because now that it failed I will have another child to care for.Read More Read Less
