Today I have been taking Contrave for 30 days. I am 5'7" & was 188 lbs. when I began.  In 30 days I lost 10 lbs. virtually effortlessly.  10 lbs. is not a lot of weight, and I have 33 more lbs. to loose to get to a healthy weight, but considering I sit at a desk all day & study at a desk all evening & never exercise I am thrilled.  The first 2 days I took the medication I felt a little "disconnect...

I took Contrave for 3 weeks following directions. After a few days, I started to feel dryness in my mouth which followed by constant strong bitter taste. I decided to stick to it, but by the end of week three late at night I suddenly started to feel a sharp pain in my lower back which quickly started to spread out up my body. I felt a sharp pain in my chest & back, tightness in my chest and shortn...

I have been taking this med for 6 months. I have lost about 30 pounds. It seems like the longer I'm on it,the better it works. I am only hungry when it is time for a meal, and then, I'm full after a reasonable amount of food. Rarely finishing a plate. I had severe constipation almost immediately, and still cope with that. I have noticed that I am losing my hair! I realized it a couple of months ago,but it is so bad now, I almost have a complete bald spot on the crown off my head. I would estimate at least a 60% loss. I did some investigating, and though "rare", hair loss is a side effect. I am weaning of of it now. Had I not experienced the hair loss,I would have continued to take it. And,no,the hair loss is not from hormones, I have had no ovaries for 10 years. There is no other factor it could be. When looking up alopecia caused from medication, did say out takes 4-6 months to notice. ?? And, it should grow back. Read More Read Less

I was previously on Belviq which did not work for me (gained weight). I have been taking Contrave now for 2.5 weeks and have lost 6 lbs. The side affects I had in the 1st week were headache, nausea, stomach pains and diarrhea which were manageable. Contrave has lessened my appetite and helped with food cravings. My goal is to lose 60 lbs.

I have fibromyalgia and am overweight. This medicine has some of the same properties that meds for my pain have as well as the weight side. I started this last week and I have noticed I don't think about food all day. It has helped with the pain somewhat, but not as much as Cymbalta did (got too expensive). I drank a glass of wine this weekend and was horribly sick the day after. I forgot it had the addiction side to the meds and apparently that did not go well with alcohol. Last night I started two pills. This morning I was ok but as the day has progressed I have felt more and more sick to my stomach. I am pretty sure it is the medicine sitting on an empty stomach, but the thought of food is making it worse. So that is bittersweet. I have not weighed, but when I do I will update. Update - on a week now, several pounds down. Slight headache each day and mild constipation. I do feel it controlling the emotional side of eating. A birthday this week. Easy to have very small serving and the rest of the cake sits untouched!! Tomorrow my dosage changes to twice a day. Symptoms are totally worth just the fact that I don't have to battle with my mind all day long. The choice to workout is easy and I do notice a feeling of being satisfied early in a meal, which helps knowing when to stop. Read More Read Less

I've been on Contrave for a week now. I've experienced a little stomach pain but nothing unbearable. I've changed me eating habits and I go to the gym. I'm pretty confident in the pills considering I've lost 5 pounds in the first week. I'm super excited to see how much I'll lose in the weeks to come, my goal is to lose 50 pounds.

Have side affects as most but manageable. When symptoms are too much I lessen dosage. It works. Lessens cravings. I think I can skip a full day of pills and the affect of the med is still working. I've lost 6 lbs. only need to lose 9 more. I do think we will gain our weight back if we return to eating unhealthy foods. If you can bear the side affects this is the best weight loss aid

I just needed to lose 40 lbs and was prescribed Contrave. The pill made me feel full and I only had the desire to eat my three squares and to my surprise I could only eat a fraction of each meal. The pill worked very well in terms of the weight loss but gave me the mist painful migraines that would ladt for four to six days when I worked my way up to four pills a day. It turned out that Contrave was way to strong for wanting to lose 40 pounds so I rent on Belvique also effective by the way. I didn't experience the metallic mouth or some of the other severe sides others were experiencing. The headaches though -- OUTRAGEOUS!! I'm glad that's over...Read More Read Less

Contrave did nothing on. 2 pills a day. Went to 3 pills and started the nausea and dizziness and constipation. But the positive was loss of appetite. So I went on to 4 pills and got so sick. Threw up from nausea and dizziness. Went back to 2 pills daily but still nauseous. I have lost 20 pounds in about 6 weeks. But always sick. May have to stop it to feel better. I feel less sick during Late evening and then can eat some. My family says to stop because of side effects

Psychotropic drug - I developed agoraphobia, couldn't go out, and a bad case of the shakes. My autoimmune system broke down and I was not able to fight off infections. My nails separated from their bed and I got a sty in my eye. The company advises that eating a high fat meal could result in a seizure but refuses to provide any guidance as to what amount of fat can be eaten. I noticed that it takes 3 hours to get into my system so the PM dosage should be taken mid afternoon, not at night.

I had suffered from depression and was started on wellbutrin which gave me the symptoms some of you speak of. my doctor added effexor and together they worked. Im wondering if those with sever symptoms could do the same then the medication would work without the bad side effects.

I have taken Contrave over 2 weeks and it has not helped. The side effects have been awful. My mind is hazy, dry mouth, had a sore inside my mouth from front to back on the roof of my mouth, insomnia at night and tired all day. My children and family state I have "changed" and am not the same person I was before starting the medication. I have not lost any weight. In fact, I have gained 2 pounds and have watched every morsel I have put in my mouth. I can say that you don't have any cravings for food but I think that is the reason I gained weight is because my body believes that it is starving as I am not hungry. So, it may be beneficial from so but has not been for me. It was an expensive lesson learned. I guess the bottom line is hardwork and dedication is what is needed in the weight loss battle. There is no "magic" fix. Read More Read Less

I left the U.S. Air Force almost 5 years ago in great shape and gained about 75 lbs. over that time, without the physical routine I was used to. Tried Phentermine and Belviq unsuccessfully, and was really skeptical about this new drug, Contrave. Per my well informed Doctor, I tried it anyway, and I've lost nearly 10 lbs. in the first 2 weeks. It seems like this medication was specifically made for my body. I know this may sound a bit funny but, I didn't realize I was craving food like I was before taking this medication. I now eat about 1/4 of what I used to, and I rarely feel hungry. I used to drink beer like it was going out of style and I couldn't even finish 1 beer last night because it just didn't sound/taste good, who would have thought? The medication does make me feel odd at times, like some mild stomach upset, but in a tolerable amount. However, I just don't think about food like I used to, I find myself putting down the fork or spoon much earlier and feeling satisfied with less amounts. I go through my day and I sometimes have to remind myself to eat, I've never ever felt that feeling before. One more thing, it's a little odd but, In a weird way I kind of miss craving food and beer, and that sounds really funny now that I write it.Read More Read Less

I have never given a drug review, but I MUST with contrave. First of all, after reading other reviews, I do not believe people should be able to give FAIR review if you have only taken ONE DOSE/DAY ONE. That is just silly and inappropriate. Secondly, I am on contrave for 6weeks now, have had ZERO negative side effects, sleep GREAT, have interesting dreams, (which is really kinda cool, it's like watching a new movie everynight, sometimes more than one), have survived 2 menstrual cycles, which is usually my weakness for sweets/carbs, and have now lost 17 lbs. Never have I not had a desire for carbs, but this is AMAZING!! My new passion is veges....I CANNOT get enough radishes! Weird, I know, but true. The wellbuterin part is clearly keeping me upbeat abd positive. I LOVE CONTRAVE!!! STRONGLY SUGGEST IT!!!Read More Read Less

I started my diet June 1, 2015. I weighed 277, I am 5"5(female). I weighted myself yesterday evening before going to bed & I weigh 263.4 pounds. I downloaded an app on my phone that tracks my calorie intake(never tracked calories before),& my walking. When I first started, I was walking maybe 2000 steps a day. My Dr told me I need to do 10000 steps. As of yesterday, I am doing over 6000 steps a day. I am loving this pill. I have no desire to over eat. I have no desire for cokes, or sweets. I have no desire to snack after dinner. I have to actually push myself to eat. I am eating an average of 1200 to 1090 calories a day, versus I use to eat over 3000 a day. Normally I would eat whenever everyone is eating, even though I had all ready ate. NOW, I say No! I had even forgot to take the pill one day, & still felt no cravings & no need to over eat. My goal at this time is to get below 200 pound & make over 10000 steps soon! Its a hard road, I know I didn't wake up this big(even though I like to think I did-ha ha) I cant blame anyone for how big I got, but myself! Wish me luck! I am on a fight for my life & my job as a firefighter/driver. I want to continue to save lives. Right now I am the one dialing 911 & trying to save mine! Read More Read Less

While I think this medication may work for someone who is morbidly obese, I did not benefit from any weight loss. I am 5'5" and 168 lbs. I needed to lose about 20 pounds. The medication helped with my mood, however I experienced nausea, fatigue, anxiety, headaches, and disruption of sleep. I awakened several times a night, and I had strange dreams. It did dull my appetite somewhat. I exercised and watched my diet. I still did not lose weight. I stopped the medication after speaking to my physician. Due to the side effects and its lack of effectiveness, I would not recommend this medication.Read More Read Less

My first week with only 1 pill a day was fine, didn't curb my appetite as much as phentermine, tho, but no jitterness and I was in good mood. But after 3rd day of week 2 taking one pill in am and one in eve, early next morning I woke up horribly sick. Nausea, vomit, head exploding. I wondered if I had stomach flu, couldn't work or do anything except stay in bed for over 24 hours. Has anyone else had this in a short time, but quite a few hours after taking a dose? I'm also waiting to hear back from my Dr.Read More Read Less

I have been on Contrave for 5 months and have lost 40 pounds. I had very mild side effects of nausea on first couple of days. This drug really reduces my cravings for junk food and alcohol. I really enjoy fresh fruits and large salads for lunch or dinner. My snacks are oranges, apples, peaches, melon, etc. I always exercised, but it is so much easier now that I am lighter. I increased my routine to 5 days/week and at least an 1-2 hours a day. My sleep has really improved and I have a very steady pleasant emotional feeling, no mood swings leading to comfort foods and no need for afternoon naps. A little constipation was a problem, but now I eat greek yogurt mixed with fresh fruit every day for breakfast. My blood pressure, blood sugar, and high cholesterol are all under control. My doctor says I will not need to take those medications for much longer. The Scale Back program is great. I keep a weight diary to watch how the pounds disappear over time and get the feedback via text and email. A friend just started and has lost 4 pounds in the first week and also has more energy. I am so glad my doctor put me on this instead of those amphetamines that make you stressed and jumpy and sleepless. Thank you.Read More Read Less
