Today I have been taking Contrave for 30 days. I am 5'7" & was 188 lbs. when I began.  In 30 days I lost 10 lbs. virtually effortlessly.  10 lbs. is not a lot of weight, and I have 33 more lbs. to loose to get to a healthy weight, but considering I sit at a desk all day & study at a desk all evening & never exercise I am thrilled.  The first 2 days I took the medication I felt a little "disconnect...

I took Contrave for 3 weeks following directions. After a few days, I started to feel dryness in my mouth which followed by constant strong bitter taste. I decided to stick to it, but by the end of week three late at night I suddenly started to feel a sharp pain in my lower back which quickly started to spread out up my body. I felt a sharp pain in my chest & back, tightness in my chest and shortn...

Been taking now for 7 weeks. Taken as prescribed. By 4th week it was taking 2 am and 2 pm. Mild side effects in beginning: loose stool, gas, slight headache/pressure in head. Bit if a higher heart rate and slight elevated BP. Increased my BP med. Side effects when away fairly quick. 7 weeks in and lost 20lbs. Very happy. 6ft 250lbs in beginning and now 230. Clothes fit much better. I don’t exercise and have desk job. My food cravings are gone. The battle to no eat in evenings and overnight is gone. It does take a conscious effort on my part, but it is much easier to eat small amounts. I will either have 3 small meals per day, no snacks and then rotate skipping breakfast with first meal at noon. Keeping to 1500 cals per day and sometimes lower. Had recent constipation and taking stool softener. Can afford Ozempic or Monjaro. Get 3 months thru contrave website for $330. Very pleased!Read More Read Less

I started Contrive on March 1, 2023. I am 46 yrs old and my starting weight was 221lbs. I went to my Dr to inquire about going back on anti depressants and look into HRT as I had a hysterectomy 6yrs ago and my weight was out of control The first 2 weeks I had a bit of nausea but it went away by the time I started taking 3 pills a day ( week 3). I have noticed a significant difference in how I approach food. I no longer have cravings for my regular go-to's (chips, crackers, bread, dips) and I have no desire to drink wine (and I love wine!!). Not wanting to drink is a bonus as this medication makes me quite dizzy after 1 5oz glass. My biggest side effect currently is the fatigue. Some days I feel like I could sleep all day. I have more dreams than I have ever experienced before. At the beginning of taking the pills I had nightmares. This has also decreased in the last 4 weeks. I have been exercising 50 min (Pelaton 30min followed by Pilates 20min) 2 days on one day off. I also have a puppy who gets walked 30min 2x a day. I have been eating breakfast everyday, which I never did before, usually a small bowl of fruit with yogurt or toast, small lunch and dinner. I have noticed I am fuller and have decreased my portions. As of today (31 days in) I have lost 6lbs. I am happy with the results and will continue to use this medication. Read More Read Less

I'm 55, 5'6", 180 lbs. I've worked a Sedentary job my whole life and not particularly active. Have been taking Contrave for 6 weeks and am down 9 lbs. The perscribed dosage is gradual. 1 pill - week one in the am, week two 1 pill am 1 pill pm, week three 2 am and 1 pm and week four is 2 pills am, 2 pills pm. I had zero side effects until week 3 when I began 2 pills in the am, 1 at night, I was nauseous. Not bad enough to vomit but just felt sick all day. If you've experienced morning sickness, that's what it reminded me of...but it was all day. Talked to my doc and he said to stick with 1 am and 1 pm. The main thing I noticed and happy about is I no longer have sugar cravings. That's huge for me! I've always been one who has to have a sweet morsel after lunch and dinner. Even if it's something as small as a chocolate kiss, I craved it and would obsess until the craving was satisfied. I now also have a significant decrease in my appetite and food just isn't as exciting to me as it was before. Do you ever have those meals where you're full but you keep eating because it tastes so darn good? I don't do that anymore. I'm definitely aware of portion control and to be honest it hasn't been difficult. Being patient is important too. Losing 1-2 lbs a week is healthier than trying to drop a significant amount quickly. I'm looking forward to continued success and overall feeling better about myself. Read More Read Less

My first try with contrave I felt sick, depressed could function I thought maybe tomorrow will be better I tried a second dose it was worse, I stopped and decided that $100 was such a waste to not try again, so I gave it a second try this time I took it in the afternoon hoping that would be better, well sad to say the same side effects, I felt not right, my head was foggy, I felt nauseous and dizzy I had to hurry home and lay down. I lost that evening and woke up still not feeling right thank goodness I was off work or else I would have to call off. I’m disappointed I was hoping this would help in my weight loss, but I could not feel this way one more day, I’ll have to continue trying through exercise and diet because I’m to afraid to feel like that again. Don’t drive while trying it for the first time, I almost had to pull over on the side of the road I felt so dizzy Read More Read Less

If you care anything about your health and wellbeing DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION (caps locked). I experienced stomach pain 10x worse than labor pains and 100% worse than pain related to a punch to the stomach. I had projectile vomiting to the point that I started vomiting bile, I was hospitalized with extremely elevated WBC's. 5 days since my first/last dose, I am still unable to eat more that 1/2 yogurt and or applesauce at a time. I am taking four new medications and was diagnosed with new onset enteritis. The symptoms started within 30 minutes of taking my one and only dose. Please!!!!!!!!!!! Do not take this med. I am a Nurse and did my research before taking. I never imagined that I could be standing at death's door from a single dose.Read More Read Less

I am 70, 6-4 and had ballooned to 250 lbs, a gain of almost 39 lbs. I was on Ozempic and lost 15 lbs the first month, but my bloodwork indicated some kidney issues so they switched me to Contrave. In two months I am back to the 250, still have cravings, always hungry and it’s frustrating. At the end of this month they will probably send me to a weight clinic.

I started Contrave nearly 2 mo ago, I'm about 10lbs down (goal is to lose 30#), on full dose (although I recently reduced evening dose to one pill b/c of the nausea). It's definitely reduced my need to eat all the time, craving for junk food and sweets. I've also switched up my exercise and tracking what i eat. Drinking TONS of water. I will say, I've done that before Contrave and didn't lose much weight, so guessing it's the Contrave helping me now. Side effects - nausea, frequent need to burp, bitter taste in mouth. Some weeks I don't have the nausea, some it's daily. Has made me reconsider continuing, but the weight loss is worth it!!Read More Read Less

This is day 1, I was scared after reading the reviews but I tried it anyway and so far all I feel is tired, I’m assuming it’s because of the depression medication in it,but as long as it goes away I could handle this for a few days, I will report back in a few days hopefully I’ll have good reviews

I'm going into week two and still just taking 1 pill in the morning. I have lost so far 5 pounds. I drink 3 liters of water daily. I don't eat before or after taking my pill in the morning. I workout 3 days a week only taking a 45 minute spin class. I eat 2 healthy meals a day. I don't do breakfast just 1 cup of coffee. I have had no side effects other than waking up several times throughout the night. My energy level is great and I seem to be more focused. I plan to continue on 1 pill for my 2nd week and then increase in week 3. When I eat I'm complete satisfied. However, I do have thoughts about something sweet but is kind of a faded thought in the background. My weight was 2/11 189.3 and as of today 2/ 19 184.3Read More Read Less

I am on saboxon which is used for opioid addiction and pain management. I was told by my family doc and the pharmacist that this would be safe for me to use. They were horribly mistaken!!! I ended up in a ambulance due to being thrown into the worst withdrawals I’ve ever experienced. My stomach was hurting and I had diarrhea, my body was seized and I was having uncontrollable body movements that I was sure was going to break my back. I couldn’t sit, lay down or just walk, I was so confused and unable to settle. My head hurt, my mouth was dry, I couldn’t calm down, lost my breath a few times and started panicking. The sweats and pain were making me want to crawl out of my own body. I was terrified. I had to leave work, and I was so over anxious on the drive home I had thoughts of getting out of my car and living in the snow banks because I could not get home fast enough. When I got home I had a panic attack and my husband called 911. This attack lasted for 8 hours and I only took 1 pill, this was my first day taking it. I will never take it again. I thought I was going to die. I do not recommend if you are in pain meds or anything to come off pain meds, or for pain management if you can’t take opioid meds. This is a dangerous combination of you mix them. Even 1 pill. I’m going to exercise instead.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Contrave for 3 months, & went back for a follow-up with my physician along with a blood work up. I lost 17 lbs, my cholestoral dropped 28 pts, blood pressure dropped 20 pts (high #) , glucose level dropped 15 pts now in a normal range. I am no longer in the morbid obesity range. I was on the borderline of going on cholestoral & pre diabetes medicine. I have been fighting weight loss for last 5+ years, with minimal results. With Contrave my cravings & appetite really decreased, it took me about 30 days to start to see notice-able results, then it has been steady. I was already taking buproprion before being prescribed Contrave, I had no side effects other than weight loss :) I know this is lengthy, it is accurate though.Read More Read Less

I’m on week 2 with this medication. My cravings have definitely been curved. I use to over eat everything in sight. I still get cravings but they are no where near intense like before. I experienced nausea once but it didn’t last long. Maybe an hour or so. I was 187 the first week. I’m currently at the beginning of week 2 and weight 179. I lost 8 pounds in one week BUT I’m also taking lipotropic injections twice a week and watching what I eat. I wouldn’t take contrave alone for weight loss. I would definitely take it to control cravings with extra support like I’m doing now. I’m scheduled to take this medication for 2 1/2 months. I’ll come back and update if anything changes. As of right now, I’m satisfied. Read More Read Less

I started Contrave today (2/8/23), and awhile later, I noticed that my sense of smell has cone back! (I lost my sense of smell when I had covid 2 years ago and until today, I was still having issues with it). I also noticed that I was pretty dizzy and a bit out of it. I haven't had my usual cravings for whatever is in the house which is great! I have felt my mood improve as well, so I'm thinking maybe I was dealing with some depression symptoms. A few hours ago, I did experience an intense urge to lay down and take a nap, which I did. I woke up feeling better than I have in awhile! I haven't had any nausea but have been feeling an overwhelming need to constantly stretch; not sure what that's about but will see if it goes away. I hope this continues to be a positive experience for me; I am wanting to get my weight below 200 pounds so I know I have a way to go. Will continue posting updates.Read More Read Less

I took it for a month to lose weight. I work out 4 days a week and watch what I eat, but can’t lose weight. After a month of taking Contrave, and continuing to exercise, I gained 5 pounds. I was very upset and stopped taking it. I’m in my late 40’s and am considering something else like Hypnosis or Ozempic.

It’s been 3 months and I’ve lost about 20lbs (I’m still just over 210lbs). I’m on the full dose. It’s been amazing not to obsess about food like I have in the past. I would eat all snacks, chocolate, chips, etc if they were in the house. Now I feel full when I’m full rather than over doing it. After the first 2/3 weeks I had really bad lower back pain. I almost stopped but the feeling of being satiated was apparent so I kept going. It went away after about 3 weeks. Into month 2/3 I’m starting to feel like I have restless leg syndrome but in my hands. Drives me crazy. But I’m trying to hold out a bit longer to see if it goes. I’ve already been so the dr about it and it’s common in women 30-39, but says it usually goes. Fingers crossed because I do find it effective. But it looks like it’s different for everyone from reading all the reviews. If I had no side effects, I’d have given it a 5. Read More Read Less

Took my first pill at 7:30am. 30 minutes later I had to wake my husband to watch the kids. I had become really dizzy and this urge to fall asleep. I went to lay down at 8am. Puked three times and didn’t wake up until 4pm. I still felt Nauseous that night. Completely laid me out. Couldn’t function at all, the most I could do was lay in bed. Never had a bad reaction to drugs previously.
