To be fair today is the first day I tried Nurtec and I will definitely be trying it again. I am a chronic migraineur and have been most of me life. I am currently on the CGRP preventative called Emgality. It helps a lot but I still get plenty of breakthrough migraines especially around my cycle. I was so excited to try this since CGRPâ??s have been helpful as preventatives. My experience with this as an abortive is that it started to lessen my pain intensity at around 90 minutes. By 2.5 to 3 hours my migraine does seem to have gone. It took notably longer than my sumatriptan would but I a?m thrilled to have this as an alternative treatment. I also suspect that CGRPs are safer than triptans which I have been on for way too many years. IF the claim that it may help keep this migraine away for 48 hours proves true I will be overjoyed. I recieved no relief whatsoever. It tastes appealing, no horrible aftertaste. Think in terms of the strawberry/berry flavor pez candy. I have had severe migraines since my car wreck in july 2019. Nothing has relieved them. They're the Hemiplegic migraines, light sensitive, sound sensitive, smell sensitive, vomiting, halo vision. I took the Nurtec. Nothing. 15 minutes later, 30 minutes later, 1 hour later, nothing. No relief at all.

I have suffered with migraines since a child...as far back as 5yrs old. Sometimes they would be so bad that I would black out from the pain. Recently my doc has been trying to treat them more aggressively bc they saw white matter on my brain scan and feel it is damage from the migraines. My paternal grandfather had them. My dad had them, My siblings and I all suffer with them. My children now suffer with them. The docs says it is a genetic disorder. She started me a new medication for the migraine called Nurtec, which is classified as a CGRP receptor. CGRP migraine treatment is a new type of treatment used to prevent and treat migraine pain. The medication blocks a protein called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). CGRP may cause inflammation and pain in the nervous system of people who have migraine attacks. I felt the migraine coming on and took one tonight and it melted the pain away almost immediately. In 15 min, the migraine was completely gone; gone and no more side effects! The only thing I felt was a mild upset stomach for about 15 min and then it passed off. Nothing has ever given me this kind relief from a migraine.
