Effexor has worked for me every time. Recently I had another episode of depression after a stressful work situation and not pursuing my own goals and hobbies. As it always happens I had forgotten how horrible depression is and I also had some doubts: would Effexor work again? I was very worried for the first two weeks. I read some negative reviews and thought maybe this time the medication would n...

Unfortunately, my 25 year-old son's depression worsened and he thought he could correct it by taking a second pill. This unfortunately led him to commit suicide December 5, 2007. Please, please be careful and read the information provided.

this medication has helped me feel less depressed in most ways, but has also made me cry for no reason at all..sometimes i will have quick thoughts of doing things I shouldnt do.. but quickly recover... sometimes i get to where I feel impulsive about buying or doing something even though I know I should not. And sometimes the urge is very strong..and sometimes I have gone ahead and proceeded with that thought or action even though another part of me said not to. For the most part.. this medication has improved my mood.. but sometimes it also alters it to someone I am not. That meaning to change my thoughts to unusual at times.. Also,, at times I will completely forget all my meds and will have bad and bizarre dreams at night.. I am also alot more forgetful about other things as well. Read More Read Less

Hot flashes: 75 mg Effexor EQ once a day. I had persistent and frequent hot flashes after menopause. Effexor reduced to more manageable symptoms. If I try to taper dose (every other day), I get a greater number of hot flashes.

Treatment for depression/change of life symptoms. On Effexor XR 75 mg at the time I made a serious suicide attempt. Phycologist advised family doctor to up my dose. Advice not taken. This could have cost me my life. I'm a 54 year old women with a full time job. Married with 4 grown cildren. Total medication effects. I am still on Effexor XR,now 175mg - 225mg and I see a phyciatrist about every 2-3 months. I contact him immediately if I'm spiraling down, Effexor XR works well, but physicians need to advise pts to call immediately if they feel suicidal. Not just children/teenagers. I've been wanting to express this for 8 yrs now,but haven't known a way to get the message out there.Read More Read Less

Dizziness & sleepiness went away after a few weeks. Still have lingering short term memory loss & uncontrollable yawning. Might be the mix of this med with my others.

I've been taking it for a few weeks now and I can't believe the difference in how I feel. The only side effect I've noticed is not feeling hungry hardly at all. Hey, works for me.

It seems to have a serious effect on my short term memory. My ability to cope with high body heat, like temprature or clothing is difficult. Heat stroke could be a problem. My overall ability to cope with my stressfull life has improved. I can talk about stress related issues without crying. The downside is that there are times when I should cry and am not able to. It is impossible for me to fully experience grief or justifiable anger or fear. When my dog had to be put down I needed to cry in order to grieve and was not able to. When my husband treatened my life I was unable to react with anger and so was put into a dangerous situation. But I would not quit taking effexor. It has helped me more than it has caused problems.Read More Read Less

I'm still ramping up my dosage so to speak but so far have noticed a few side effects including: dizziness, abnormal difficulty sleeping, and excessive sweating at night. I have a pretty severe anxiety and panic disorder and have tried Lexapro and Paxil both to there maximum dosages with no success. I will say so far Effexor seems to be more promising than the others and I haven't been needing to take my Xanax near as often.

I'm taking it to haelp me take less migraine medication. But so far it hasn't helped my headsches. What I do like is it keeps me in a good mood and doesn't effect my sex drive like Prozac or Paxill did.
