I am 26 year old woman living in California. I have been on medication for Hypothyroidism for 2 years. For the first year my doctor, as most of the doctors, put me on Synthroid. I did not like this medicine for nothing, because it's three times more expensive than Armour, I was constantly loosing hair (I was lietrally getting bold) and I was very miserable and depressed, and my face was puffy and...

I just started Armour, but I love my coffee in the am so waiting 60 min for coffee isn't fun. I feel tired about 3 hrs after taking it and want to take a nap. I am on the lowest dose of 15mg, but I don't take prescriptions, so my body is very sensitive to any meds, supplements. Does anyone on this site take Armour at night to avoid being tired? I'm only in my first week, so will the tiredness subside when my body is used to the medication?

Armour uses cellulose as a binder. This prevents full assimilation and metabolization. I had heard that they switched to cornstarch (which would be great) but this change has not been published in their description of contents. Erfa (Canadian equivalent) has been my choice for two years--it does use cornstarch. Wake up Armour!!

Became hypothyroid after my hysterectomy... Spent years on synthroid and cytomel in combination. Hair loss, lack of energy plus all the other symptoms. Had a depressed TSH but my body required high dosages. Endocrinologist agreed to try Armour-not a far but has found it worked with some patients. Luckily I was one. On 90 about three years now and want to continue, but I am just now on medicare and Armour is not on their formulary...How do you get it if you are on medicare?

Started out on Synthroid many years ago. Didn't help. Tried generics, no help. I saw an article on Armour Thyroid and discussed it with my doctor. He said he had other patients on it and they were doing well. I started taking it and it was amazing how quickly I felt better. Been on for years and never want to go back.

Within a week of being placed on Armour Thyroid my nail beds reattached, with a few, hair loss slowed way down, after a year, and raising to my optimal dose of 90mg, my evening fatigue was much less. WAS SWITCHED to a generic about 6 months ago and had terrible results which caused me to have to undergo thousands of $$$ of heart tests. Everything was good. Switched back to Armour, and all symptoms went away. Reporting the GENERIC TO THE FDA.

I have been on Armour Thyroid for over 18 years! And glad that I am on it. I started out on Synthroid for 7 years, then it stopped working and switched to the Armour (I was living in a different state then). My current problem is finding a doctor who will prescribe it. My PCP decided to stop prescribing it and the only Endo in town also refuses it. So I'm in search of a new doctor 30miles away just to get this medicine. Almost feel like Armour has been criminalized in the medical community. Depressing to say the least.Read More Read Less

Wish there were more recent posted out here, hopefully I can be of assistance to others looking for answers. Guess when people are doing well they don’t share their experience but are ready to hoot and holler when all is bad. I Just started taking Armour on 7/29 haven't had any side effects yet. I was on generic Synthroid 75mcg for 5 years mixed results my Hypo levels teetered but stayed in range. On 04/2016 doc bumped it up to 88mcg, most recent visit 7/28 all levels were great! Even lost 10lbs but other hypo symptoms persisted. Fatigue brain fog MAJOR mood swings, depression, and the list goes on. Like many other my numbers look good but I know how my body feels and it wasn't agreeing with the Synthroid. So I researched and stumbled upon Armour. Called my PCP and told her I wanted to switch medication, of course an office visit ensued. We had a sit down went over my symptoms, and looked at lab work. She kept pushing for me to stay on the Synthoid and suggesting different classes of antidepressant, nerve pills to stabilize my mood, I wasn’t doing for it. She finally caved and suggested what I wanted all along which was the Armour, had to make it like it was her idea Lol. Reason they don’t suggest it often is because they don’t have a lot of research on it. I opted for the name brand but there is also generic version price wasn’t bad 18 for a 30day supply. It was nothing compared to the 96 I paid for a 90-day supply of Synthroid. I’m entering this journey very optimist, not looking for it to be a magic weight loss pill, a life style changes need to be applied as well with a better diet and exercising. I’m looking for relief from my hypo symptoms, the weight loss would be a bonus! Currently on 30mg= 1/2 grain for 2 weeks then I go up to 60mg= 1 grainRead More Read Less

I started 60 mg over a year ago and had varying doses of Levothyroxine to go with it. Kept having recurring bouts of being tired, confused, frustrated. Since increasing to 90 mg and dropping Levothyroxine I feel 100% better. Like a light switch came on that had been out for years!! So thankful for a good Dr. who knows how to treat this condition.

This is the only medication I know of that treats T3. I take 120 mg, down from 180 mg. My insurance wants me to switch to Sinthroid which doesnt treat T3. This drug has helped immensely. My skin used to bleed from the dry patches and hair was falling out. Also, I was really sluggish. I would rather pay cash than switch to something else. Anyone struggling may want to try the Thyroid Diet book. Has some good info like don't take your thyroid medicine and fiber (if you take fiber) within 4 hours of each other. My skin is still dry but I dont have big raw patches anymore and I am able to function. I haven't had any negative side effects to speak of.Read More Read Less

I was on synthroid for mor years than I can count and was a basket case. I started using desiccated thyroid hormone about 10 years ago and finally felt normal. I take 320 mg per day compounded by my pharmacist with a slow release compound so the hormone releases slowly throughout the day. It's the slow release compound that made all the difference for me.

The past 6 months, the Manufactures changed and the "new" formula created severe muscle pain and became completely ineffective. Thousands of dollars in tests and the Docs couldn't figure it out. I finally found out others had the same issue with Armour and the new manufacture.

I've been on 15mg of this since early April. I do not feel any better. I am having less side effects than when I was on NP Thyroid. The side effects that are bothering me the most are: intolerance to heat and increased sweating. I'm having my TSH done tomorrow and will have to see my dr in 7-10 days.

I just started on this medication one week ago and I don't remember when was the last time in my life I felt this good. I prayed for my healing and for over 8 years I was taking 0.125 Synthroid. My lab test were coming out good but my symptoms were worst every day: fatigue - irritability - wight gain - depression. I hope I can keep feeling this way like before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

Nearly six months on 60mg. Numbers look good. Symptoms remain the same, or worse. I plan to add 1/2 pill this week and monitor myself. I used synthroid years ago, no help. I read to ask for NDT, so I did and Endo said ok to try.

Began taking Armour 90mg. but have been lowered several times since to now 15mg. because of heart palpitations. I would suggest all of you go to Dr. Mercola's website and type in "hypothyroidism" in the search box. Lots of good information. He suggests that you take the medicine twice a day because it does not stay in your system 24 hrs. Maybe that is most people's problem. As far as I understand, this is the only medicine that takes care of your T3 and T4 levels, which gives the most satisfactory results. Read More Read Less

This is the first time in a long time that I felt "correct". It took await to find the correct dosage but what a difference of the synthroid.

I started on 30 mg 5 months ago. Then after seeing my doctor, I was bumped up to 45 mg 3 days a week. I started having withdrawal symptoms the other days of the week, so my doctor bumped me to 45 mg every day. I still don't think my dose is high enough based on how I feel during the day, but it is definitely improved from 6 months ago! There are days that I don't even remember before I started taking the medication. 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with depression. 5 years ago, I couldn't conceive and was told it was due to endometriosis. Looking back, I think ALL of my problems over the past 10 years have been due to underactive thyroid. I am thankful to finally have a doctor who will listen to my symptoms and not just look at the blood work. Read More Read Less

I am having Bio-Identical Hormonal Replacement, and this was prescribed as a part of my therapy. As a younger woman, I started to feel very tired, and for many years I kept telling my doctor, who would always test me and say that I was in "lower normal range." Last year, at the age of 67, I finally found the help that I needed for many years. I feel so wonderful, even words can't express. The pills are tiny, and I take only 1 as soon as I get up each day, thirty min. before my breakfast. My energy is better now, than when I was 30. I have no side effects at all, and remember, I am using other hormonal meds as well, with no problems. I wonder if the "Lab work" standards of high and low are really valid as a guide for our health? And I also wonder why doctors never prescribe this natural medicine? This was the very first medicine used to correct Hypothyroidism back in the 1800's, and it is safe to use. It should be available for everyone, not only to those who have to use special services, at great cost, to get relief. In my opinion, this has been the best improvement in health that I have ever had in all of my life. I certainly hope that, those who experience Low Thyroid like me, will have my same blessing too one day. Love and be happy! Read More Read Less

I took Synthroid for years but often continued to have symptoms. I read up on my condition and asked my doctor to switch me over. He was careful and put me on a fairly low dose before raising it as needed. I was still having some symptoms but switching to a gluten free diet helped alleviate a lot of those remaining issues. The cost went up so I contacted Forrest Pharmaceuticals. They put me in touch with a program to help people with the cost of their medications. I notice several people saying their doctors don't care (I have a good primary care physician but I've seen some seriously bad endocrinologists!) or they don't think they can get better. I didn't think so either, but I have gotten better. I hope that this review helps.Read More Read Less
