Divalproex is the third bipolar med I've tried, and it's the first that doesn't feel like a complete waste of money. I do get some slight tremors after my morning dose, but that's the only side effect I've experienced (my liver function's actually improved since I switched from lithium). There's a definite difference in my mood, too -- I'm far less irritable and edgy on divalproex than I felt on l...

I started depokote on 1-19-10, been on 1 week, can't tell much yet. My co-workers said that they had noticed I had laughted a little more in this on week, but also spoke what was on my mnd whether folks liked it or not. ( I am a southern and we dont do that ) We are reseved. But I still want to sleep alot. Thanks for allowing me to share my experience.

This drug is awful! Along w/the weight gain I wake up in the morning feeling very groggy and tired. This lethargic feeling will last well into the afternoon. ):

I HAVE BEEN ON DEPAKOTE ER 500MG TABLET FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW, MY PHYSICIAN HAS ME TAKING IT AT BEDTIME BECAUSE THEY SAY IT CAN CAUSE DROWSINESS AND/OR DIZZINESS BUT FOR ME IT DOES NOT CAUSE THESE SIDE EFFECTS. I AM ON IT FOR BIPOLOR DEPRESSION AND I CAN TELL SOME DIFFERENCE. I HAVE BEEN ON DEPAKOTE ER 500MG, PROZAC 40MG, CYMBALTA 60MG AND OUT OF THESE 3 MEDICATIONS IT SEEMS LIKE THE PROZAC HELPED THE BEST, I GO BACK TO MY PHYSICIAN IN ONE WEEK AND SHE TOLD ME AT MY LAST APPT. THAT SHE MAY KEEP ME ON THE DEPAKOTE ER AND ALSO ADD A SMALL DOSE OF PROZAC, SO I HOPE IF SHE ADS THE PROZAC TO THE DEPAKOTE ER IT WILL WORK A LITTLE BETTER BUT MAYBE YOU HAVE TO GIVE THIS DRUG (DEPAKOTE ER) A LITTLE MORE TIME TO WORK LIKE YOU HAVE TO DO WITH ALL ANIT-DEPRESSENTS. ALSO I DIDNT LIKE BEING ON THE CYMBALTA BECAUSE WHEN THEY TOOK ME COMPLETLEY OFF OF IT IT GAVE ME FEELINGS OF LIKE ELECTRICAL SHOCKS IN MY BRAIN AND MY PHYSICIAN TOLD ME THAT THAT WILL HAPPEN IF THEY TAKE YOU COMPLETLEY OFF OF CYMBALTA INSTEAD OF WEANING YOU OFF OF IT.Read More Read Less

Treatment works for Migraine, I cannot find a picture of the specific type of Divalproex W 725 which my son is prescribed. It does not worry me but it worries him, he is also a Dimentia pt w/schitzophrenia and believes the Doctors are lying to him because he can't find an image on WebMD It is a Gray Oblong ER Coated pill. I understand that there are Generic Versions but why can I not find my sons specific medicitation here?

I am a long time cluster headache sufferer - episodal not chronic. The last time I had it I was on the drug for about 10 weeks. I had other drugs too as preventive medicines. The combination helped me to get out of the headaches. Even otherwise I would have been out of it. That is the typical time period for my cluster. One side effect ( may be ) is dry skin like psoraisis - it was bad. Now it is getting better. Another effect was trembling of my hands when I tried to pick something like a glass of water. It has gotten better since I am off the drug. Drowsiness was there but it made it difficult to go to sleep.Read More Read Less

I have been on this for over a year. After trying multiple meds that caused me to gain weight, back-and-forth prevention of migraines, and changes in my blood pressure that is already low, I landed on this one. I am to take one to two 500mg at bedtime since it may cause drowsiness. That is a happy change since so many of the other meds caused insomnia. I still have a lot of weight from trying to find the right med, but am glad that this is working for its primary goal--headache free. I am thrilled that it works, but am looking to get off meds so that my body can readjust. Not sure how much this med affects periods, but I have missed two in a year now and I used to be VERY regular! I will be going in for a check-up again to make sure that it isn't affecting anything else.Read More Read Less

With taking this medicine, it has affected my memory and I have tremors. I had only taken it only 1 week. I wasn't warned by my doctor to look for side effects. It's been 1-19-10, since I've been off it and the effects are still there. Who knows what would have become of me if I had taken any longer? I was being treated for migrains.

I have daily migraines + severe auras (alice in wonderland syndrome). Divalproex takes care of much of the syndrome, and I can't miss a single dosage of it without getting a migraine. However, while it may not have worsened my depression, it certainly hasn't helped, so watch yourself.
