This drug has worked fabulously for controlling my daughter's asthma. HOWEVER,it's side effects have been a nightmare. Began taking it after 3rd birthday, would not longer sleep in her bed, up numerous times /night, horrible temper tantrums, weepy, moody/irritable. Everyone thought she was just "going through a phase." Docs assured me could not be because of meds. They increased her dosage when s...

My pediatrician put me on this medicine for my allergy induced asthma. It was very effective and I felt much better physically, however, I experienced nearly all of the side effects that are now reported. After I stopped taking Singulair, the side effects took a very long time to resolve to a more normal state. I do not recommend this product unless no other options are available and the state of your mind is not critical.

I suddenly developed severe asthma at the age of 60. I could not tolerate medication with steroids so was given Singular. It helped somewhat with asthma symptoms but on the third day of taking it I had terrible neurological side effects. My arms and legs were burning and felt like pins and needles. I also could not think clearly. Also, my heart was racing. I stopped taking it and am afraid to take any asthma meds. Still suffering from debilitating asthma.

I had been taking singulair but in the past year, the dosage was increased as I had frequent asthma attacks. I thought mood changes and anxiety was related to adolescence but in the past week, I got weird shaking(tremors) in my body. I also had nightmares during the usage. I discontinued this drug because I started to get horrible dreams about my vernal keratoconjunctivitis which has been cured,it is causing anxiety, restlessness and tremors. I lost my ability to play chess well and I never thought this drug would have these side effects. I stopped using this drug and it is going to take time for me to recover from those adverse side effects.Read More Read Less

I'm 60 year old male, average height/weight, AFTER reading other reviews it appears some folks DON'T realize that MIXING some drugs can cause some of their problems,AUTOMATICALLY psychotropic drugs CAUSE brain chemical imbalance so if you are on them DON'T blame this drug when you are mixing it. I ONLY take this drug once or twice BEFORE I know I am going to be around a CAT that causes SEVERE asthma attacks. It has allowed me to live with a cat IF my wife keeps the house tip top clean.

As per other reviews it works but with serious side effects. Rapid heart beat, serious anxiety, nightmares, depression and thoughts of suicide. If you are having these problems and are taking this drug, know its not you and could be the medication. I am male 50 and can clearly see its coming directly from the Medication. I stopped taking for over a month then tried again. on the second dose two days after the first it all started again. I hopes this helps someone.

A lot of negative reviews are from parents giving this medicine to their children. Montelukast is only for patients 15 and older. I haven't had any side effects. Since starting Singulair (generic) I seldom have to use my inhaler. I used to get bronchitis following every cold I got; no bronchitis since starting Singulair. Although I still get upper respiratory allergy symptoms, Singulair is great for managing chest congestion (excess bronchial mucus and inflammation). I feel so much better and breathe so much easier on Singulair. Bear in mind that many of the possible "side effects" of Singulair--e.g., depression, anxiety, strange dreams, etc.--are actually quite common in the general population. Talk to your doctor and assess your other risk factors (family history, life stress, other medicines, med interactions) before blaming this medicine. I see a lot of reviews where people said Singulair essentially made them go "crazy" or have bizarre symptoms, and given my positive experience of over a year I find this very hard to believe. As far as generic vs. brand name goes, I have always been on generic and my boyfriend, who was previously on brand name, switched to generic. He hasn't noticed any difference. Maybe the difference people claim to notice depends on where they get their prescription filled, or maybe it's just the power of suggestion.Read More Read Less

Worst experience of my life, took it for bad allerigies ended up with night terrors thoughts of hurting myself, others and even my dog. I was able to separate the thoughts from who I actually am but its extremely taxing. Side affects can last 4-6 weeks. I'm in my 5th week now things are getting better. I best advice for someone going through this is find a person you can trust that you can call 24/7 and can tell them everything. Thankfully I'm 25 and my mother is still around, I had moments when she literally had to tell me to take the anxiety meds I was given to calm me during the whole process. Highly recommend seeing a behavior doctor because this is something your family doctor or even ER doctor can not handle properly. If ou aren't religous now would be a good time to be. If you reading this while going through the side affects it WILL get better I know it seems like a long road but you can make it.Read More Read Less

It seemed to work for awhile, not so much after six months. Switching back to much more expensive Singulair to see if that will work again.

My twins were given this at about age 8 or 9 at the time .This was around the time this medication was new to the market. After 2 weeks I started noticing stretch marks on the upper arms and the lower abdomen they got worse.I told the doctor I thought it was the medication he called the manufacturer back then and they told him they did not have that on their list of side effects. after another few weeks the marks were getting really nasty I told the doc I was taking them off and the stretch marks stopped spreading but left the boys with permanently marks on their skin.I saw a photo a short time back of someone with cushing syndrome those marks looked exactly like what my kids had usually it is caused by steroids but my kids were not on steroids at the time .Read More Read Less

I was taking this daily, few years back and would get extremely sleepy and depressed, although cleared symptoms my sister who is approx. 8 years older went into a coma last year for 5 days and they suspect it was singulair, I now only take this as needed which my pulmonary specialist never told me I could do. I had to consistently tell him of side affects and he finally said as needed, which works it seems effectively.

I have had life-long allergic asthma. A couple of years ago, I moved to a state where the pollen count is very high and started having to use my rescue inhaler daily. My doctor put me on montelukast and no more asthma. I am so grateful! I have had no noticeable side effects, in over a year. This is a wonder drug, in my opinion, and one I plan to stay on.

My 4 and half year old son was prescribed with Singular (Montelukast sod) 4 mg for his cough and allergic symptoms. Before we start this medicine, his allergy was cared by other medicine. However, Dr wanted him to put on this singular drug for a month to make sure allergy does not reoccur. Within 1st day of using this singular drug my sons cough started with sore throat. 2nd day, he had stuffy nose with sinusitis and more coughing. The third night was horrible. He had bad night terror. Every 10 minutes he was waking up screaming. As it was happening, i was searching on review of singulair and immediately suspect it was caused by singulair side effect. We called Dr, explained him about the side effect and the internet reviews. He then told us to stop taking this drug further. We will see how his symptom will be in next day or two. We will update on this.Read More Read Less

Young adult, healthy, happy, until this drug. Was on this drug for 2 1/2 months. First month had terrible insomnia. Second month started psychological problems, felt out of body, depression, fatigue, nightmares. After going off the drug it seemed as though the symptoms got worse. I have been off it for two months now and see slight improvement in fatigue, no nightmares, still feel pretty out of it though. Anyone know how long it takes to recover?

My 7 year old son was on this medication for eight months and after we took him off due to anxiety, panic attacks, anger , mood swings he said six months later " I finally feel like myself again ". We didn't know that this drug was making him feel weird as he couldn't express his feelings. It finally came to a head when we discovered he was being bullied at school as he said " he felt weird and couldn't mix with kids". Anyway finally after 10 months of working with his anxiety etc we have our beloved, happy go lucky boy back. I cringe anytime someone says there children are on this drug.Read More Read Less

I was put on this tablet a couple of years ago for chronic asthma, I take 10mg tablets. I find it helps and I dread to think what I'd be like without it. I had no side-effects and never have done. This tablet would be recommended by me, because since taking it, I've been able to walk more and stairs are less of an issue. I still have problems, yes, and I still have shortness of breath and coughing after walking up stairs, etc, but it's much less severe and the duration of it is shorter since taking this tablet, but remember, tablets are a crutch to lean on, not a cure. Generally, I recommend this tablet.Read More Read Less

I can see the difference as far as it helping my allergic asthma, however, I have been seriously depressed at angry at everything. This is just not me at all. I never would have thought it was Singulair until I came on here and started reading these reviews. I have not been able to sleep well at all. Also having palpitations. Done with this!

I've been taking this drug since I was 17..I'm 26 now. I used to have SEVERE seasonal allergies and the only thing that would work would be benadryl but I couldn't take that during the day due to drowsiness. My doctor suggested this and it was like a life saver for my allergies. The only side effects I have noticed is every now and then I'll have some pretty strange/vivid dreams. I also have to say is that some days my allergies are still bad but nothing like how they used to be. I also haven't had to use my inhaler in over a year.Read More Read Less

My daughter started having severe seasonal allergies at 4months old. It wasn't until she was a year old that someone finally gave us this medication...and it worked! She could breath, no more antibiotics, no double or tripling allergy meds. Just one dose and she was healthy. She takes it from February through sept. The first year it was awesome, this season she is restless, has a hard time falling asleep and wakes in the night and now she sleep walking. She sleeps through the night approx. once a month. She's exhausted, we're exhausted! One more months and she is done for the year - I am hoping to see a drastic change in her sleep habits. I am terrified since it is the only thing that has worked, but if we see improvement (if she goes back to regular sleep) we will have to figure out something new next year :(Read More Read Less
