45 year old male...BP and cholesterol issues...My fault, not genetic...6'2" 265 pounds...Drug worked great! high-good cholesterol, low-bad cholesterol-average 130's...Wanna know why I stopped taking statins? No.1 reason-never had inflammation anywhere. Right metatarsal portion of my right foot would ache each morning until it was used for about 15 minutes of movement from no injury what so ever....

Started taking 1 1/2 years ago. Switched doctors two weeks ago. Told her severe muscle pain everywhere, especially my right arm and right leg. Have been going to the chiropractor and just recently three trips to acupunture. The new doctor immediately told me to stop. I was on 10mg. I also have had itching on arms and legs. Never put it all together. Been two weeks and seems to be subsiding. Never considered it was pravastatin.

I have had three heart attacks I was put on Crestor, lived in hell for years, then they changed to another which didn't work good enough, so my Dr mixed it with Lipitor within a few days I had retained 20 lbs of fluid, and had problems breathing , said my prayers every night hoping I would wake up, then I decided I would rather have a heart attack then to live like this, within a week I was feeling much better But not good enough for the Dr. He put me on another for 30 days this drug, I am bloated to almost twice my size, tightness in my chest, full of gas, heartburn, pain in lower stern, constipated, tired all day, and I feel like I have the flu, you guessed it I'm off that drug to. Really tired of being used. So I am off all stains from now on.Read More Read Less

After only 10 days on a low dose, I felt like I had a low-grade case of the flu and began to experience shortness of breath even when I was not exerting myself. Within a few more days, so much muscle pain I could not turn over in bed without pain. Discontinued the drug and muscle pain began to improve within 48 hours. It took about 10 days for the shortness of breath to resolve.

Took this medication for a week. Started feeling weakness and pain in my arm. Thought I was having a heart attack. My fingers have also went numb. Have not taken for two days and the numbness is leaving, but still there. My chest is also heavy. Like others, I am going to try other alternatives, like exercise, diet and Niacin.

I have been taking this medicine for over 2 years. It has definitely improved my numbers…BUT I have developed sever knee and hip joint pain. It took about a year on this medicine for it to develop. I am only 42 and I feel like a really old person who has major difficulty moving around like a normal person does. I think its this medicine. At first I blamed it on me getting older and didn't think to look at the side effects of the medicine. I want to go off this medicine (I know my Dr. will have a fit because I told him this was the last statin I would try to take) I want to see if my joint pains go away in a few months. This was the best statin I ever took..as it took a long time for me to develop side effects. After awhile, non-normal symptoms become normal. Pay attention to your body. If everyone cut out processed foods and sugar we wouldn't need these things. Good luck to all.Read More Read Less

Right metatarsal portion of my right foot would ache each morning until it was used for about 15 minutes of movement from no injury what so ever. Eye sight became blurry in one eye. Reading glasses made it 100% better. Went to eye doctor, said it was a slight astigmatism. Guess what? After two months of not taking the drug I no longer have an astigmatism, no pain at all. I am down to 240 pounds and my cholesterol is at 155 now. Still manageable...Easier to lose weight without the drug and a better lifestyle. BP is also down but thats a different drug...I am going to eventually ween myself off that too once I get down to 215-220 on the weight. I feel great. I mentally prepared myself by telling myself that I lived back in the 1950's before they had all these drugs available and the only way to cure me is by taking better care of number one! Don't rely on prescription drugs if one can stop being a typical American and live correctly. I am a pilot for a fortune 100 company. All I used to do is eat large on the road - never exercise for a job that has zero cardio built into it as well as booze with the boys. I can still have fun working without all that excess. Stop the madness! Drugs suck!Read More Read Less

I've been on pravastatin for about 6 months and I've had right shoulder joint tension/pain without really considering its origin. I assumed it was stress related and I'd use a pressure point self massage area of the joint area tendons/ligaments, which provided pain relief. I also had ligament tendon tightness in the right forearm area as well and would use a pressure point/massage to relieve the tenderness/pain. And then several days ago I began experiencing moderate rib cage discomfort on the right side. The pain eventually moved to my middle right backside and I found an LMT to release the stressed muscles and improve a range of motion that was limited due to the pain I was experiencing. I located a fantastic LMT for a massage and I also incorporated a regimen of hamstring stretches to loosen the back muscle. My symptoms were not from injury and were mysterious in origin until I checked into medication side effects here on WebMD and woolah! After seeing all of the comments regarding muscle joint pain and side effects of pravastatin my next move is to tell my Dr I'm discontinuing usage. Thank God for WebMD! Read More Read Less

Well first off I want to thank everyone that took the time to write a review on this Drug and form what I have read so far in looks like a nightmare for a large majority. My doctor just prescribed this for me because I am diabetic and he tells me that they recommend that I be 30 to 40 points lower then I am because of it. But I haven’t started it yet so I think first thing Monday morning I am calling his office and telling him what I read here and about the terrible side effects. I might also add, “thanks for the warning.” Again thank you everyone! Read More Read Less

I have been on this med for 6 weeks. Having severe pain in arm and do not have much energy. Sometimes it is hard to walk for any length of time due to getting extremely tired. Trouble focusing eyes at times. Mood changes. Will quit this and never take any statins again. This is the third one my Dr. had tried.
