I have used Boniva for three months and so far so good. I tried Actanol and Fosamex with side effects of joint and chest pains. I hope this continues to work for me.

One pill was more than enough to decide that the side effects were not worth the cure, if that cure actually materializes! After taking one pill my entire body ached, specially my legs, arms and fingers.

I don't care if this helps bone mass. I am a mess! Month 1 felt like I was hit by a truck. Horrible flu like all over excruciating pain. Month 2 and 3 better. This month went to the hospital with disfiguring facial and neck swelling. Was given an epi pen in case of suffocation !!! Never again.

Have been on this medication for years. Developed pain in upper rt. thigh for several months. Stumped toe on coffee table leg-causing severe femur fracture-leading to major surgery. Orthopedic surgeon stated it was caused from taking the Boniva. Isn't it about time this drug company should pay for all the pain and suffering it has caused????

I am extremely pissed that my doctor prescribed this medicine to me. I've been on it for 9 months and ever since, I've had stomach issues and a stiff and painful neck. I've been to all sorts of doctors and spent thousands of dollars trying to figure out what was wrong with me. No one seems to know! All my x-rays and blood tests are normal. I asked my primary doctor if the medicine could be the root of the problem. Her answer was "no" you need to keep taking it. Finally, I dug a little further (the same day I took another dose of my month Boniva) and realized that YES it is the medicine. I would stay far away from this medicine. I can't begin to tell you how mad I am. My quality of life for the past 7 months has been hell. I hope my body returns to normal after stopping Boniva. Read More Read Less

After taking Boniva for over 5 years, I developed bilateral femur fractures with surgical repair. DEXA scores look better because old bone is kept and new bone cannot form. Bone becomes brittle and breaks. The side effects of this medication are devastating.

I am following up with my 8/22/2014 entry. I appears that the Boniva was very likely the cause of my leg and hand swelling symptoms, as per the physician who prescribed it for me. I have been off the medication since June, and no longer have problems with feet and hand swelling. I was officially diagnosed with severe carpal tunnel syndrome. All other lab testing has come back normal. Needless to say, medications have side effects, some of which may not be commonly noted yet are nonetheless valid.Read More Read Less

I took my first dose of monthly Boniva on March 29, 2014. 3 weeks later I noticed what felt like carpal tunnel symptoms with tingling fingers and slight tightness in my hands. On April 29 I took the second dose, not thinking that the symptoms could be caused the new medication. During May, the hand symptoms continued to increase. On May 29th I took my 3rd (and last) dose and in mid June, my feet and legs were very swollen, and my hands/fingers, also swollen continued to ache and tingle. I called my MD and he said "Hold" the med and have the symptoms checked out (I was out of town on extended vacation which ultimately was shortened due to the medical issues). I am back home and seeking medical evaluations to try and discern what is wrong. Essentially, the problems started soon after I began taking oral Ibandronate Sodium, and I am still having hand problems. I also notice tightness/arthritis type sensations in my feet. My feet/leg swelling subsided with 7 days of AC Carbamide (osmotic diuretic), but my ankles are not completely back to normal. I also find it more difficult to squat to do gardening etc. I have had several blood tests, and am awaiting next steps. It's pretty scary experiencing bodily changes which cause my legs/ankles to go (to quote my husband) from what looked like 25 year old's to an 80+ year old's (no offense intended to the older population reading this). I can't say with 100% certainty that the Ibandronate caused these symptoms, but it's highly suspect in my opinion.Read More Read Less

Took 1st dose. 10-12 hours later pain in chest and shoulders with chills. 24-26 hours later severe pain from jaw to hips. Crippling joint and muscle pain, needed help to get up from sitting or laying position. 36 hours later I am still in bed needing help to get up. Never again. This should be off the market.

I just took my first dosage this past Sunday 6/29/14, I have had many side effects, the one that concerns me the most is the swollen glands in my neck, they are a bit scary. I am not a person who likes taking drugs of any kind, but my doctor, whom I trust and told me to try it, so here I am trying it and don't like feeling they way I am for the past 3 days. Such as pain, swelling in my neck, nausea, diarhea, chills, feeling tired, looking at food and don't want to eat it in fear I will bring it up. No drug is worth it..I work and don't even feel like going each day. I have arthritis in both my hands, and they really hurt the first day I took it. I didn't feel this way before taking this medication, and I won't be taking it again. Especially after reading all the reviews from people that have been on it for some time. I will stick to taking Calcium and D3 and excerise.Read More Read Less

This drug gave me severe jaw pain. I had great difficulty swallowing. I went to the emergency room because of chest pain that I thought was a heart attack. I had shooting pains all through my body.My Dr. said it had nothing to do with the drug and to keep on taking it. I twisted my leg a little bit while walking and ended up with a blood clot(DVT).I stopped taking it 3 years ago. I am slowly getting better with the shooting pains and difficulty swallowing easing up over the years. I believe it also messed up my digestion which is slowly getting betterRead More Read Less
