I take Amitiza twice a day. It helps me have 4 to 5 bowel movements a week. I was only going once a week before and the straining was terrible. I have a predictable movement instead of the explosive bowel movements I get with linzess or laxatives.

I have been on this medication for one week. It has relieved my chronic constipation but replaced it with loose stools bordering on diarrhea. My doctor prescribed taking the drug 2x daily. However, this produced very, loose stools, painful gas and stomach discomfort. I reduced the dosage to 1x daily and noticed some improvement. Since reducing the dosage, I have less gas, my stools are more fi...

I have had type 1 diabetes for 47 years. Two years ago I started not being able to have a bowel movement without a colenoscopy prep medication. I am on Linzess and that helps the colon prep work. I have been on this new med for just two full days but nausea, head ached, thirst, insomnia and a dark black mood has descended on me. I think I will go off today.

It was great at first. But now I have been suffering with different side effects. The body and joint pain. Not any regular bowel movements. Dull headache daily. Bloating and heaviness in my chest. Bad dreams and restless sleep. I am probably going to stop taking this medication. And call my doctor again.

I had to take additional OTC medication while on this medicine, which is expensive. I also had bad heartburn.

I was chronically constipated for about 3 months. I was in so much pain, severe bloating and the list could go on. My doctor prescribed AMITIZA to me, 24mg twice a day. I am feeling so much better. My bloating has decreased significantly. The only downside is, I experience severe nausea and vomiting (which is gone now), gas (still experiencing ) and loose stools (still experiencing). My doctor warned me about these side effects. Honestly, I was in so much pain that my relief out weighs the side effects in my opinion.Read More Read Less

It took a few days for it to start working but now I am having BM every 2-3 days. No more straining or hard stools. Have not really experienced any side effects. It has been life changing.

The medication worked for me, I have OIC very badly, I have to take Norco because of 2 past back fusions. The AMitiza worked, made me go every morning, however the abdominal pain was horrible. I would wake up in the night, with cold sweats and violent stomache pains, like contractions. unfortunately I had to stop taking the medication.

I'm a 45 yr old female who is totally disabled due to a car accident that has left me with multiple surgeries and spinal cord nerve damage. Because of the extreme pain I'm constantly in, I must take several different opiods in combination to control the amount of pain I have. I have tried everything OTC with little to no help with the Cronic Opiod Induced Constipation. I have already had one blockage in my bowel about two yrs. ago. My Dr. prescribed Amitiza and after a $50 co-pay I took one pill at night for four days. Nothing. They increased the dosage to two pills after three days nothing. I then went to the maximum dosage after four days still NOTHING. After ten days of no bowel movements the Dr. told me to stop taking this medication as it did not work for me. Read More Read Less

You can get the best medical advice from nurses. A nurse told me several yrs ago many meds will stop working as well and if you stop taking and retake again at a later date it will be more effective. I find that true with this drug if I take all the time quits working, but stop start method works like a charm.

Useless medication. My dosage was increased until I was taking 24 mg three times per day which is the max dose per manufacturer. Even at this dose the med was not effective. I would require augmentation with an OTC lax after 4-7 days with no BM. So the medication was completely and a waste of time and money. Total time on this med with all the increases was about 5 months with 3.5 months at the max dose.

I was on Linzess for IBS-C but not satisfied with how it was working. Amitiza has worked perfectly for me, but the sleeepness and "noodly-ness" that I experience after taking it is giving me problems. There's just no winning with IBS-C.

The samples worked great with only one capsule taken twice a day. Filled the prescription and after paying $155 for my 20% copay, Amatiza is not working, despite taking as many as six capules a day. Something has to be wrong with this batch. Plan to call my doctor and pharmacist to discuss situation.

I have had chronic IBS my whole life due to too much intestines that as a child I did not have removed when Doctor suggested it. Going days to almost a week with out a BM my whole life and I was active, ate healthy living on lettuce and apples (the only thing that some what helped) Now disabled and no exercise and all the opiates, I was miserable. This drug is the best thing for me and the side effects I can live with compared to feeling sick from my body literally poisoning me. I have noticed, feeling like a noodle for hours after it, and some major sweats at times. So far that is it after a week of 2 pills a day. This is one of those medications that you def. have to weigh the odds. I go for taking it and yesterday took only one pill and the sweating is better and the pill is still working.Read More Read Less

While the medicine did what it is supposed to do, I had a severe reaction to it. The side-effects mentioned the possibility of "chest tightness" & that is what happened. I was on the medicine for3 days and each day the symptom got worse. Even after quitting, the sensation that I had severe chest congestion remained. I have been off of it for over 3 weeks now and still have that sensation when taking a deep breath or exercising. I think this drug caused some permanent damage to my lungs.

I have had chronic severe constipation since I was a child. Dr. put me on this a week ago and told me I may need to take Miralax the first 2-3 days until the Amitiza began to work. NOTHING...I cannot sleep and even with the daily Miralax it is not working (24mcg dose twice daily). I am totally frustrated and after reading these reviews am quite sure the side effects and cost are not worth it.
