I have been taking this medication for about ten years. In the beginning, it took about a year of trying varying doses to get to the dose that stablized my thyroid. I chose to stay on the med rather than radiation or surgery, so I wouldn't have to take tyroid replacement and experience hypothyroid symptoms. I no longer experience symptoms of hyperthyroid while taking only 5mg once a day and have m...

I have Graves Disease. The pill is very bitter. My Endocrinologist will only let me take for 6 months then he says I have to do the radioactive iodine. Says the side effects are to great to take long term. I have only been on it for a week with no problems so far. I just with there were better choices for this disease. I'm only 32 and have 3 small kids so I hate the thought of radioactive iodine.

Doctor put me on this atrocious chemical and it completely destroyed my ability to maintain or lose weight. A few weeks of this "medication" and I had gained 35 lbs. I continue to gain even though I'm off of it. Even at 600 calories per day, I still gain weight. Have a lot more health problems than ever due to the sudden weight gain. Do not take this drug even if your doctor tells you to! It destroys your whole endocrine system.

Hair loss, weight gain, sleeplessness, blurry vision, skin problems, constantly tired. Dr. just continues to tell me that my levels are good and no reason to change anything. Looking for a natural healthcare physician specializing in endocrinology. Pills have turned me into a total wreck.

When I first started taking it I was taking 5mg in the morning and night, I gained weight, and couldn't sleep, but it helped my thyroid gland to get back on track, it's been 9 months and I'm taking the meds once a day 10mg. I've lost 50lbs and feel great. I changed my diet and I exercise, am sleeping through the night again. The only problem am having now is blurred vision and I need my glasses more than before. Am just holding on until my doctor recommends me to take the iodine tablet. He said it's to risky at my age so he wants me to wait until I already went through menopause.Read More Read Less

I have been on methimazole for three years and broken in out in a full body rash three times. My thyroid function is still slightly high, but I am finally going into remission.

I was diagnosed with a hyperthyroid a year ago. I was put on methimazole, and my blood levels are now within a normal range. I have had no side effects at all.

I, against my better judgement, and at the md's urging, took one freaking pill--5 mgs. this AM (a year ago I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid--put on meds--lost 31 pounds (to 86) got bad bronchitis and then told I had hyperthyroid! So, one pill--4 hours later -- in the supermarket-- had a few small seizures and hallucinations--called the doc (it's her day off) and said no more--I'm done. They just shove meds at us and don't have a clue--a wonder some of us aren't worse off.

I was prescribed Methaimazole 10 mg 3 X day for an overactive Thyroid. I took the medication for exactly two weeks and broke out in Hives. I stopped the medication and I plan to visit the endocrinologist next week to see what my options are.

After 3 weeks of being on Methimazole, my lab results were almost within normal limits. After one month, the only side effects I have had are itching - hands, feet, scalp, & neck, mostly.

I was on this medication for almost 1 month when I had an allergic reaction to it. Broke out in hives and very bad itching. It did put my blood levels back to normal. I can not take beta blockers because my blood pressure is on the low side. usually 102/65. Will have more blood work next week to see if I need the radioactive iodine. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Be carefully monitored when starting this drug. I was overdosed, became hypothermic and super loopy.
